I received an advanced reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
This is the 4th book in the twisted fairy tales series I've read so far, but I just didn't enjoy it as much as the first 3 I read.
This book is a retelling of Little Red Riding hood and is focussed on little red and her rudeness and disregard for manners.
The story was a bit flat for me and lacked some umph.
This one is a twisted Little Red Riding Hood story where Little Red becomes Little Rude ans she is actually very rude to everyone. On the contrary we have a very kind Bad Wolf who tries to make Little Rude polite.
It is also beautifully illustrated.
First and foremost, a large thank you to NetGalley, Jo Franklin, and Arcturus Publishing for providing Neo and me with a copy of this publication, which allows me to provide you with an unbiased review.
My son, Neo, and I love reading all sorts of books and thought we would try some of these twisted fairy tales. Jo Franklin has spun the classic tale of a young girl headed into the words with something equally as entertaining, but with a moral that cannot be missed. In a small town, lives a family with a daughter whose manners are not what they should be. She barges in front, speaks out of turn, and is generally ill-mannered. On her grandmother’s birthday, Little Rude is sent to see her, deep in the forest. Along the way, Little Rude encounters a wolf who is trying to get a better hold on his temper. She insults him and continues on her way, finding others who seek her positive outlook, but are left shaking their heads. When she arrives at the party, she continues to be highly rude and insensitive to others, so much so that Mr. Wolf falls back on his old ways. It is only when the birthday grandma shows up that Little Rude sees the error of her ways. But, will it be enough? Jo Franklin does a wonderful job re-telling this story and keeps all the key aspects relevant to younger readers.
Neo felt that the story was a little ‘weird’ for his liking, not entirely sure he can follow how a rude girl does so many things without being shut out from everyone’s lives entirely. He did like the length of the story, as it was thorough, but felt that it went “over the top” in contrast to the actual Little Red Riding Hood version. The pace of the story was quite good and the illustrations were spot-on, complementing the text in just the right ways. Jo Franklin twists the story perfectly, adding a needed moral for all children to see as they read and (hopefully) absorb all that is being presented to them. Neo and I will surely read more of these twisted fairy tales, especially those by Jo Franklin.
Kudos, Madam Franklin, for a great spin on a classic story!
This is the 2nd book of the Twisted Tale I read to my 3 year old son. We really do enjoy this collection. I mainly love them for the twist on the original fairy tales.
Little Rude Riding Hood is a great way to explain to children why they should say ‘Please’, ‘Thank You’ and overall politeness. It was great to explain to my little one why she was being rude and for him to understand what he has to do. She was known as the ‘naughty’ girl by the middle of the book.
These are brilliant books to read as bedtime stories and for young readers who are just starting out and need to get their confidence up. It’s beautifully illustrated to explain the situation and easy to understand and point bits out.
I adore these books, 100% recommend to parents and young readers.
I really enjoyed this take on Little Red Riding Hood! She is super rude and the wolf has anger management issues. We all need to learn this lesson!
Little Rude Riding Hood, oh how rude you are.
This little girl has a great life and is just rude to everyone including her family. She goes on a trip through the woods to go visit her grandma for her birthday. On her journey there she runs into lots of problems. All that could be avoided if she was just nice.
It takes her a little while, but she realizes that maybe she should be a bit nicer.
The illustrations were absolutely gorgeous.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Funny story about a rude little girl who becomes nicer after being swallowed by a wolf with anger management issues.
I wasn't a fan of this book, I feel that it wrapped up too quickly. I feel that it didn't explain why Little Rude became less rude. Being scared doesn't equate with manners.
Twisted Fairy Tales: Little Rude Riding Hood by Jo Franklin is a story with a fun little twist on the classic that we all know. Little Rude is just like you would expect her to be based on her name and she knows just how to irritate the whole town as well as the inhabitants of the forest. When she even does her best to ruin her grandma's birthday party, the unthinkable happens: she has to face the consequences of her actions when the wolf, who tried so hard after his anger management classes, reverts to his old self for a moment. Will grandma's birthday turn out alright or will it be the worst day of her life?
This little book put a fun twist on the old classic and along with beautiful illustrations teaches children that all actions can have consequences, even though they might not happen right away. But it also shows them that with a little bit of effort, it is possible for someone to change for the better as well (come on, if a wolf can become better (mostly) after taking anger management classes, then we all can);.
This reminds me of the fractured fairy tales I loved on television as a child. I would probably save it for when children are six years or older. There is a lesson to be learned. The pictures are fun.
A cute version of little red riding hood, short enough to read to a class in one sitting. Suitable for 4-7 year olds with a nice message about being polite.
I was lucky enough to read another Twisted Fairy Tale and this time it was Little Rude Riding Hood by Jo Franklin via Netgalley. These books are highly entertaining and this particular one actually gave a message at the end of the story and I preferred this to the original. I found myself as an adult totally enchanted by it and in some parts I was laughing. Again the illustrations were of a very high standard and I wish that when I was a child I these type of stories. I have no doubt in my mind to give this book 5 stars.
A great story aimed at younger readers...perfect addition to any book collection. Easy to follow text and storyline with a heartfelt message. A lovely story to read at home or in an educational setting. Clear layout and concise illustrations.
Absolutely loved it! Kids will enjoy these Twisted Fairy Tales! I hope they are going to write more of these twisted tales.
Too cute and a great way to express the need for good manners. I’d recommend it to parents/those in a child’s life who still read to the child and children who are able to read themselves. Very cute book!
A fun twist on the classic Red Riding Hood story for young children. Rude Riding Hood is rude to everyone she meets on her way to Grandma's house, but her rudeness leads to trouble. In the end she learns her lesson and everyone is happy! The story was simple but fun.
A new lesson to be learned from a classic tale. Cute illustrations. My kids loved it and learned something (I hope) along the way!
Folktales have long life. They start somewhere in past and persist in collective consciousness.
They change with time but their soul stays same.
This is such tale which is retold in this book with a new twist.
Story is dimple, readable by kids easily with simple vocabulary.
It is written in a very interesting prose.
Illustrations are very vivid, gracious and carry story to new level .
I liked the character of woodcutter.
An enjoyable tale with a message to kids about need of respecting others.
Thanks netgalley and publisher for review copy.
This was a wonderful children’s story modernizing the tale of Little Red Riding Hood.
Our protagonist is a little girl who is seriously lacking in manners. So much so that she is known as Little Rude Riding Hood. Little Rude has an eventful trip to Grandma’s house - getting lost in the forest, getting scratched from brambles, having to wade a cold river and losing her treats for Grandma, and eventually crossing the big, bad wolf.
This story was a wonderful tale full of moral lessons and laughs.
I just reviewed Twisted Fairy Tales: Little Rude Riding Hood by Jo Franklin. #NetGalley
A twisted fairy tale, this one is. But a bit exaggerated rudeness of a girl, who happens to have nice parents and kind grandma. It's a good read and reminder that we ought to be polite in a society.
