That was an excellent read, not only did that fulfil for me what a thriller is all about but introduced us to a cast of people who could become firm favorites if their stories get to follow. I loved it, with tanks to #NetGalley and Bookouture for the Arc

The Strangers Wife is the second book in this series I’ve read and it was a really good addition but this can definitely be read as a stand-alone as well.
Detective Dan Riley is someone I was glad to welcome back, he doesn’t back off anything and I loved to get to know him more through his personal life. Beth is in a loveless marriage, ignored for years, no physical contact and no love at all and then there is Cath, she is a punch bag for her partner and has been in and out of hospital for years, always forgiving hi until he does the unthinkable. At first it’s hard to see how these two women will meet as Beth although ignored has everything money can buy whereas Cath is struggling to make ends meet every day and lives in a horrible bedsit. This book is definitely best coming in with no clues as it was a really good read to find out how this was going to pan out and it didn’t pan out the way I thought it was going to. Can’t wait to catch up with Dan again, hopefully in the not so distant future.

This book really did not gel with me. I did finish it but it was a definite slog and I skim-read about 40% of it. There was just nothing in the plot which I found particularly gripping and, while the characters were alright, I wasn't invested enough to make up for the lack of good story. The two female characters described in the blurb don't meet until about 60% of the way through the book and once they do, things become very pedestrian. I also feel the plot they hatched made no sense? I could see no advantage to what they did. So disappointing!

What a throughly enjoyable read this was! This is a book that plays on your mind even when you’re not reading it. The twist in plot was a little “Convenient” but plausible all the same. The author has very effectively brought the life of two seemingly disconnected women together and how! All the characters were really well developed and it was not difficult to understand or relate to them. I felt terrible for both Beth and Cath and I could understand their frustration and helplessness. Initially while reading the first few chapters it felt like I was reading two different books because there was absolutely no overlap between the stories of Beth and Cath, but it paid off to carry on following the plot all the same. Detective Dan Riley is truly a man of integrity and he makes some great points about justice and law. The one line I read in this book that will stay with me a long time to come is “He wasn’t born a monster, monsters are made”, so true and profound. Highly recommend this book.

I loved the other two books and this book was just brilliant as well. I was hooked within the first few pages and I found it could be read as a stand alone book as well....But If you have done that I recommend you read the other two you will not be disappointed!
It's very cleverly written throughout and it has a shocking ending!!!

This book is full of twists and turns and my heart went out to both women who were controlled by their husbands. Its Brilliant!!!

This is the first book I have read by Anna-Lou Weatherley and I enjoyed it. I had no idea this was the 3rd book following Det Dan Riley. Luckily it reads well as a standalone. At first, I was a little thrown off by the alternating dialogue, not because of the switch in characters, but the back and forth with the years. As soon as I caught on, it was smooth sailing. While I do not feel there was any huge twist in the book, I was not disappointed. Quick, fast read.

This book was a breath of fresh air! Sound weird to say reading a thriller? Not really when you start reading this book and it is surprisingly different from a typical thriller with a serial killer or another basic whodunit mystery book. It is a fast paced suspenseful book about Beth and Cath. The author tells the story from many different characters ( which I loved) and has so much depth to the writing you can't help but feel like your part of the story. I was very impressed by the writing I think I found another author to add to my watch list for her future books ! Great characters , great story line ...SO DIFFERENT and lot of suspense. All in all a very good thriller. Read today honestly you won't be disappointed!

The Stranger's Wife is the 3rd book in the Dan Riley trilogy. Similar to the previous two in the series, it begins with intrigue and a trail of murders that seem almost impossible to solve.

This case involves two women with very different lives. One woman is the soccer mom with a good job, successful husband and big house. The other woman could be her opposite, living in filth with an abusive boyfriend who will undoubtedly kill her one day. However, in a chance meeting they seem to have more in common than can be believed. Add to this a group of influential who want to keep the case from being solved, and Dan off the case, and it makes for a page turner.

The Stranger's Wife is a psychological thriller that is impossible to put down. In fact, I stayed up very late one night since I just couldn't put it down. If you like cop dramas and psychological thrillers, consider picking this one up.

