I read this such a long time ago and forgot to submit my feedback at the time.
This story about holiday cottages in Cornwall is a perfect beach read. It follows a variety of people that go to stay in the holiday cottages. I particularly enjoyed the story of Maggie and her relationship with her teenage daughter.
Thank you NetGalley.
This has sat on my netgalley shelf for the best part of a year. It took me a while to get into this book however once i did I couldn’t wait to finish to see how the 4 ladies stories panned out!
A brilliant read. Perfect for summer. My only criticisms would be that the missing ‘ff’ and ‘fi’ got quite confusing at times and the amount of characters was quite overwhelming
This was a well-written book with some believable characters. All the main characters are women. One is a single parent who has been struggling to find herself, another is on holiday with her family and the hopefully next love of her life! The final character has run away from home for a bit. I liked the interactions and their hopes and dreams for the future. As usual Lucy writes about believable and likeable people.
Normally, I am a huge fan of Lucy Diamond but I didn't enjoy this book. There were too many characters and I struggling to feel any connection with them.
Great book which I really enjoyed! I have always liked Lucy Diamond novels and find her stories never disappoint - this one included! Lovely characters and lovely woven story which brings them all together in an idyllic sounding location. A lot of it was so true to life - blended families; troublesome teenagers; single parents - that you could just see it happening. And you can’t get a better setting for a book than the West Country, especially when you live 5 minutes from. Newton Abbot which is mentioned!
Highly recommended- would be a great beach read, though I have read it in the middle of a wet winter and it just made me look forward to my next summer holiday.
Thank you to Net Galley and the publishers for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review which is what I have given.
I really enjoyed this book! Such a nice and light read (frustrating that all of the ‘gg’ and ‘fi’ had been removed from the copy which was a pain sometimes but other than that I loved it. Really nice book to pick up and I think would be perfect for a summer holiday read
I have read and enjoyed some of Lucy Diamond's previous books so I was looking forward to this one. I wasn't disappointed. This is a lovely easy read - a heartwarming story of three women. on family holiday in a luxury cottage in the Cornish countryside. I enjoyed the hidden twists and secrets throughout the book. It is a story of getting away from it all, family, relationships, motherhood, anxiety, social media and emotions.
A perfect book for a holiday read or for a cosy afternoon on the sofa.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review
Lucy diamond and has such aunique way of intertwining characters and this book was no different. You weave through the trial and tribulations of 4 women with the backdrop of Cornwall.
I really enjoyed this book- pure Escapism!
Lucy Diamond writes books which draw the reader in very quickly and this one is no exception.
There are many hidden twists and secrets within this book which make for a great read and a holiday that the main characters will never forget!
Thank you to Netgalley, Macmillan, and Lucy Diamond for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review
If you don’t feel able to have a holiday this year, read this book and get transported to Cornwall. The story is warm and funny and the characters have problems that lots of us can identify with I’m sure. The book weaves an engrossing story around the characters and their trials and tribulations. Another Lucy Diamond hit.
Loved this story! A story of four different women who rent out cottages in a complex in Cornwall, but at first that seems like all they have in common is their choice of location and the same kind of stage of life they're at... but as we get to know them we see there's more to them than meet the eye... There's also the fun of trying to cope with blended families, conflicts with teens and trying to find romance when you have your kids in tow!
I loved the setting, it's made me really want to go on holiday and enjoy being by the pool again... I love how it's set in Cornwall and helps to inspire people to enjoy the brilliant holidays we can have in Cornwall... and all the joys of meeting people whilst we're at it!
I love Lucy Diamond books, they always pull me in and I love the characters... this one did just that and didn't disappoint. It's the perfect summer read with amazing characters.
Ah I have said it before and I will say it again - I do love a Lucy Diamond book. You know you are guaranteed a good few hours of pure escapism.
Lorna and Roy rent out three holiday cottages in Falmouth, Cornwall of varying sizes. Where the story picks up one of the cottages is soon to be occupied by Maggie and are teenage daughter Amelia (who Maggie fears is in with the wrong crowd and no longer wants to spend time with her mother).
