Absolutely brilliant Will Trent/ Sara Linton murder/ mystery/ romance.
As always from Karin Slaughter, a book that doesn’t hestitate to offer graphic descriptions off violence, in this instance, exclusively against women. In this story the author also explores survivors stories.
One of the most interesting Karin Slaughter books I have read in a long time. For those who are already fans of this series; a welcome, believable return of some well loved people and places. For those that don’t- a stand alone story with great plot lines and interesting characters!

I absolutely loved this book and it is no. 18 in the series but the first for me.
This novel was full of mystery and intrigue to her and I cant wait to read more Karin Slaughter.
Amazing.

As always, Karin keeps readers on their toes with an explosive start. This story is linked to past Grant County cases, so we move back to a time when Jeffrey was alive and in charge of investigation. Sara and Jeffrey are divorced, but working together. Using different time frames, we then move to present day and Sara is with Will. Can be a tad confusing initially until you realise its back in the past and present day. I really enjoyed this book but I did figure out who the killer was at 60% and I usually like to be kept guessing till the last couple of chapters! I always enjoy Wil and Sara in the Grant series although again their relationship seemed extra strained in this book. I am already excited to read the next instalment.

I am a fan of Karin Slaughters' books and enjoy following the characters in her series.
I was drawn in from the first page, this book is written from past and current perspectives spanning 8 years, but is in no way confusing.
As is usual with Karins' books the plot is hard hitting, very graphic at times and can make you flinch, but I love this about her books.
Her female characters are survivors, strong and courageous, but unusually again there is a female villain in Lena, yet also a vulnerability.
I did not see the twist coming, I was so absorbed in the pacey story and the beloved characters I couldn't put this down thankfully it is quite a big book! The ending was very satisfying.
In her writing Karin Slaughter always manages to inject a light touch of dry humour into the internal monologues, unusual for the genre and again something different I enjoy about this writer.
I thoroughly recommend this gripping, gritty, hard hitting yet absorbing book, so good to catch up again with Sara, Will and Faith, such brilliant characters
Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins UK for the ARC and the opportunity to read and review.

Overall the story is a good one, however I had issues with how the tale was told. The narrative leaps about from past to present, and even though I have read some others in this series, I found it interrupted the flow. The chapters are presented with any clues - just a placename that meant nothing to me, so it wasn't until I was in to the first few paragraphs that I appreciated whether we were in the past or present. There are other methods to present a book with back and forth shifts that work much better.
Once again I found Will Trent to be a very one dimensional character. His only role is to serve as a foil for other characters - at least in this book the author gave his dyslexia a bit of a rest.
Its a shame, the story was very good with plot twists that kept the reader guessing, but the style meant I almost hit a point when I didn't really care 'whodunnit', I just wanted it to be done.
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, HarperFiction for allowing me access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I don't even know where to begin. Wow, wow, wow. Loved it.
I have read all the books in the Grant County and Will Trent Series and I loved this as much as the others. I have come to know and love all of the characters and the different relationships over the years.
Amongst the horrifying cases there is still the beautiful, damaged love story of Sara and Will but this time their relationship is threatened by a voice from the past. Has Sara's first husband, Jeffrey Tolliver, finally come back to split them up. There is so much going on in this instalment. Back and forth between past cases and officers and present ones. What is the link? What are they missing?
I loved revisiting Jefferey, Brock and Lena (although I still wanted to punch her in the face as Faith would put it). As both stories collided the twist became clear and I was horrified to find out 'who did it'.
I personally wouldn't recommend this one as a stand alone but that is because I think you need to know the back story to the characters to fully enjoy the book without being confused. If you have read the others what are you waiting for ?
Twenty stars if I could.

There's two things that grabbed me or rather got my attention about this book, the Author Karin Slaughter, I've loved all of her books that I have read so far and this one certainly didn't disappoint either. The other was the title but in honesty I'm glad mine isn't silent but have to confess I did smile sorry if that's not PC.
Anyhow back to the review the are some great characters that seem very genuine which made the small sub-plots more real and the main plot electric. When the GBI enter a prison to investigate a murder that happened during a riot a prisoner offers info in a bid to have his name cleared of a a rape and murder charge that soon has the team busy with new info and twists a plenty, Thou he was never charged with the crimes he was however incarcerated and was hoping for a better deal or a easier life.
The rest of the story you need to read for yourself and I'm sure you will be glad you did. I have it five stars without and reservations it was enthralling from the first page to the last and never seem to let off the sense of suspense or mind grabbing narrative.

