What can I say..... Yet again another superbly disturbing brilliant read from Karin Slaughter. Brilliant to go backwards to the good old days whilst brilliantly including in all of the new favourite characters.
Recommend this title 100%. But be warned it is not for the faint hearted and does address serious dark details.

I absolutely loved Karin Slaughter's Grant County series, however after the death of Jeffrey at the end of this series I found it difficult to read another of Slaughter's novels. I was so devastated by the fact that she had killed off Jeffery I found it hard to connect with the Will Trent series. However, this novel has definitely rekindled my love of Karin Slaughter's writing and plotting and I aim to re read the Grant County series and read the Will Trent series for the first time.
In The Silent Wife forensic pathologist Sara Linton and Agent Will Trent are investigating cold cases and the book moves between their present day investigations and the original investigations undertaken by Jeffery and his team. I absolutely loved revisiting Grant County and Jeffrey and this was the highlight of the book for me. However it was also a great introduction to Will , Faith and the relationship between Will and Sara.
There are graphic descriptions of violence towards women in this book so be aware of this before reading. However I feel that Karin Slaughter really highlights the lifelong trauma experienced by women after violence against them and the prevalence of this violence against women in our society.
Highly recommended.

This book has just the right ingredients: the relationship with Sara and Will, a bit of Faith, Lena, a reminiscing about Jefferey all intertwined with a good old whodunnit plot plus the gory bits. I sort was losing interest with Grant/Atlanta series a bit and maybe because there wasn't much cohesion in the last book and the relationship for of turned whiny than moving it on, I just wanted the characters to TALK to each other. The throwback to Jefferey was excellent and showed Sara from a different perspective and how she's matured since then, along with letting Will in on her life before. I couldn't put it down and when I did I felt a sense of contentment. The author did right by Sara and Will and finally Jeffery. And as much as Lena is a pain in the ass - I'd love to see some Faith/Lena showdowns.

The Silent Wife is the much anticipated latest instalment in Karin Slaughter’s brilliant Will Trent series. In it we are with the usual suspects in Will himself, Sara Linton, Faith Mitchell and Amanda Wagner – characters who have all become more real with each book in this series. What we also have here is a reunion with a much loved character and a much hated one too, which was bitter sweet to read. One much missed and one much less so.

The Silent Wife is, as per Slaughter’s usual MO, seriously dark. Will Trent is approached by a convicted killer claiming his innocence for a violent attack eight years previously. He also claims he has the details of multiples rapes and murders carried out by a serial killer which have been overlooked while he has been imprisoned, one having taken place just days before he speaks with Will.

This leads us on a pretty gruesome journey told over two differing time lines (which was, I confess, a little bitty for me) and is told in the author’s usual gripping and often brutal style. I have said it before with other books by Ms Slaughter; this isn’t for the faint hearted and the graphic description of some of the crimes against women is hard to read at times. One particular such description left me having to stop, pause for breath and regroup. It is an excellent book but I feel the need to point that out as some people could find it difficult to read as a result.

This is the tenth book in the Will Trent and while I guess it could possibly work as a standalone I think it is much better read in sequence. It is such a good series if you enjoy dark, gritty crime thrillers. This book isn’t my favourite of the series but I think that’s perhaps more a testament to the greatness of its predecessors as opposed to a comment on its weakness – it is still a superb book. I’m just a bit of a fussy bugger!

This was the first of Karin Slaughter’s books I’d read but I was pleasantly hooked in! Although this is actually book 10 in the Will Trent series (which I didn’t know when I requested it!) it was easily readable as a standalone book, although after reading this I will be going back to read the full set. There’s two timelines going on in this book with lots of likeable and VERY in likeable characters. A must read for those who like detective dramas!

I've read a few Karin Slaughter novels but this is the first one in the Will Trent series .I enjoyed it and it kept me guessing about who the serial killer was going to be, plenty of drama and a very good plot but it was a bit gruesome for me .but think readers who have read the previous books will appreciate it .Overall a good read

The Silent Wife was both an amazing new read and a bittersweet trip down memory lane. I have loved each of the books in this ongoing series but Jeffrey was always my favourite no matter how flawed.

This book had me gripped from start to finish with an ending that I didn't see coming at all.

The switching from past to present gave a whole new insight to the characters and I can't wait to see where they go next.

I have read many of Karin Slaughters books and this one was a cracker, I was totally hooked. A well written story with a great storyline and well thought out plot.

Disappointing for karin slaughter, hardcore fans might enjoy it, I did not. The story is messy and the different layers confusing. I just did not get it.

