Yet again another brilliant addition to Maria Vegara's collection. Admittedly I hadn't heard of Astrid Lindgren before, despite having read Pippi Longstockings multiple times but I loved this short bio!
For a change, I know the person this book is about: Astrid Lindgren.
Still, this book gave me extra knowledge, that she wrote the screenplays to the book adaptations and that there is a planet named after her.
Astrid Lindgren sounds like a fun person I would have loved to meet, and the illustrations in this book show her life, her creations, but also her rebellous streak - she was the first woman in her town to wear short hair.
Again, full recommendations for little ones and bigger readers alike.
I recieved a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I thought that where this book really excelled was having the illustrations mirror the illustration styles of Pippi Longstocking and Lindgren's other works. Overall, another solid entry into this series.
This was a 'no' from me. While I've been brave and passed over the unattractive, and excessively childish (which is not the same as child-friendly) artwork other books in this series have, I can't here. It's just plain ugly, and without merit. Also, the story here in this potted child-friendly biography is all over the place. I wanted a book to tell me about Ms Lindgren, and I sort of got that, but the book is also telling us how great the Pippi Longstocking stories are. And it strikes me that if you have read those, you'll be too old for this volume itself. And if you haven't, this won't engage you and stick in your mind long enough for you to grow to the age where you can do so. So we're left with a moderately successful telling of the author's maverick life (short hair, children before marriage etc), which is hampered by it not realising who it should be telling us about – Astrid or Pippi. A shame – one and a half stars.
This was a cute book about the author of Pippi Longstocking. The illustrations were beautiful, and I wish I could frame some of them for my daughter's room. The text was not quite as special in my opinion, but it was still an entertaining and quick read.
Thank you netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I loved pippi longstocking as a child. Getting to know the woman who created her was really fun. Sweet, vivid, bold drawings matched well to the wild character Astrid Crete’s. It’s always really cool to see where and from whom an idea comes from. .
While scanning through the books on NetGalley, I stumbled across this awesome new board book series for babies and toddlers. The vibrant, yet simple, covers displaying historical women that I have grown up learning caught my eye, and it instantly drew me to dig in and see what this series is all about.
Through my reading and my post-reading research, I have learned that Little People, Big Dreams is a series that focuses on introducing the youngest of readers to amazing, wonderful women that have influenced the world.
Each book is purposely designed in order to highlight one woman who has made a difference in the world. It tells the story of that women's dream and how she was able to make her dream come true despite the biggest obstacles.
I loved the simplicity of the design of the series, Little People, Big Dreams. The authors and illustrators who have worked on this project clearly understand their audience, and they have made each of the books reflect exactly what they want their youngest of readers to be exposed to.
Designed for babies and toddlers, Little People, Big Dreams uses simple text and engaging pictures to tell the story of each woman in a kid-friendly manner.
Often times, my biggest complaint with board books is that they lack plots or messages. Even though board books are purposely designed for babies and toddlers, I absolutely believe they still need to be strong examples of books that contain both strong plots and messages. All age levels of children need to have access to great texts.
I loved how Little People, Big Dreams designed their biography series for baby and preschool readers. There are not many nonfiction book series out there. This series is absolutely helping to pave the way to push the norm for what we typically think of when we think of baby books.
Little People, Big Dreams series is a positive example of how even our youngest of readers can read and learn from awesome books!
The story of Astrid Lindgren was absolutely-deserved to become one of the newest biographies add to the Little People, Big Dreams Collection. Astrid is responsible for the development of one of children's literature most beloved characters: Pippi Longstocking.
I love the books in this series and always find something new in them.
This was a book that focused on an author I didn't know anything about.
I had heard of the books she had written but nothing about the lady herself so this was a great one for me
Lovely images and another great addition to the series - 4 stars from me for this one
This book was a lovely addition to the series and was interesting to learn about about another inspiring woman! Will be an amazing read for young children and very educational.
I love how this series highlights unexpected people like Astrid Lindgren - who had an impact on the world, but wouldn't normally make charts of the "greats". This was a fun view to see how a person can affect so many by simply being herself and living her life--how interesting to discover that Pippi was a funny name her daughter came up with and asked her mom to make up stories about.
Astrid Lingred is the author of the Pippi Longstocking tales. This book is one of the new 2020 additions to the Little People, Big Dreams series which I'm 100% obsessed with. I adore the entire series and their fun way to share factual life stories of important humans from history. The illustrations follow a similar style across the series, yet each one enraptures the spirit of the person for which the book is about by using clever color schemes and content relevant imagery. I love how this continuity is present while also making each book effectively stand out.
