It's been a long time since I read any of Karin Slaughter's books and after completing this I wondered why.
I'd forgotten what a great writer she is and how you get totally immersed in the story and the characters.
Not being familiar with the characters and the Grant County history didn't make this story any less enjoyable.
Instead it created the desire to find a lot more of her books and start reading them, ideally from the start of the series.
Personally I hate reading reviews that tell you significant details of the book so all I'm going to say about this is that it goes back and forth over time a certain amount so that you can understand the background that leads to the current investigation.
An excellent read and I was very excited to actually detect who the culprit was before it was fully revealed.

This was the first Karin Slaughter book that I’ve read in years, so I was really looking forward to reading this book, as I liked both Sara Linton and Will Trent as characters and I’ve always enjoyed Karin’s plot lines. However, I really struggled to get into this book and it took me a lot longer than normal to finish this book, as the plot I thought was unrealistic and to be honest it didn’t really grab me despite the exciting start.
The writing was good and there were a few twists and turns, but I’ve read better books from her

A young woman gets brutally raped and murdered. The attacker is put behind bars but 8 years on he still claims to be innocent.
As more victims are uncovered, it soon becomes apparent that the killer is still out there and more women are in danger.
This is the 10th book in a series, but even though I haven't read any of the previous books, I found that this one worked pretty well as a stand-alone novel as it provided enough details from the past to keep me on track.
The story alternated between the present investigation and the one that took place eight years earlier.
It was a good entertaining read, full of twists and turns that kept me guessing who the killer was until the very end.
The minus is that it dragged a bit. I also found some parts contained too much of technical jargon and to a layman like me, it felt unnecessary.
Overall, it was a good book, but it features some rather graphic descriptions so if you're not into gory scenes then you might want to give it a miss.

Its been a while since I read a book by Karin Slaughter but i jumped right back into this one and the world of Sara Linton and Will Trent.
I was hooked an on my toes from page 1 wondering which way it was going to go and if my suspicions on who the killer was (and i was right). I got slightly confused at one point as there was chapters from Jeffery Tolliver's (Sara's husband) POV but then realised it was a flash back as a criminal had tried to cast a bad light on him and it was a look back at events that were now featuring in their present.
I absolutely loved Faith! she had me in fits of giggles with her quirky nature. She has a a limited filter which I loved.
I am now kicking myself for wondering why I have waited so long to read Karin again, it certainly wont be so long in future.

This book is not for the fainthearted as Karin Slaughter does not spare her readers’ feelings. At times I had to take a break and draw breath from the horrors of what these women were either going through or had gone through before they were maimed or murdered. That said, I could not fault the author for her scarily intelligent and fast paced plot. Also, I cannot believe how much detailed knowledge the author packed into her book and I had brain overload just trying to digest everything. I came away from chapter having learnt something new.
If you have not read any of Karin Slaughter’s Grant County books, reading this one will make you want to pursue the back catalogue.
What an inspired idea to have an old murder case re-emerge. With Jeffrey Tolliver’s policing versus Will Trent’s detective work and Sara Linton having to lay bare her feelings, 5 stars is never going to be enough to do this book justice.

It's the first book I read by this author and won't surely be the last because I loved it.
It's a gripping and entertaining read that kept me on the edge till the end.
Great plot, fast paced, great cast of characters and a solid mystery.
I can't wait to read another book in this series.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.

This book kept me gripped and hooked right to the very end. The brutal murders of women with horrific sexual assault (content alert) are the backdrop to the novel. Interesting main characters and I would like to read other books featuring them. This is the first Karin Slaughter book I have read and I will definitely be choosing more from the wide selection available from the Library.

I LOVED this book. I've read all of Karin Slaughter's books and really wasn't sure of this 'blast from the past' but, gosh, it really works.
It's a stand alone but I would strongly encourage you to read the earlier Sara and Jeffrey / Will Trent books as it would be a shame not to understand fully the dynamics and relationship challenges of the characters.
This storyline at times contains details that are very difficult to read as they are graphic and which, because of that are very uncomfortable. However, nothing is gratuitous and it's a riveting read. Despite going from past to present (which, again can be difficult to maintain) it held my interest from first page to last.
The book is about the abduction and murder of women and alongside this runs the tale of Sara (the town Medical Examiner) and her 2 loves, moving from her past tumultuous relationship to her present.
I was so excited and grateful to have the opportunity to preview in exchange for this honest review. Thanks to NetGalley, Harper Collins UK and Karin Slaughter and wishing you all every success with this fabulous read.

Another amazing book from Karin Slaughter. I’ve loved every single one of her books and I adore the Will Trent series.
Firstly the flow of the book was great, slow at the beginning and then it builds up to that explosive end.
Secondly, I loved going back into the past and jumping to the present. I often get confused when books do this but this book was so easy to follow on.
And lastly, bringing Jeffery and Lena back into the book with their old case was great.
Thank you for the early release of the book, I thoroughly enjoyed it and can’t wait for the next instalment

Although this is a tome of a book, it is certainly worth the time. This is a continuation of previously met characters but could easily be read as a stand alone. I loved the two timelines and was sucked into the story from the first chapter. I actually gave up four hours of precious sleep as I needed to keep reading. The characters are well rounded and totally believable. There were heart pounding moments and really repulsive descriptive moments but I would change a thing!