This was not a book that I enjoyed reading and indeed one that I struggled to get to the end of. The most disagreeable aspect was the torrent of rapes and murders described in painful detail. I enjoy a 'good murder', but this was just too gruesome for me. Solving the mystery was almost a side issue, which doesn't have to be a problem, but there was no interesting psychology or other issues to compensate. What was also reduced the enjoyment was that there were not a lot of likeable characters in the book. Most of the women in the book were weak victims with not much else to them and most of the men were rather one dimensional beings as well. This is not an author I'll be reaching for again.

To be honest I didn’t even read the blurb when this book popped up on my feed, Karin Slaughter is always a must read as far as I’m concerned. The Silent Wife is gory, gritty and that end ... I didn’t see it coming and I ALWAYS see it coming - brilliant.

All the old faves are in this Will and Sara (obviously), Faith, Amanda, Lena etc etc but the Silent Wife revolves around an old case originally worked eight years ago by Jeffery and Sara so chapters alternate between the present day case and the original case eight years previously. Which means of course, a great helping of Jeffery Tolliver and his smoulder. I love Will Trent as a character, he’s complex, loyal and just all round fab but smouldering... No, that’s definitely Jeffery’s domain.

Highly recommended, read it if you enjoy edge of your seat stuff with more than a small helping of gore. Thanks to Netgalley for providing an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely loved this book from start to finish. I really like Karin's style of writing and the dynamic between Will and Sara. Her descriptions of incidents bring everything alive and in some instances you need to have a strong stomach!! Fantastic book and a definite'must read'.

Karin Slaughter is the undisputed queen of the investigative crime thriller. And for good reason. Her stories snag you from the get go, slamming the door on the rest of your world, gripping you, shocking you, until nothing matters but getting to the end of the ride — in one piece, if possible.

The Silent Wife is everything you’ve come to expect from a Will Trent story. A cold case is reopened 10 years after the event, because new murders, with the exact same MO are taking place, even though the convicted killer is still in jail. Will, the detective, and Sara, his partner and county medical examiner, once again find themselves pitting their wits against a serial killer.

The narrative is split into two timelines, covering the original and current investigations. Slaughter guides you seamlessly from one to the other and back again, as the plot unfolds, gathers pace and builds to a heart-stopping conclusion. There are twists, dead ends, red herrings. The plot is razor sharp and complex — but never hard to follow — thrilling in its intensity and jaw-droppingly clever.

But what really sets Slaughter apart here, as in her other novels, is her slavish attention to detail. Whether a crime scene, a violent act, a mutilated corpse, or an autopsy, her descriptions of the minutiae are so vivid, you feel like you’re right there, a fly on the wall, every sense alert. Yes, it’s raw, gory, brutal, but Slaughter just doesn’t do subtle. And this is exactly what makes her writing so irresistible — this and our own morbid fascination.

Equally compelling are her characters, familiar faces we’ve come to know so intimately. Real people with real lives. People we can identify with and care about. Picking up a new title in this series is like being reunited with old friends. Turning the last page is like waving goodbye and not knowing when you’ll meet again. I, for one, hope it won’t be long.

Wow this book blew me away. I felt every emotion possible when reading this.
I love how the story showed in the past tense and current day. The characters we’re all described in such a way I felt that knew them personally. But the shear horror of what the victims went through was written in a way that made me think about them when I wasn’t even reading the book.
This is the first book by Karin Slaughter that I’ve read and I will be definitely be reading more.

Another great read from Karin. After reading many of her other books I knew I wouldn’t be able to put it down and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. Full of twists and turns - I loved it!

I don't know where to start with this one. Brilliant!

The plot was deliciously dark and seriously creepy. I absolutely couldn't put it down, although it gave me the shivers. The whole storyline was unbelievably twisted, although the story itself was all too believable!

The characters were well crafted and realistic, as were the interactions between them.

I enjoyed this book so much that I immediately bought most of the others in the series. Although part of a series it worked well in it's own right as a standalone novel.

I hadn't read the synopsis to this book before I read it. Karin Slaughter is one of the few author's that I can read in the knowledge I'm in for a thrilling ride.

So, after reading all of the Grant County and Will Trent series I was delighted by the return of Jeffrey even though in flashbacks only. I always felt that as a reader there was unfinished business with him and this book provided the perfect closure. Lena also returned to do what she does best, annoy everyone she encounters.

The story itself was wonderfully written with twists and turns right up until the end. I enjoyed the storyline immensely and really enjoyed the characters progression.

I felt this book really stepped up to the high bar that Slaughter has set for her readers and I look forward to the next installment.

Another outstanding book by karin slaughter, I adore Will Trent and have read the series more than once so everytime a new book comes out I get super excited. This one did not dissapoint, I'm a bit gutted that I incorrectly guessed the perp!! The story itself really draws you in, its a sickening, twisted, gruesome tale of attacks on females which involve a whole host of crimes. The ending was lovely too I really enjoyed it especially after such a gruesome read. Amazing overall
