I am a big fan of Meghan Quinn and the Getting Lucky series. I loved the first two books, so I went into this bok expecting to love it, too. I was not disappointed. Reid Knightly is complicated and, he thinks, cursed. But his brothers found their way out of the curse, so you know he will, too.
Reid thinks he is cursed in love, in business, and in friendships. He lost his best friend when his business failed, and falling into a relationship with said best friend's sister, Eve, doesn't seem like a smart move.
Meghan Quinn gave us a complete roller coaster ride here. While there is some drama and angst involved in the story, there is also a lot of humor, heart and family fun. This is a well-written novel that will tug at your heartstrings and give you a very satisfying happily-ever-after.
5 Stars for this laugh-out-loud romance!
Eve has had a crush on Reid forever! But he's her twin brother's best friend and that makes him off-limits. Reid and Eric open their dream restaurant together, but when their manager runs off with their money, they have to close the restaurant before it even really gets going. And along with the restaurant dying, so does their friendship. While Eric stays in Boston and continues to work as a chef, Reid tucks his tail between his legs and goes home to Port Snow and becomes a crab fisherman vowing that he will never cook again. Three years later, Eve and Reid share a night together that turns into more ... after all Reid and Eric are no longer friends, so they are no longer off-limits. But when an opportunity of a lifetime comes up, will Eve and Reid's relationship flourish or fail?
I just loved this book ... it is soooo funny! Reid has such a potty mouth ... I love it! And Eve is just so sassy right back! Ms. Quinn makes you feel like you are right there in the room with them. The banter between the characters is just so realistic. And then there's the steamy scenes ... WOW she sure knows how to write them! I love the way the gossip flys around Port Snow ... I grew up in a small town and it really is just like that ... everyone knows everyone else's business. This whole series has just been excellent and I can't wait for Brig's book.

I love the authenticity and intimacy of a close knitted community and family that small town romance portray. It was a delight to go back to Port Snow, one of my favorite place, in That Secret Crush . The third book in the Getting Lucky series brought us Reid and Eve’s friends to lovers’, best friend’s sister romance. Their heartfelt story was filled with heartache, sweetness, laughter and most importantly love.
Reid and Eve complimented each other so well. Reid was a little damaged after the failure of his dream restaurant. Eve was patient with his varying mood and always tried to lift him up. I loved that their connection and relationship was genuine and natural. They practically grew up together and shared so much memories both good and bad. Reid’s stubbornness had cause Eve some heartache. Luckily, he finally manned up and determined to win the girl.
Reid’s unfiltered mouth and the candid exchanges of Knightly siblings brought so much laughter to the story. The togetherness, love and support of the Knightly family was one of my favorite parts of the series. Only the Knightly family could pull that fabulous grand gesture at the end in such short notice.
I thoroughly enjoyed this friends to lovers, best friend’s sister romance that was filled humor and heart. If you are looking for a well written and plotted out read that would pull on your heartstrings, don’t miss out on this!
You can't help but fall in love with these Knightly brothers! That Secret Crush is Reid & Eve's story and it's a heartwarming, sometimes heartbreaking; hilarious and sexy read. I had a feeling Reid would have no boundaries and I was right! As the title implies, Reid had a "not so secret" crush on Eve and Eve had a "no so secret" crush on Reid. I love these small town romances especially when the author does such a fantastic job of describing Port Snow -- I don't know if it really exists, but if it does, I want to go there. The relationship between these brothers and their mutual love and respect of their parents and friends is so very refreshing and enjoyable. I love this series and I have to say, since I read the first book, I have been waiting patiently for Brig's story! I so hope that his is next! Another 5+ star read. I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC for NetGalley.
Siiiiigh... just finished this book and I couldn’t be more in love with the Knightly brothers, Port Snow and all the people living there 🥰
I’m a total sucker for small town romances, and I’m so in love with this city, I look for it on google maps every time I read a book in this series! That town is fiction, let me save you from looking for it 😬
The third book in the Getting Lucky series brings us Reid and his story. As the title reveals, he has a secret crush. On Eve, twin sister on his best friend!
But how does the best friend react, when he knows what’s going on?!
This book has all the feels, heartache, love, sexy ness, swooning and humor you expect in a Meghan Quinn book!!
I kindly received an arc from Montlake through Netgalley and voluntarily left a review
Omg this book gave me all the feels! It was my first Meghan Quinn book and I'm getting ready for an author binge right now!
That Secret Crush is the 3rd instalment in the Getting Lucky series of which I haven't read the others that came before it. You really don't need to read the previous ones to enjoy this book it's fabulous in its own right.
