What a wonderful read, it had heart and left me wanting more. As I have come to expect from a Mallery story I was pulled in from the opening pages and was honoured to witness the tale that unfolded before my eyes. Yet again another fantastic story from this author.
A great story of family ties and bonds shared between cousins. It tracks just how strong this relationship can be too.
Likeable characters who you invest in fully and want to see the best result achieved for all of them.
Really enjoyable read.
I love Susan Mallory’s books and this one doesn’t disappoint! A story of three cousins each with a different set of problems and concerns. How do they interract and help each other through? An insightful but not too exhausting read. Enjoy!
Unfortunately I was unable to get in to this story and had to put it down, however, I'm sure it is a highly loved book and appreciated by the right readers.
I do love books by Susan Mallery she is one of my all time favourite romance authors.
This book follows three female cousins, Sophie, Kristine and Heather. They are all completely different and are also at different paths in their lives.
Sophie, is the big business woman, she owns her own business and she has been burnt out by people more often that not. She is a control freak and struggles to let go. Throw in sexy Thai Chi instructor Dugan and he makes her rethink a few things. Is she able to let go and allow others to make her business thrive or is she going to keep poking her nose in?
Kristine is a mother of three boys and wife to Jaxsen. The thing is her being a mum isn’t fulfilling all her dreams anymore. She wants to lease the bakery in town and make her small business she has running out of her kitchen bigger and better. Problem is her husband isn’t too keen and trouble is ahead for this couple.
Heather is the youngest cousins at 20. Her mother Amber is someone that always find things to moan about. She is never happy and Heather has been putting he own happiness aside for the sake of her. Well not anymore.
Sophie returns to Blackberry Island with her business and the cousins start to see more of each other. They support one another through the ups and downs and find strength not only together but for themselves.
I really enjoyed this book. It wasn’t as good as others of Susan Mallerys books but still thoroughly enjoyable. I liked Kristines character the best and her sass As well as her strength. I feel that If it was more focused on one of the females rather than all three we would have appreciated the characters more especially Sophie’s story!
I still thoroughly enjoyed the story the characters and the sexiness that is Dugan. Also the bonus was the cat’s!
Loved this nicely written, heartwarming read. The characters stayed with me long after the last page.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Lovely heartfelt book that leaves you with a lot to think about. It was well written. Easy to read. Delving into familes and relationships and how they effect our lives in one way or another
So perhaps this intended as a story for female entrepreneurs to not lose sight of family and friends - to not get too engrossed in your business? Or not a morality tale at all? The reader must judge for themselves.
BlackBerry island is another of those mythical small USA places where everyday knows everyone and it's all good. Part of the American mythology. Do I sound cynical? Maybe. I just don't believe in them and find too many authors do.
Initially I failed to see the added value of Clandestine Kitty until they started adding unique touches. My guess is that the Internet is less widely used in America than England where Amazon and a host of online retailers can provide direct from manufacturing to users.
But a nice read despite the above.
A nice slow paced easy read, uncomplicated and non taxing, it’s pleasant and the characters are sweet. I would have liked a bit more from the story but it was nice enough
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
Sisters by choice. Tells us the story of three cousins. Sophie,Kristine and Heather .All three are at a cross roads in their lives. Can Sophie learn to take a step back and let her staff do the job she pays them for? Kristine is a mom to three boys, for a long time she has dreamed of owning her own bakery. Is she brave enough to follow her dreams? Heather dreams of escaping Blackberry Island and escaping her controling mother. Can she break free from her mother? A big theme in this book is family. I did find myself getting very annoyed with one character, Amber in particular, oh wow that woman didnt have a likeable bone in her body. The way she treated her daughter. Had me shouting out run Heather as fast as you can. Loved the character of Dugan what a nice guy.
Another great read by Susan Mallery.
I voluntarily read this ARC for an honest review
All thoughts and opinions are mine
I've read quite a bit of this author's work so was thrilled to be able to read this ARC
This is Susan Mallery at her best - I loved this - couldn't put it down
highly recommend
Sisters By Choice is the next installment in the Blackberry Island Series, but it can be read it as a standalone story.
It tells the story of three cousins who are like sisters.
When Sophie's business burns to the ground she needs to start all over again so why not in her homwtown of Blackberry Island.
Once there she is able to pick up where she left off with her cousins Kristine and Amber.
Kristine is a stay at home mum who has dreams of opening her own bakery, whilst Amber and her daughter Heather are struggling to get by and are soon to be homeless.
Sisters by Choice is a great read and is Susan Mallory at her best!
Sophie is back on Blackberry Island after her business literally goes up in flames. She has returned knowing she has family there to help her out.
Kristine has put everyone else first for years, and now she wants her chance, but will her family support her?
Heather can't wait to leave the Island, but her mother is trapping her. Will working with Sophie give her the confidence to leave at last?
I liked how it is told from their different points of view, and it was easy to keep up with the different story lines.
Sisters by Choice is the newest release and forth installment in the Blackberry Island series but can be read as a standalone which is what I have done.
It’s a thought-provoking novel with realistic characters with true to life issues to overcome. Full of heartwarming and charming moments, even though there was a lot going on in each of the women's lives, it was still quite humorous too.
There are three main characters within this book and I loved the dynamic between these cousins, who are as close as sisters.
The main protagonist is Sophie has to start all over again after a devastating fire burns her self-made business to the ground. As a character she is a little overbearing but her rougher edges begin to smooth as she becomes more self-aware of how unreasonable she can sometimes be. She actually isn’t the smartest person in every room!
Kristine is a stay at home mom who puts her family’s needs before her own. She must break her pattern of always giving in during disagreements with her husband if she is ever to realise her dream of owning her own bakery business.
Heather feels trapped by her mom who had her when she was barely an adult herself. She works herself almost to breaking point to look after everything while her mom is happy to take handouts and complain. Will Heather be able to break free from the constraints of looking after her mom and get to college?
Kristen was my favourite character and I loved that she was wanting more for herself and wouldn’t back down when her husband was being pig ignorant.
As the saying goes: You can’t choose your family! Three cousins, Sophie, Kristine and Heather are trying to navigate the problems life has thrown at them. Sophie has returned to Blackberry island after watching her business empire collapse, Kristine has to make a choice between her career and marriage and Heather is trying to save some money so she can reach her goals but every time she does save some her mother needs it. During one done these three empires lose their bonds as cousins and friends will help them navigate the most insurmountable of problems.
A gentle story about how three cousins work together to overcome their problems. Beautifully written but I think I prefer Susan Mallery’s M&B novels.
I received this novel from Mills & Boon via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review
A lovely story of three cousins, whose lives are linked. This lovely book follows their lives, of what they want to do, follow dreams, change their lives and do something for themselves. Each cousin has their own reasons/issues to deal with as to why things are how they are and how they can be changed. Enjoyed reading this book, full of good times and bad. Definitely recommend it.