Astrid was a young Swedish girl who fell in love with stories at an early age, she grew to be a strong and independent woman, and wrote Pippi Longstocking by request of her daughter. This short biography gives more details to each of these milestones in her life as well as the origination of her award winning heroine. The colors feel uplifting and spring themed, which are appropriate for Astrid's personality as well as the March 2020 publish date. Another favorite feature is the timeline and synopsis at the end of the book including real photos of Astrid.
This series is so wonderful because it is told in a way that feels like a sweet bedtime story yet contains great information for young and old readers alike. I love reading these with my kids, and for myself. I highly recommend this book as well as the others in this series to all ages! A must have for a children's library.
I love the picture books that Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara does. They are perfect for little children.
This one is a picture book that introduces the little readers to the incredible life of the famous children's author Astrid Lindgren who wrote the Pippi Longstocking books.
It is written in simple sentences, which are perfect for the little ones and it offers them inspiring messages.
I love how quirky the illustrations are.
I received a copy of this adorable book via the publisher and NetGalley.
I have two amazing daughters of my own and we thoroughly enjoy the Little People, Big Dreams series by Isabel Sanchez Vegara. The story about Astrid Lindgren was no different.
The book contained the same, wonderful illustrations as all the others in the series. The bright colors and original drawings always enthrall my children and I as we read about these amazing people.
The story of Astrid was one I didn’t know about before hand. Although I’ve read Pippi Longstocking and loved the movie as a child, I guess I didn’t realize it was Astrid Lindgren who created the character. That’s what this book is about; Astrid’s life and her creating of Pippi Longstocking and all the stories, shows, and love that came after she imagined this amazing character for her daughter.
I highly recommend this book. It’s great for younger ages because it doesn’t give too much information, but it’s also perfect for a bit older children as well because it gives just enough to peek their interest and cause them to want to know more.
We can’t wait to see what Little People, Big Dreams comes up with next!
I received an advanced reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
This book is another delightful short read about an influential woman who has influenced and inspired people. Astrid Lindgren grew up very happy living on a farm with her family and then one day she discovered a passion for reading and it changed her life immensely. Astrid was well known for her childrens books about a fun and adventurous character called Pippi Longstocking who I remeber from my own childhood. This is a delightful read and is inspirational to children showing them that a passion for something can turn into a dream which can turn into reality.
The ARC of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The ‘My First Little People, Big Dreams’ series provides informative and inspirational biographies about people who left a mark on this earth, no matter what difficulties they have encountered.
These stories are very short, but that’s because they’re books for children, so it’s totally understandable.
I think they are a very smart and wonderful way to introduce little children to such important figures.
This here is about Astrid Lindgren, the author of Pippi Longstocking. When I was a child I really loved Pippi's wilderness and honesty. It was cool knowing about the person behind Pippi and how she was created.
Beautifully illustrated, inspiring book
As a child, I read a lot of Astrid Lindgren's books and eventually watched the Pippi Longstocking series, which I loved. This book is a short summary of Lindgrens life and how she grew up. It is beautifully illustrated with wonderful, thoughtful pictures, and easy to understand. A great addition to your kids collection, and a perfect way to inspire kids to think and dream big!
This series is always a joy to read, it’s a really nice introduction to well known women for little children. Of course the plot is always a little bit fast but that’s to be expected and it’s totally understandable.
It was nice to learn more about Astrid Lindgren, the woman and author, who created such a beloved character: Pippi Longstocking. I still remember me watching the TV series and reading the books when I was a little girl, Pippi was such fun and I adored spending time in her company. I think this book is the perfect opportunity to go behind the scenes and get to know the person who made such a loved character possible.
One in a series of Little People Big Dreams published by Frances Lincoln Children Books highlighting the lives of persons who grew up to make a difference.
This delightfully illustrated mini biography is of a favorite author, Astrid Lindgren, who grew up to be a great storyteller and more. It is kind of a given that I loved it and can't wait to buy copies for others!
I requested and received a free ebook copy from Quarto Publishing Group - Frances Lincoln Children's Books via NetGalley. Thank you!
A delightful brief introduction to author Astrid Lindgren. Pippi Longstocking was one of my most beloved childhood characters. I didn't realize until I was an adult that Lindgren wrote ,any PL books. I think I only had two so I thought that was it. Pippi edures because she's timeless. The illustrations are precious.
Astrid Lindgren by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara is another charming addition to the Little People BIG DREAMS series. This time around, it is the creator of the beloved literary character, Pippi Longstocking, whose life is examined in a much simplified, yet accessible, way. Once again, through a text that is accompanied by appealing illustrations, we learn of the early life of this Swedish author, whose own name might not be immediately recognizable, but who is the genius behind the enduring and well known heroine of children's literature, the irrepressible and unforgettable Pippi Longstocking.
This is yet another gem to add to an already impressive and incomparable collection.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Frances Lincoln Childrens for this ARC.