Reid feels that he has lost everything after he and his business partner Eric, had all the money from their Boston restaurant stolen from them and has to come home with his tail between his legs. To keep himself a float he works catching lobsters for the local Inn and working at his families business. Since he was younger he had harboured a crush on Eric's twin Eve which he didn't know that shes been crushing on him all this time too. The 2 are still friends even after the bad blood that went down after the restaurant failure and Reid is there for Eve when she needs him most. The 2 end up pursuing a relationship that has its fair share of ups and downs. It doesn't help when you live in a town where everyone knows you business.
This book had me laughing from the get go. I love the banter especially between Eve and Reid and the Knightly group chat. I was routing for Eve and Reid and was gutted every time Reid fudged it up! The romance was well written and I loved all the drama that came with it. Reid is a complex chap but Eve pushes him to reach his full potential. I loved his wit and humour which he uses alot to deflect from his feeling. I didn't want to put this one down. The story line never felt forced and it just naturally flowed. I am definitely looking forward to reading more by Meghan Quinn.

That Secret Crush was a wonderful addition to the Getting Lucky series! I just can't get enough of the Knightly brothers and the town of Port Snow. And Reid and Eve's friends to lovers / brother's best friend story was just a delight to read about. Neither one of them wanted to hurt Eric (Eve's twin brother), but the feelings between them were just too strong to ignore. That night of the blizzard, they were both able to finally admit things to the other and finally break out of the friend zone - and oh boy did they create some heat on that cold winter night! Things after that weren't easy by any means, as Reid was still dealing with some issues from his failed restaurant...…and they wanted to keep their relationship from Eric. But when Reid gets an offer from his father to start a new restaurant in Port Snow - with Eric - things get even more complicated for them.
Overall, this story was light on drama, but had plenty of the humor (those text messages between the siblings!!) and romance that we have come to love from this author - and this group of characters. And now that Reid has found his perfect match, there's only one brother left that needs to break free from the curse - Brig. After getting to see more of his lovable personality in this story, I sure hope we get to see him find his happily ever after.
Welcome back to Port Snow, where the Knightley family rules... well, all except one. Reid. He considers himself the black sheep. The screw-up. The failure. Of course, he is the only one who thinks that. And Eve is there to help him see his worth, that is if he allows her. She's his best friends twin sister whom he's known since childhood, but she's also off limits. While part of a series, each book can be read as a stand alone. (Each features a different brother.) Reid is his own breed of man. While he may come across as confident and a bit brass, he also has extreme self loathing and after a failed attempt at his dream, feels lost in the world. This book is him finding his way and overcoming that failure and moving on, growing. With Eve and her never ending patience at his side. There are laughs, and there are tears. This story doesn't have just one heart breaking break-up but several. He really pushes Eve's limits, but how far can he push before she breaks? As I mentioned, there is some humor, but it's got a more serious vibe to it. It's well written, the characters are written beautifully. Our time in Port Snow is almost over as the brothers, one by one break their love curse.
*I received an ARC from Netgalley.
That Secret Crush by Meghan Quinn a five-star read that shouldn’t be a secret to read. This is number three in the Getting Lucky series and they can be read as stand-alone as I haven’t read the first two but kept up with the story, that being said this was so good I’m going back to read them as I think I have just added another favourite author to my list. The Knightly brothers are just yummy and Reid aww he just blew me away. I really enjoyed this story and the curse added an extra twist to the story, and I love the story as a whole. When you read this story there will be laughter, there will be chemistry and there will be joy. Do not miss this story as it will not disappoint.
I enjoy Meghan Quinn's book. They're usually a fast, light, and somewhat-drama filled romance read. The start of this one didn't really pull me in. I wasn't sold on the "secret crush". It seemed introduced way too late into the story. If the entire premise of the book is based on a crush, really sell it to me from the beginning, ya know? Other than that, it was fine. I'll continue to read her books, but this one was a miss for me.
This small town romance world that Meghan has created with Port Snow in the Getting Lucky Series is one of my favourites, I was looking forward to being back there with the beautifully described settings and quirky residents. Although That Secret Crush didn't quite have the deeper emotional angsty edge that Griffin and Rogan's books had I still loved the book.
That Secret Crush is Reid Knightly's story, one of friends to lovers with the added complication that the heroine Eve is his best friends twin sister. We know from previous books in the series that Reid has some serious hang-ups, and he was a professional chef before he lost it all. It was nice to finally get the story behind the man and understand why Reid is the brooding, isolated, lost brother that seems to lack the hope for something more.