The Strangers Wife is a tough book for me to review. I liked it but yet I didn't. About halfway through the book, I got a bit bored. The story didn't hold my attention, almost to the point of not finishing it. One key point in the story was child manipulation/abuse.  Personally, I can not handle that and is an immediate turn off no matter where the story may lead. The writing itself was good. It was written in multiple points of view. It bounced back and forth between Cat and Beth, and periodically the point of view of Dan (the detective). There really weren't any surprises or twists.  The Stranger's Wife is an explanation of a crime the reader already knows about and there is no shortage of bad things happening to any number of characters. Ultimately it's a story of Cat and Beth, two abused women, getting their revenge because of "one shocking thing in common."

The Stranger's Wife is the 3rd book in the Detective Dan Riley Series. I was not aware of this at the time of requesting this book. However, it is a book that can be read as a stand-alone book. After I completed this book, I don't have any desire to read the other two books in the series.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I started it a few days ago and then just got totally hooked yesterday about a third of the way through and stayed up til midnight so I could finish it! Beth and Cath are two very strong women from two very different backgrounds who look alike and meet totally by chance. There were quite a few surprises in this book and twists I wasn't expecting regarding Beth. I recommend this book!

This is the first book i have read by Anna-Lou Weatherley and i was very impressed.Cath and Beth come from very different backgrounds but they have one thing in common they are both in unhappy relationships,and so when they meet quite by chance on a train to Bristol they find themselves thrown together in a plot which they hope will free them from the nightmares they are both living,the plot they hatch is a genius plan but they haven't banked on DI Dan Riley being on the case but will he unearth the crime ? The book can be read as a stand alone thriller in my opinion because i think DI Riley has appeared in an earlier book,but this is an excellent psychological thriller from A-L Weatherley and without a doubt a great start to my book reading in 2020.I would certainly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys this genre,a superb 5 star read all the way !

I was looking forward to another Detective Dan Riley book. They are always so twisted. This was less twisty than the others but less fantastical than them as well. I'm not sure if that made it better or worse but it was still good. The title will soon remind you of a classic story. It lead me to think it was going one way when it almost did....and then went off on another, not completely different but not the same either.

We go back and forth over a two year period. The book actually begins before the events of a previous book. A nanny disappears and Detective Riley answers the call. Beth comes home to find her 4 year old asleep alone in the house, doors unlocked, trusted friend missing. She realizes that her activities of the day will soon come out, so she comes clean.

Fast forward two years and a man has been shot in the head and a woman has been beaten. The cases all intertwine and telling anymore will take away from the discovery. It's still what I love about these books. They come back around on themselves and bring everything together.

just Finished. Cath and Beth are in abusive marriages but very different financial situations. During a chance meeting, they devise a plan on how to escape their marriages and move on.

Overall, a decent amount of twists and turns and decent pacing. 3 stars for me as the plot was somewhat far fetched and at times I caught myself skimming.

I’m halfway through it right now and loving it. I think I know what’s going to happen but I’m probably wrong and that’s the direction a suspense book should take you!

The book was a page-turner for me even though I was able to see the twists coming. It didn’t take away one bit from how much I enjoyed the book. I felt totally invested in the story mainly because I really wanted to see these two women become free of these wicked men and also because the author is a great storyteller. The story unfolded seamlessly.

It was the first book I read in the series and it can be read a stand-alone. I will be going back to read the first two books.

I read it in a single sitting over a couple of hours and it kept me fully engaged throughout.

She's miserable and finds love and happiness in an adulterous affair that puts her and her daughter, Lily, in an untenable position. Catherine Patterson is Saul Bennet's "zombie" -- her brute of a husband is an addict who regularly beats her but this time he has gone too far. Two vengeful wives who meet by accident on the 3:15 PM train to Bristol.

The detective, Dan Riley, is about to become a father with a woman he respects but doesn't love. He understands grief but has a solid moral compass. What's he to do with this case that has so many shades of gray? As he runs down the events and the suspects, Dan wants to do the right thing but the ramifications are made obvious by his supervisors. The age old question -- is there ever a justification for murder? NO SPOILERS.

I really like this series and I do appreciate the righteousness of Dan Riley however much I wanted this all to end differently. The writing is excellent, the pacing is perfect, and the premise was intriguing. The issues were handled in a masterful manner by the author and I really connected with both Beth and Cath as women put in situations that would make even a saint go crazy. The law limits what can be done.

I really liked this book but felt like we didn't get the ending we deserved even though it was the only proper ending. I was intrigued the whole time and it was very well written. I never really got bored and was left wanting more with every new chapter.

This book was just ok for me. The conversations between characters were redundant and just took too long. I found myself skimming through a lot of it. Nothing different about this book stood out for me either.