Another, the largest, is home for two weeks to divorcee Em and her two teenage children, Izzy and Jack. However since booking it she has fallen in love again and, on the spur of the moment, has invited her beau George to join the family holiday. The only downside being that his 7 year old daughter needs to come along too (she actually sounds like the devil child!). She imagines a holiday of family and romantic bliss.
And then there is Olivia, a wife and mother of twin toddler boys, who seems to have lost her way and let everything get on top of her. She can’t seem to escape her past and the secrets she is keeping.
A thoroughly enjoyable book which admittedly had a few predictable events. I read this whilst still in somewhat of a lockdown state and so it was fab to read about somewhere sunny and warm with beaches and ice cream.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced read copy of this book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
An Almost Perfect Holiday is a book that will resonate with most Mothers.
In the book we meet Em, Maggie, Olivia and Lorna. Four women who are at different points of motherhood, and all the challenges that life throws at them. The four are struggling with motherhood in one way or another, for different reasons. I feel they are also struggling to find their voice, struggling to know who they are, outside of their own family dynamics.
Having said that, it’s an uplifting read, about support, and how opening up and speaking of your worries, can make you feel less isolated. How you can feel less alone in your situation, see things more clearly, and start to work things through.
I love the idea of the Happiness Art Project. Some may struggle with the concept, like Maggie does initially, but I love the symbolism of letting go of what we let hold us back. It’s a simple, but powerful idea we could all do.
I recommend this book for anyone who has felt they are the only one struggling, because you are definitely not alone in that feeling.
An Almost Perfect Holiday
I love Lucy Diamond. I have read many of her books and her writing is beautiful. It has a lovely thoughtful quality about it that makes it feel familiar and comforting at the same time. I would never say no to a Lucy Diamond book..they are always near the top of my most wanted books.
Having said that...I didn't love this particular story.
Em, Maggie, Olivia and Lorna were all well rounded characters with flaws and lovely quirks which I enjoyed very much but their storylines just felt a bit over the top.
I am very lucky to have a wonderful 16 year old niece that is beautiful inside and out...I just cannot get my head around a 16 year old behaving like Izzie. Maybe I am spoilt by my niece or out of touch! I also don't think Em can be dating someone whose child she hates...especially when that child is so young!
With regards to Maggie.
.I enjoyed some parts of her story...her daughter was another terrible teenager.just horrid. I also didn't like her "reinvention " the activities she chose seemed over the top and fake to me.
Lorna was lovely but the descriptions of grief felt too overwhelming. Anyone who has struggled with grief may find this a bit too hard.
Olivia - well I cannot say much about this without spoilers but I HATED her. Her actions both in the present & especially the past were truly disgusting & I could never get over that. She cost certain characters a 2nd chance & that's just not okay.
Overall an enjoyable easy to read book (though the storylines were not easy reading...Lucy Diamonds lovely tone certainly is) but not the best Lucy Diamond I have read by far.
Thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Lucy Diamond's books always seem to get better and better and this one is no exception. We go on holiday with three women to some cottages in Cornwall owned by Lorna and Roy. Each lady has her own issues with life.
Some interesting twists and secrets are interwoven in the plot and has a surprise ending.
Unfortunately this was unreadable, there were too many issues with the formatting of the text, words missing. I will try and get a copy from the library when I can. This is the only reason for me giving it one star, as I can not review it fairly.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
Was a good well written story based on 3 families, real life which many can relate from. Only downside was many words missing letters so found myself guessing what words said some pretty obvious but some not so obvious, although i did not let this put me off.
The formatting on the kindle file made it almost impossible to read. Lots of parts of words missing. When the library reopens I’ll order a physical copy and read it then.
I’ve tried reading this book but there’s obviously an error with the download. Most of the ‘f’’s are missing in the text along with some other letters that surround them. To say it’s a little annoying is an understatement. I’ve given up trying to read it. I normally love Lucy Diamond books so if I see this once I get back out of
Lockdown I’ll definitely purchase it. I just hope the errors were corrected before release on ePub and kindle.
This was a nice and easy book to read . It wasn’t stand out but it was a good story with likeable characters.