When a drunken night in a blizzard allows Reid to let go for once in Eve's company, their chemistry can't be denied and that step into new territory is taken by both parties, one that has been a long time coming! Eve is a really likeable heroine, she is determined, strong, she works damn hard to support others and reach her own goals no matter how long it takes her to achieve her own. She is perfectly matched for Reid, seeing the man he truly is even when he refuses to. She calls him out on his crap and she won't be taken advantage of and I loved that. She really is the perfect person to balance out Reid's hot headed, sometimes self deprecating personality traits.
That Secret Crush has Meghan's trademark humour with a little conflict thrown in too. It was an easy read, one that held it's pace and I think Eve and Reid's story line was perfect for the series weaving into the other books and what the Port Snow world represents. The reason I love this series so much is the family dynamic and I think this book in particular really highlights this. Reid only has Eve and her brother Eric outside of his family circle, he can't talk to Eve because that's who he needs advice about and he is estranged from Eric and doesn't know he is doing the nasty with his sister. So of course Reid goes to his brothers for advice, mainly Brig the youngest Knightly. I have to say I adore Brig and I really hope we get his story one day. He brought most of the humour to the story with his over the top romantic ideals and delusions of grandeur, especially the big moment at the end of the novel OMG I died laughing.
So 3 out of the 4 Knightly brothers have their books, I guess we watch this space for Brig's story *crosses fingers* I challenge anyone to not fall for this town and this family, because Meghan has built a little bit of Magic with Port Snow.
This is the first time I have gotten an ARC of a series I was already invested in. I. Was. Pumped. I adore the whole Knightly family and couldn't wait to see what happened with Reid's story. Of course, as with the other books in the series, this could easily work as a standalone novel. It gives just the right amount of info on the "family curse" that you aren't lost, and also ties them all together.
I felt like Reid was kind of a mystery, as far as info provided in the previous two books. And it seemed like he floundered a bit throughout this story. He definitely needed to grow up. A lot. His immaturity was a bit grating, at times. However, as the story went on, I did end up liking him.
Eve was a bit of a martyr initially. She seemed a bit lost. Luckily she got things together by the end of the book.
The chemistry between the two was great, of course. I was surprised (in a good way!) that Eve kind of took the lead initially. I felt like that was a nice change of pace for the series.
That being said, I wasn't in love with this story as much as the previous two. I was thinking I might give this 3 stars. However, there was a grand gesture at one point that had me laughing out loud, so I decided to give it an extra star just for that. I look forward to reading Brig's story in the next installment!
I have been a fan favorite of this series from the very beginning. As each book in this series closes out, I anxiously await the next siblings book, and I finally got Reid's. While I did enjoy That Secret Crush, Reid's story is not my favorite, but I don't want to start off with my dislikes. So I will start with everything I did like / love.
For starters, this series has an amazing amount of family dynamic. The banter between the family feels life-like, and I have found on more than one occasion where I laugh my tail off. The small town vibe ; I live it, I breathe it, so it makes it a more relatable read for me. The title; it plays a HUGE roll within the story, and what is not to love about a secret crush? For me, I think this author is insanely talented. I find it easy to finish anything she writes all in one sitting. With that said, That Secret Crush flowed extremely well. I love, love, love how the plot was not some HUGE blow up. I loved the whole friends to lovers trope, it made the banter between H and h more eventful, it also made the chemistry that more combustible. THE MAIN THING I LOVED??? The will and the fight NOT to give up.
Now onto the dreaded dislikes. I found it very hard to comprehend the main H. I know, I know you're thinking how can you possibly even say this because no woman can comprehend any man? His thinking process just drove me nuts with feeling so dang sorry for himself, and HE did not want to take the initiative to change his circumstances for like.... ever! I also felt he may have been a little bit too crass for me... AHHHH, please do not hate me for saying that. He was quite the jokester and for me, the joking was a bit excessive.
Overall, this was not a bad story. It is one I would probably read again. Now I am on the verge of dying because I need Brigs book so dang bad.
That Secret Crush is the 3rd book in a series about the 4 dreamy and steamy Knightly brothers from the Hallmark-esque town of Port Snow, Maine. This book focuses on Reid who is a talented chef with lacking self esteem after a business venture gone terribly wrong. Reid will need to learn how to love himself in order to love his long time crush, Eve.
What I loved: 🦞I’m in love with these brothers. Hot, sweet, talented, hard working. They have it all.🦞The first two books of the series had a very slow burn to get to the steam, but this one just jumped right into it!!! I was a little taken aback to be honest, but I realized that Reid’s character is so different than his brothers. He is much more crass and unfiltered. I laughed out loud many times at things that came out of his mouth! It totally worked and he was adorable. I loved his growth throughout. 🦞I loved Eve for her hardworking, independence and patience. 🦞This town is adorable- when can I go?! 🦞 I love the family texts- so hilarious. 🦞 Loved the foodie and chef talk- definitely made me want to go try the food in Maine! (A baked bean sandwich is a thing?? Someone please confirm!)