This took a couple of chapters to get into. Probably because the prologue and first chapter were two completely different crimes. But that made me more intrigued to find out how they connected.
But by halfway that crime in the first chapters were barely mentioned again. I don’t even remember if we find out who did it. If we do it clearly didn’t mean much.
I had no problem staying interested in this. Although this is the type of book that feels like it takes forever to get through. Even though it only took me two days to read. It could just be me but it felt slow.
I knew early on this was going to be an average read. I’ve read better and I’ve read worse.
One issue I had, which is just personal preference, is I don’t care about the detectives personal lives. I’m reading the book for the crime. To figure out who did it, why they did it. How it happened and was solved. The detective lives aren’t important to me. Especially since a lot of the time is just pointless relationship drama.
I was surprised that my one theory ended up being correct. At first it was just a guess but as I got through the book it made more and more sense. The character knowledge fit the injuries of the victims.
I’m still unsure why the book is called The Silent Wife. Did I miss where that was explained?

This is the 10th book in the Will Trent series by author Karin Slaughter.
A young woman is is left for dead when she is brutally attacked in Atlanta Georgia. The police investigation is going nowhere until GBI investigator Will Trent visits the state penitentiary and a prisoner tells him he recognises the modus operendi. The prisoner states the attack looks identical to the one he was accused of eight years earlier. With the prisoner always claiming he was innocent he now feels sure he has the proof and that the killer is still on the outside.
Will investigates both crimes in order to uncover the truth, but with memories fading and witnesses becoming fewer it is not going to be easy.
Will Trent and forensic pathologist Sara Linton must re-open the cold case. But the clock is ticking, and the killer is determined to find his perfect silent wife.
The characters are so strong, some developed over the course of the ten books and this depth of character really makes this series special. The story is not rushed and it is so well written.
I would like to thank both Net Galley and Harper Collins UK for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

I love Karin Slaughter's book, and this one didn't fail to deliver, a tight plot with subtle twists kept me reading until the end.
Would I recommend this book, - oh yes.

I love the Sara Linton/ Will Trent series and I'm so pleased the story is continuing. Don't start with this one or you'll spoil it for yourself. Start with Genesis (I think it's called Undone in the US). I love how Slaughter writes. Her characters are believable and well-rounded, and the dialogue feels real. Plus the chemistry between Sara and Will is smoking!

This is a dark and disturbing story in which a number of women, past and present, are subjected to violent rape. Some of them are murdered and some of them survive.
Will Trent and his police partner, Faith, follow the trail of a serial killer. A man was incarcerated eight years ago, but did the real killer go free? When a prison riot leaves one inmate dead, another convict is willing to talk…
Will’s girlfriend, Sara Linton, is the medical examiner and she was involved eight years ago when her then husband, Jeffrey, investigated the original case. What went wrong? Was the wrong man convicted? Did Jeffrey mess up? Is there a copycat out there?
We move between past and present investigations. We see what happened to the women and the ordeal they lived through. A fair amount of this story is drama between Will and Sara, and we are taken back eight years to relive memories of Jeffrey and Sara. I usually don’t like too much romance in crime thrillers and at times I felt a tad bogged down in the angst. But I will forgive the author because the rest of the story is absolutely brilliant.
Great writing, a great plot and I was hanging on every word. Karin Slaughter is my number one crime thriller author and this book shows why.

I didn't realise this was a part of a series of books, but it didn't impede the story in any way, because everything you needed to know was explained throughout.
I really enjoyed the way the book was written, so we got to know the story both as it evolved in the past and how we were experiencing it in the present.
I would definitely read more books by this author and about these characters. So easy to read and thoroughly enjoyable.

This book was amazing, Karin Slaughter has done it again, it was so exciting, I love this book and the homage to the first series was amazing.Karin you did good.

I received this as an ARC. While I enjoyed the book and getting to know the characters in this series better, this particular e-format made it difficult to read on my Kobo e-reader. I always enjoy reading Karin Slaughter and this book was especially dark and horrific, going to places we do not find comfortable. Expanding on this subject and telling the whole story of who these victims were before and who they became after is not an area that is usually explored.

A student is found dead in the woods. When Will Trent is investigating another crime in a jail a prisoner tells him that the M.O. is like other murders that took place ten years ago. This man is not to be trusted, but it does seem that he might be onto something. When Will & his partner look into the old crimes it comes with risk to Will's relationship with Sara, as the investigating cop was her dead husband.
This was a well plotted & exciting read. I wanted to read this book because of the author. As I read I realised I'd read book 9 in the series but as a stand alone it was still a really good story with lots of twists & a sting in the tail.
Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

There are just certain authors with whom you just know what you're going to get.
Karen Slaughter is most definitely one of them.
Characters that have been developed over the years and have provided a winning formula.
Exactly as you'd expect from Ms Slaughter.
Keep them coming Karen.