It can be tricky to read a book like this, that is part of a series; but this works well as a standalone. It may have put me off reading any earlier ones, as I now know some of the outcomes, but I will definitely be looking out for the next in the series. I enjoyed this book despite sensing who the culprit was way back in the book. I'm not even sure what gave me the idea, so there may be some subliminal stuff in there. It's a touch gruesome, so not for those why prefer a cosy.

Sometimes it's great to find two novels from a favourite author that you've managed to miss and then read them almost back to back and that's exactly what I did with The Last Widow and The Silent Wife by Karin Slaughter. These two books follow on from each other but couldn't be more different in terms of plot. Once more Slaughter has managed to not only produce a fantastic thriller, but she's ramped up the tension between Will and Sara in a very clever way ... but more about that in a bit.
My Thoughts
The Silent Wife kicks off with a prison riot that Sara, Will and the team have to investigate. During the investigation a witness claims to have been wrongly blamed for raping two women almost a decade previously. The thing is there is some credibility to his claims and everything becomes very personal to Will and Sara when they realise that Sara was involved in the examination at the time. With claims that the killer/rapist is still out there this is a race against time to find the real killer.
The thing is, not only was Sara involved in the original investigation, but so was her deceased husband Jeffrey Tolliver. This case jams a huge divide between Sara and Will, which serves to both move the plot along and to have the reader routing for them to sort things out.
The plot is told over two timelines showing the Grant County investigation of the inital crimes and the current investigation to determine whether there is a serial rapist/killer out there and how many victims have been missed over the years. This works really well and I enjoyed going back in time to a younger, different sara Linton.
The ongoing investigation is complex and Slaughter manages to throw in a series of brilliant red herrings. I found myself chopping and changing my mind as to who the perpetrator was and although I had at one point considered the actual killer, I quickly dismissed him.
The subject matter is raw and emotional. This is not an easy read, but it is an important one and until men stop raping women then it will contiue to be so. Slaughter skillfully engages the reader with the experiences of the rape victims in a sensitive, yet realistic way. She doesn't smooth over the damage or the struggle facing the vicitms, but rather through different victims experiences shows us that raped women respond in very different ways. Her focus is on the victims throughout, with scenes where the investigators react and discuss what has happened.
Although never over the top, there are some scenes that made my heart bleed at the inhumanity people subject others to.
This was a brave, strong and heart wrenching read ... but I wouldn't have missed reading for the world.

Another amazing book from Karin Slaughter. I couldn't put it down, I enjoyed it so much but I will put a trigger warning because this book contains sexual assault. It's good to visit old characters that we haven't seen from previous books for a long time. Definitely a must read if you like crime thrillers.

I could not put this book down. It has been a while since I read any of the books in this series and so characters have changed and developed, life has moved on. This made it feel real, people change, their circumstances change and they have to adapt. In this book, with its dual timeline, it is clear how events in the past affect the present day.
I very much liked the way the story was presented. I did manage to work out who the murderer was before the big reveal but as I found the how and the why of the story more interesting than the who it wasn’t a problem.

I'm going to tell you real straight. The Silent Wife is not something that you should pick for fun, expecting a happy ride. It's something that's going to stir and evoke fear in a community, especially around the women. If you're already familiar with Karin Slaughter's writing then you'll get what I'm trying to tell.
As a new reader, both of her writing and of investigation field, I find myself in awe because what she provides is a well through, specific, detailed report of investigation – consists of medical and body anatomy jargon that I as a person out of field couldn't understand. So I had to goggle every term that comes out. And so my heads become so jammed.
There's a lot of things to learn and understand that make my reading pace disturb. One thing for sure it's too graphic. Without the right ability to pictured a certain part of the body, I tired myself in trying to understand things that I don't understand. So I'll remind myself in the future to stay away from any books on the investigation if I'm not fully prepared.
I don't have a problem with anything except that the places, the date, POVs could be more organized. It shifts so fast from another year to another year costs me unable to focus.
As a woman, it is hard to devour a story of an attack toward women especially in a case of them being through the aftermath of being mutilated, raped, left to die in the wood, and being treated like an animal. It's a sadist. Knowing that many lunatics out there attacking and targeting women at their please, sometimes for no reason at all. Arouse terrible feeling. May things that happen stay fictional.