This book does have lots of colorful language and serious steam- perfect for me- but just an advanced warning if you’re offended easily!!
A HUGE thank you to @authormeghanquinn, Montlake Romance, and @netgalley for this ebook ARC in exchange for my honest review! 😊 I cannot wait for Brig’s story!!
A laugh out loud brother’s best friend-friends to lovers storyline. I enjoyed this addition to this series. Reid is hilarious! His banter with Eve is flirty and their chemistry is hot. You’ll laugh, swoon and root for them through the “curse”.
That Secret Crush is the 3rd book about the Knightly Brothers. Each of these books can be read as a standalone, but I find them more enjoyable if read in order. These brothers were cursed by a witch in New Orleans and she said that they will not find love until their minds mature. They claim not to believe in the curse, but secretly, they have their doubts.
This book is about Reid Knightly. He was an aspiring chef who co-owned a restaurant with his best friend, Eric, until their business manager ran off with their money and bankrupted their business. This coincides with the curse. Now Reid is barely making ends meet, he’s grumpy all the time and he rarely speaks to Eric.
Reid secretly has a crush on Eric’s twin sister, Eve Roberts. Eve has put her life on hold to help others, but she’s struggling to work and put herself through college. She also has a secret crush on Reid. One snowy night, they act on their attraction. It’s definitely not an easy road from there.
I loved this book and Eve was a BADASS. She was so strong and she didn’t take crap from anyone. I loved her. On the other hand, I wanted to slap Reid a couple of times and tell him to man up and get over it. Communication was definitely an issue for Reid and I was glad that Eve held him accountable.
I didn’t really like Eve’s brother and I wished he would just go back to Boston. He was too whiny for me.
This was an enjoyable, heartfelt, funny story. I laughed out loud several times with the outrageous comments from Reid and with Brig’s ridiculousness. I can’t wait to read Brig’s story. I highly recommend this installment of the Knightly Brothers.

Loved this book!!! Great Read! Held me in my seat wanting to read more from start to finish! This book is about Reid and Eve mostly Reid though cause he's got to figure himself out. But What I really enjoyed about this book is the bantering between all the characters. Not only Reid with all his siblings but also between him and Eve it keeps the story interesting and moving along.

Not my first read by the author and i have read the previous books in this series. loved every single one. that said, unfortunately this was not my cup of tea. Don’t get me wrong the story and words were fantastic because this authors knows how to write but the events, let me explain. I wont go into too much detail because i don’t want anyone to think I’m bashing anything, just simply not my taste in hero and heroine.
The hero is actually the oldest of the brothers. he is a man that had it all and lost everything including himself in one night. forwards years later he is now so low on himself that he doesn’t think he deserves anything. the heroine is actually the hero’s best friends little sister, therefore they have know each other since they were 10. she is someone who knows sacrifice and hard work, and always kept going even when times felt hard. when lines get crossed as this is a brothers best friend and friends to lovers romance, thing heat up…you know what they say. if you cant stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. now the reason i was not fond of the characters is because, although they are older in age their actions just didn’t vibe with me. the hero deflects his past and pain with humor and therefore this is a rom-com all on its own and its funny but its just a lot in some sections of the book. the heroine is touch and go 50/50 one minute i am on my toes but then she does something like forgive easy and lets him off the hook. one particular part that turned me off, was the indecisiveness, it was over baring for me. on both ends. i cant say much without giving out the book but that played a huge part to me. all that said, these are my opinions and feelings. when i read i really read with the whole me and what kind of reader would i be if i didn’t voice the truth on those feelings while reading. i hope no one takes it the wrong way because i truly truly love this series, just this was a miss for me.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake publishing for letting reviewers read this book.
Meghan Quinn is really nailing this series. I've only read book 1 and 3, however both have been very entertaining and easy to read.
Reid and Eve are fantastic characters and the way their story evolved, kept me engaged throughout this rom com. Some of the one-liners between them and the family are hilarious, and probably the best thing about this series.
Reid is a talented chef who has given up temporarily due to bad luck in the past. Eve has spent most of her life helping others and finally has a chance to do what she's always wanted. There are some hot scenes, funny innuendos and talk of a certain large member. What else do you need to make you laugh?

Really looking forward to seeing what happens to Brig in book 4.
I really enjoyed this book! It had me laughing out loud! I loved the chemistry between Reid and Eve! This is my favorite book in the series! I would highly recommend this book!!! Then again you can’t go wrong with a Meghan Quinn book!
