I recieved a free digital edition in exchange for an honest review. All opinions stated are my own and given freely.

This wasn't quite what I expected, the art was amazing but it was hard to read since there was no discernable directions...

Lovely tone, not overly bright but still feels fresh and gentle and warm like food bread.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Days Of Sugar And Spice is such a fun book to read with beautifully detailed illustrations. This book contains so many positive messages throughout the story and I just love it so much!

The illustrations and the story were so good that it just made me want to continue reading. The colours, scenes, characters and settings brought this book so much to life. Everything was so detailed and absolutely beautiful.

At first, Rose was selfish and self absorbed but as certain events occured to her, she has changed to be better for her own sake and also for the sake of others around her. As for the other characters, Gael is just like any other fictional character's significant other. Sweet, charming and very much in love.

Even for the secondary and side characters, everyone was so unique, different and they brought the story into life even more. My favourite character of all is definitely Mamonde. She is just hilarious, with her facial expressions and how the writer and illustrator would describe her after something happened to her from tasting good food and her reactions to certain things.

There were times this book got deep and emotional as Rose found out the reason why her parents split up. Yet, even after running away, she belongs with the bakery and the people surrounding it. This book were also about delicious french food, especially pastry and it made me want to stroll along the french countryside, taking in the ambience while eating a croissant.

This book is definitely one of my favourite graphic novels out there. It was just perfect and it was everything I never knew I needed in a book and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for more amazing reads like this.

Going into this I thought this was going to be a cute story about a woman inheriting her father's bakery and while it was that, it was so much more. There is a ton of depth to what Rose goes through during the story and what she realizes about her past and present. It's really a story of her evolving and finding herself, as well as discovering what her place in life in and what makes her truly happy.

At first I was a little worried that the subtle color palette and art style, but it fit the story and setting perfectly. It made the small village come to life and the characters were so whimsical. Each of them had individual identities that complimented each other.

This graphic novel was a short and sweet little story about bitter-hearted Rose and her foray into the baking world. She takes a break from her graphic design in order to take care of affairs following her estranged father's death, immersing herself into the little town where his baking legacy struggles in the face of capitalist greed.

For what it was, I appreciate this graphic novel. I know that it is difficult to pace something that is so short while still including major plot points, but I don't think this one was very subtle. There were drawn-out scenes about minor details, but the character development was rushed and awkward. Many of the pages were dedicated to an unrelated talking cat side-story, which I think was cute but unnecessary.

I appreciated the beautiful art that accompanied this story, but I'm not completely sure that the watercolor style worked for the graphic novel. It was a bit hard to find structure without any panels, and the speech bubbles could be confusing at times. Unfortunately, the "inner thoughts" font choice was horrendously illegible, making it difficult to read. The aesthetic was warm and cozy, but I don't think it served the story correctly.

The actual bakery element was my favorite part. I'm a sucker for anything from The Great British Baking Show to Food Wars, so it was a lot of fun seeing Rose experiment with different techniques and recipes. The illustrations of the food looked incredibly appetizing.

Overall, this was a cute, quick pick-me-up filled with feel-good themes. I realize that my review probably sounded pretty picky, but I really did enjoy this graphic novel. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone with a penchant for small towns and sweet treats.

This was such a fast read! A story about a girl who inherents her estranged father's bakery. The concept of the story is forgiveness and finding happiness which I really liked. I also really liked the art. It was so soothing and made me want to see more of it. The story was a sweet and fun romance and i really liked the characters even though we didn't have much time to get to know them. The parts with the cats were so cute and funny. I loved them. Overall a fun read!
I'll recommendations it to anyone who is looking for a sweet and fun romance.
Thank you to netgalley for this ARC.

It was a lovely story about family, relationships and accepting people and new feelings in your life. I liked how it revolved around a concept of "broken" family and relationships only to develop and show later how it's all relative (no pun intended).
I do wish there were more details and focus on the food – but that's a personal preference for books and comics that involve food. There are enough elements that support the idea of the bakery and how the MC and her father connected through it.

It was fun and sweet read, with a lovely artwork. I didn't connect much with the story and it wasn't personally memorable, and although it has over 150 pages I found the story both slow where it didn't need to be and a bit hastened in the crucial moments; therefore I'm giving it 3 stars.

What a cute and quick read!
The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous (the food had me salivating!) and I loved the message of the story - forgiveness.
My only gripe was the choice of font at times, as the use of cursive made it a little more difficult to read.

Overall it was an enjoyable graphic novel.
Many thanks to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for sending me a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

This was a very quick read! But I enjoyed it a lot. About a girl with an estranged father who passes away and leaves her with his bakery. It is more about forgiveness. The story was great! I liked the graphics. The only thing that I hated was the difficult to read font choices. The font was in cursive and very light. Overall, a great graphic novel.
I enjoyed all the characters in the novel. I think this is a great book overall and would recommend it to friends.

I adore the cover of this book, it reminds me of Christmas. The story was okay but I think I enjoyed the illustrations the most. I also liked the trips back in time and the use of the fonts. Visually, it's very appealing.

A nice trip to France to be with Rose as she inherits her father's bakery while trying to come to grips with her past. The characters are believeable and well portrayed in this story which flows so well. The pages written in cursive may be a little difficult for some to read, but well worth the struggle. I would recommend this for high school age and above since it deals with some adult subject matter. I feel as if I can smell delicious breads and pasteries baking.