The Silent Wife is my first book by Karin Slaughter. I like to go into thrillers without knowing much or reading the description. Only later I found that this is a tenth book on the author’s Will Trent series. I love thrillers (mainly psychological) but this one is a crime thriller. I don’t really enjoy crime thrillers much but this was an exception. The story is really gripping and puts you on the edge with every twists.
A murder takes place inside a prison and GBI Will Trent finds himself talking to an inmate claiming innocence for murders that took place eight years ago in exchange for the information of the present inmates murder. Sara Linton works in the case as a medical examiner and they try to solve the mystery with their team. As far as they know the murders were mostly held as accidental but as they connected the dots they are in fear that it would lead to a serial killer.
The book is really fast paced, the characters are so well written and the twists I didn’t see it coming at all. I will definitely read more of the author’s book.

I appreciate that I am in the minority but this book wasn't for me. The story was overlong and the ending too protracted and graphic for me. I also found words/phrases not commonly used in UK and with no explanation of what they meant-usually when you highlight a word you get a meaning.
I found it quite unbelievable at the end and the idea of just shooting someone doesn't appeal.
The author has many fans and lots of 5 star reviews but the book, whilst worth a try was not for me

Love the Sara and Will novels and this one did not disappoint. Well written. Fantastic characters. Great storyline. Fast paced. I was gripped from the first until the last page. Look forward to her next offering. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it.

Now I am a big fan of Karin Slaughter but I had difficulty reading this novel because of the graphic content towards women. Apart from this some of it was really slow with too much talk. And as for Sara and Will really! What a boring couple. Just get married for goodness sake
Much preferred her former husband. Even if he was a very bad boy!

The Silent Wife is an absolutely gripping thriller with my two favourite characters Will Trent and Sarah Linton.
A serial killer is on the loose but the man who was tried and found guilty says he has evidence to prove he was framed by Sara’s previous husband Jeffrey who was chief of police, because of some evidence he has they start to look into the previous abductions and murders and discover there are too many similarities to murders of young girls that have occurred since the incarceration of this man.
This takes us back to Grant County where the story weaves beautifully between present and the past when newly divorced Sara and her ex were involved in investigating the first two victims. The tension builds up continually, the description of what the victims are subjected to is horrific and unflinching but not in a gratuitous way, rather it is heartbreaking to know how they suffered and how determined all those involved in the past and present cases do all they possibly can to find out who this evil killer is.
Within this story of violence, abduction rape and torture though is a beautiful love story and although it is almost an aside from the main story it has such depth you’re pulled into it as well as everything else cheering Will on and wanting nothing but the best for Sara.
At the end of the book in the authors note (do not read until end !) she writes..I love Will and have made him earn Sara’s love, she certainly has but in a deep abiding way so that you know this man who has had a such a hard life now has someone who loves him deeply.
Anther brilliant book from this author, and having read all her book over the last 19 years I have to say this for me was her best, though I wait the next one with great anticipation.
My thanks to net galley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly.

Brilliant - such a page turner, I got through this so quickly and couldn't put it down!
Karin Slaughter always delivers on pulse-quickening thrillers and this was no different.

Really enjoyed reading the latest Karin Slaughter book. Loved the tense moments, loved meeting the characters and getting to know them throughout the book.
Lots of twists and turns. I wanted to keep reading but had to have a few hours sleep couldn't wait to finish it

How do I even start to review this book? I promised myself that go would not read past 1 am but this book was so dark and so engrossing that I lost track of time and just kept reading. The GBI have been tracking a rapist turned murderer and finally imprisoned a man called Daryl Nesbitt .After Agent WIll Trent and Sara Linton the Medical Examiner are called to the prison when an inmate is murdered, Nesbitt asks to speak to them and says he is innocent and that Sara's dead husband Jeffrey Tolliver and Police Officer Lana Adams ran a corrupt investigation . Then another body is found and then another and the GBI have to start looking again at all the cases where there has never been DNA or any clues. The story flips backwards and forwards between Jeffrey Tolliver and the present day while the murderer is increasing his kills The details of the victim's injuries were so graphic that they made my eyes water, but they were always necessary to the story and never gratuitous. The autopsies and medical examinations were obviously well researched. I intend to read the earlier Will Trent stories and Sara's too when she was married to Jeffrey (twice).. Really enjoyed this book.
I received an ARC in return for a review.
