This was a delightful read that saw me through a stressful week with some pages here and there. In the last 24 hours, I was able to read this properly and the characters and story were strong, Mel is a great but complicated character, the unfolding of her past and her ability to settle into Virgin River life and work was easy, fulfilling reading. Jack, Preacher and Doc were great supporting characters. I have book two poised and I cannot wait for Preacher's story.

Before I begin this review, I want to confess that I ended up watching the series’ first. I blame my Dad, he got next level obsessed with it.

That done, I’ll start. I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I should have, and I blame the TV show. All the elements of this book should have led to something I loved. I’ve just read some of the 5-star reviews and I’m jealous I want to be one of those people! I should love this book. It has all the qualities that should make my soul sing. But here I am… quietly sulking about just not getting it.

I think my issue lay with Jack, he wasn’t a character I liked – or even wanted to like. Long story short he was a bit of a plonker, and I couldn’t get past that. The surrounding characters were interesting and likeable, and the plot was fast paced and kept me wanting to know more.

I wish I hadn’t watched the show first, there were elements I really enjoyed – Like Mel living with Doc, there relationship was much more realistic on the page and I’d love to explore that more.

I don’t think this book was bad, I just think I ruined it for my self – my advice? Read the book first!

3.5 stars

I was fortunate to receive an ARC of this book from @millsandboon via @netgalley. This is my first read by @robyncarrwriter despite have a few of books on my shelf!

Virgin River follows the story of Mel, a nurse midwife from LA who goes from one extreme to the other and moved to the small town of Virgin River for a fresh start although on her arrival nothing seems to be like what she had in her minds eye, nor what she was promised. Her story unfolds as she gets to know the doctor she’s going to work with and the towns folk.

It takes a strong person to uproot their life and move to a complete different town and pace. Mel has strong built into her, through her job, and copes with everything her new life is throwing at her. Throughout there’s a romance with Jack and it’s really sweet the way he sees her and knows what she needs.

There are many more books in the series for you to enjoy and Virgin River is now a popular series on @netflix! I love the casting for the series - especially Jack! It reminds me a little of Hart of Dixie so if you enjoyed that I think you’ll enjoy this!

After binge watching the Netflix series, I was desperate to read Robyn Carr's original Virgin River novel and was not disappointed. It was great to read the story of Melinda ,a nurse, arriving in a small town after the heartache of losing her husband. She meets Jack, a bar owner with troubles of his own, who she strikes up a friendship with.

I loved this novel and even though I'd seen the Netflix series and had an idea of where the story was going, I was still gripped and rooting for Melinda and Jack from their first meeting. This story was comforting and warm and I would love to sit and read this with a glass of wine under a warm blanket.

Thank you NetGalley for the advanced copy.

This is the first instalment in this series in which we are introduced to some of the leading characters. We meet Mel and Jack, along with the Doctor and his Wife.

I truly adore Mel's character in this book. The author has given her character so much depth, and we learn so much about her as an individual, including her heart ache, and her grief in losing her husband. I felt a connection to Mel instantly, and found myself rather emotional alongside her as she struggled with her own feelings.

Mel meets Jack in the small town, in Virgin River, a place in which everyone seems to know everyone else, and it certainly seems to be a close community. I like how these characters go from forming a friendship initially before becoming lovers, and I found that it really did allow the story to flow beautifully.

A fantastic, enchanting read that I couldn't put down. I can't wait to start on the next book in this series.

Mel leaves LA to the small town of Virgin River to move on from her grief. I was super sceptical about this book because I've seen the TV show on Netflix and other than being decent background tele I'm not massively keen on it. I requested to read the book to see what the show was based on out of curiosity. I am so glad I did, it was a very good book. Quite different from the TV show and although it is part of a large book series, the book is also stand alone. The character development and plot is better than the show and the way the book handles the plot twists that are also seen in the show is so much better. People are missing out from a treat if they like the show. The book is significantly better!!

I received with thanks e-copy of Virgin River from Mills and Boon and Netgalley.

This is my review of Virgin River by Robyn Carr. Even though I was gifted this novel, all opinions are my own.

I have to admit I watch season 1 of the Netflix show 1st before reading this book. But I enjoyed the book so much and while waiting for season 2 I requested this book. I do love and small town romance. Melinda and Jack are wonderful lead characters and I enjoyed reading about their tale. This book is different from the show, but this a good thing and I appreciated the differences both tales provided.

Would recommend if you enjoy small town romances.

Lovely romantic read, small town America, cute couple. I don’t think a lot really happens as it’s focused more on the romance, but a lovely read

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion

This is a lovely, easy, romantic read. Set in a small town, with some interesting characters, not a lot happens apart from two people falling in love. A quick, summer read. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

Mel’s life is in crisis after the death of her husband and she wants to escape all that is familiar. When she arrives at Virgin River in the middle of winter her disaster is just beginning so is her new life.

I have read many book by Robyn Carr by far this series is my favourite. The characters. the happiness/sadness/humour is so true to life but there is also the way people do things for the best reasons.

Lovely book and series and it is timeless.

Romantic novel with good depth and characters. Set in a backwoods town a midwife tries to move on from a tragedy in her past. She soon realises that there is more to life than designer clothes. A good read.

loved this book. I always enjoy small town settings and this did not disappoint.
This was my first Robin Carr book and I now have a new series to read.

In this book we meet the residents of Virgin River. Our main character is Melinda. She is widowed and answers an advertisement to come to virgin river to be the Midwife. All is not as it seems when she arrives, the cabin is not as shown in the photos, the resident Dr does not want her there. However, there are some who do want her to stay including Jack.
This is their story and how a place can grow on you and change you .

I am looking forward to the next book. I

Enjoyed reading the source material of the program that's really sweet, and layered, Nothing too deep or life-changing here, but it kept me interested enough to read all the way through.

After having binge watched the tv series on Netflix, I was really excited to read the book that inspired it. Jack doesn’t come across as quite so likeable in the book, whereas we get a better insight into Mel’s character, which is just lovely. She is so relatable, with such a heartbreaking back story, that you can’t help but want her to find love with Jack. The small town setting is just lovely and I love the way the author weaves in quirky secondary characters to add interest. It’s a wonderful story that really tugs at your emotions.
