Enjoyed The Truth About Murder by Chris Collett which is a mystery thriller featuring policeman Mick Fraser investigating the mugging of Stefan Greaves, a missing woman and a murder. Would recommend this novel to anyone who likes a good thriller and Chris Collett's books in the D.I. Mariner series are also worth reading as they are excellent and begin with Deadly Lies, book 1.
During an investigation into a complaint about a hospital Stefan is viciously and brutally mugged. Things start taking a strange turn and a body turns up. Is there a connection to the mugging?
This was a gripping read i thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
Chris Collett books are always an absolute joy to read. This book is no different. Strongly recommend.
This is a well written police procedural novel
I really enjoyed this book and will look out for any more by the author
A great crime thriller from the very beginning. Well written, good characters and I really enjoyed - highly recommend
This was a brilliant crime thriller. From the very start I was gripped and couldn’t turn the pages quick enough to find out what was going on. Brilliant.
Nice page turner and a nice easy read
As usual Chris delivers another good storyline
Highly recommended
What a read. The more I read the more I thought I knew what to expect. Boy was I wrong. A police thriller I could not put down I HAD TO KNOW THE TRUTH. This book had me sat on the edge of my seat and constantly holding my breath. Another great read from this author.
Thanks to Joffre Books and Netgalley for the ARC in return for giving an honest review
This was an interesting read. Stefan Greaves works for a law firm and he is brutally attacked while investigating what is happening in the postnatal ward. And then a body is found in the river, are there any links between these crimes?
Thank you Netgalley and the author for this opportunity.
Really enjoyed this. Was full of twists and turns that you didn't see coming. Would definately recommend
I just couldn't get into this book at all. It was too slow and I found the commentary by the various characters boring. It just wasn't for me, sorry.
Great novel. Intriguing storyline and fantastic characterisation throughout. Really got to know the main characters as they developed.
This is an interesting book, which held my attention. There were enough surprises to keep the pages turning.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I’m a huge fan of Ms. Collett’s DI Mariner series. So I was very excited to read her new book (and hopefully not a stand-alone) as usual, her writing is well thought out and there are plenty of twists and turns. The subject matter is very interesting, something I’ve never really seen written about. It’s a fast paced read that I really enjoyed.
A well written and certainly unique, twisted crime novel with a disturbing plot line. Admittedly though I prefer this author's Mariner series.
I really enjoyed this book so much. It has a really great plot, superb main characters and I read it in one sitting. I would highly recommend this book.
Fast paced police thriller with interesting characters, a disturbing storyline and lots of twists. A mugging turns into a lot more and Mick Fraser must persevere to solve the crimes.
This story has many strings that all lead to one ending.
Stefan works for a law firm and is approached by Rita a long standing nurse who wants him to investigate wrong doings within the wards caring for babies. As he accepts this case, he endures a serious beating whilst out to the shops which leave him critically injured.
Detective Frank's is working alongside his new partner Denny, an unfriendly character, who is due soon to retire.
This story is told from the perspectives of both of these men who become further linked after the deaths of both Rita and Denny.
Questions are raised around these deaths which leads to a scandal within the hospital.
New author for me but very enjoyable read, I definetly recommend.
This is a reasonably complex tale, told from the points of view of two characters: Stefan, the victim of a mugging, and Mick, the investigating police officer, a newly arrived police constable. Each has access to different sources of information connected to a suspicious death; is it suicide or murder? The main suspects, if it is the latter, are fairly easy to spot, but there are a few red herrings to cloud the picture, at least one of whom is hard to spot. The prologue, and the bit of the investigation to which it links, helps to clarify motive as well as being a minor red herring, but this is somewhat gratuitous since Stefan can easily work it out without this help. Although the two main protagonists meet and interact regularly, they miss opportunities to pool information, which would have speeded up the whole process. Overall, though, it is a well written and enjoyable read.
I’m sorry, I was unable to finish this book. I got about a quarter of the way through it and actually just found it really boring. I might try again later to read it but I can’t promise