[ I was sent a copy of this comic on Netgalley in return for an honest review.]

'Days of Sugar and Spice' follows the main character, Rose, as she returns to her childhood village, Klervi, to inherit her father's precious bakery.

I absolutely loved this comic! Not only was the artwork adorable, but the whole story and concept of a village bakery gave me such wintery/Christmas vibes that you couldn't help but feel cozy whilst reading it. It's seriously perfect for the season✨

I enjoyed seeing Rose slowly warm up to people in the village and I thought the transitions between her father in the past and her in present day were really sweet. The ending honestly made me tear up.

Despite it only being a short comic, so many things happen and the story is really well executed in my opinion. I feel so attached to these characters now and I don't want to leave them! I would seriously love to see more works by the authors.

The perfect "feel good" comic for the wintery season.

This was super duper cute! I loved the art style and my only complaint is that some of the cursive was difficult to read in the format I had. The ending was so cute and I almost cried at the last page!

I loved the art: it has a simple style done like with watercolors, and maybe it is. It's a refreshing change in this day when graphic novels are done in modernistic way.

The story is sad, warm and realistic. It's a story about family, love, broken homes and hearts. About finding yourself in unexpected places.
I would definitely recommend reading it but I'm not giving more than 3.5 stars because it was too sweet and too simple for me.

Absolutely one of my favorite books that I have read this year but it's interesting characters and adorable plot. This was a real winner.

This was an incredibly sweet, heart-warming story about a girl who inherits her fathers bakery after he passes away, and travels back to her childhood home, delving up a past she had tried her best to forget.

The book deals with a lot of tough subjects and handles them with care. In dredging up memories of her childhood, our main character ends up on a journey of self-discovery almost. I wasn't expecting to be as touched by this as I was, but some of the reveals in the latter half really tugged at my heart strings.

I'd love to read more like this.

A massive thank you to Netgalley and the publisher who kindly provided a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this sweet graphic novel which follows a woman who inherits a bakery when her estranged father dies. The characters are relatable and likeable. The story flows well and the village pets are adorable.

There is a lot of emotional storyline packed into this graphic novel and I'm excited to read more from this author.

I LOVED this graphic novel! I could totally do with more of Rose and Gael's stories. I love stories set in bakeries or bake shops. I really enjoyed the illustrations in this one too and how Rose really found herself when she became apart of Brav Eo.
Lovely lovely read!

Days of Sugar and Spice by Loic Clement, 145 pages. GRAPHIC NOVEL
Europe Comics, 2019. $12.
Language: PG (3 swears, 0 “f”); Mature Content: PG13; Violence: G
BUYING ADVISORY: HS - OPTIONAL
AUDIENCE APPEAL: AVERAGE
In her late 20s, Rose’s father dies, forcing her to return to her childhood village for her inheritance: his bakery. Rose plans on spending as little time there as possible, but she misses her bus back to Paris. By spending a little time with her aunt and an old childhood friend, Rose uncovers secrets that will change her life forever.
The illustrations by Anne Montel are the best part of this book; I was awed by her use of watercolor, and the untraditional lack of distinct panels was easier to get used to than I expected. Rose’s story has good messages about forgiveness and chasing your dreams, but I feel that other stories have told it better. And I did not appreciate the lewd comic relief of the cats -- scenes that were completely unnecessary.

Review to come tomorrow on blog/Goodreads.

I received this graphic novel from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

Let's see if I can write a review for this one, often while reading words will start to form in my head and make a bit of a preliminary review.. however now? Not so much.

This is a beautifully written and illustrated graphic novel about a woman who inherits her father's bakery. However she doesn't have the fondest memories of him as he kicked her and her mom out when she was a kid. That does sound pretty bad, right? Not really something you want to constantly remember. And so we see her go between wanting to stay (because of her auntie, because of a man she has known since childhood (but hasn't seen in 20 years), because she likes baking) and wanting to go (to her friends, to her apartment, to her life). It was quite interesting to see her try to decide, and I also loved seeing what she did to the bakery. She didn't just make it a bakery but she made it something more. She added something that the town so desperately needed. She had some great ideas. The town is dying and she is seeing it as a mission to help out.

She finds a diary, and later on in the book gets the missing pages from her auntie... including some very big truths about her mom and her dad. She finds out that maybe it wasn't only her dad's fault. She finds out that her mom wasn't having any clean hands in the matter at all. And then there is a truth about herself. Something that had me shocked.

I loved how with each page we got to know the MC and the village more and more. And the ending was just magnificent and had me crying a bit.

I wasn't a fan of the kitties. It seemed silly and distracted from the story.

Like with many graphic novels or comics the text was hard to read and at times I just had to stop reading to do something else. My eyes just don't like reading on a pc, and it would help if Netgalley/publishers made sure that their books are good to read. It shouldn't be too hard.

Sorry for the chaotic review, my eyes are burning and I really need to read a non-computer book or just rest my eyes a bit.

I would recommend this book to everyone. I am sure it will be loved by many. It is about loss, about finding truths and how to handle them, finding love, finding a place to belong, and more. The art is lovely, and I was a big fan of it.
