This is a very important educational book to read to kids to get them to understand how precious animals from all different parts of the world are to us. Many of these amazing creatures are becoming extinct because of human mismanagement like destroying the animals habitats for example. This book shines a beacon of light upon the animals found : in the dry savanna, the coral reef, the Arctic, the evergreen forest, the open ocean and the tropical forest.
It details the animals homes and how they adapt to their lives where they live. It is also a wonderful awakening to the readers as to why we need to love these animals more than ever before before they are gone forever and we are unable to do so.
The author cites 50 reasons why we should care and what we can do to help these creatures survive so we can enjoy them for many, many years to come. "50 Reasons to Love Animals" would be a lovely addition to a classroom or elementary school library. I highly recommend this book.
This easy and bright nature/conservation primer takes us to all the main environments of the natural world – savannah, coral reef, the Arctic etc, and gives us three attractive dioramas at each. Scattered across this are the relevant animal names, and fifty short sentences telling us in very clear and obvious way why these animals have evolved to be remarkable and worth conserving. Each spread also gets an introductory paragraph, while rosettes here and there tell us what to do at school or as homework to get actively engaged with looking after nature. Some of these are a little blunt and unhelpful (telling us to observe World Elephant Day, without saying at all when that is, etc), but the whole book is in the right spirit – easily showing the young student what many diverse things have got that makes them stand out. I guess you could say then that this is the usual lookist, sort of Big Five-supporting environmental text, when the truth of the matter is that all animals of any size, prettiness and rarity will probably need a helping hand the way we're going, and not just the most photogenic, obvious examples. It also needs a one-page introduction to tell us about evolution to show us why these superlatives are that way in the first place, but on the whole this is a fine purchase for a school library, and it's a most successful book. Four and a half stars.
Did you know that Gizzly Bears are as fast as a race horse?
If you didn’t know that fun fact this is the book for you. 50 Reasons to Love Animals by Catherine Barr is a stunning book for children. It’s a shame people have moved away from buying non fiction books as this would be a highly valuable resource for any young reader.
The book takes children on a journey through a large variety of habitats including a savanna, coral reefs, forests and oceans. Each page features a breath taking illustration of the environment and animals that live there with information in simple easy to read language. A highlight of the book is the ‘Show your Love’ section where readers are given ideas on how they can do to show their support.
When climate change and the environment are front and centre topics now, it is so important that we have these discussions with our students and children. They need to be aware of what is happening to the habitats and the animals that live in them. This book presents the information easily and beautifully and provides simple and easy ways in which they can help no matter what age you are.
I would highly recommend this book be added to any book self or library collection. I will be purchasing this book when it is released.
N.B Australian teachers and educators, this book would fit perfectly into studies of animals and habitats.
Thank you Netgalley and Quarto for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Really cute, quick illustrated book. Animals name next to it. Some information and the number in the separate square. Nature and animals introduction.
LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! What a beautiful book, not just in illustrations but also in the message! I adore the fact that the book has different species, habitats, behaviors, and fun facts. It really opens the world of animals to children, more than just lions, tigers, and bears. I especially love how different conservation messages can be seen throughout the book and how it encourages the reader to keep learning about animals. I definitely will be sharing this book with others!
50 Reasons to Love Animals by Catherine Barr is a fun educational book for young readers. This book looks at animals all over the planet and gives fun educational facts about each. This book would be a great resource for elementary teachers and would make a lovely gift for any child. I loved the fun illustrations.
This was filled with lovely and detailed illustrations. It covered a variety of animals and places that they live, such as the ocean, forest, and polar regions. The facts shared were enjoyable and easy to understand, as were the blurbs about each environment. The conservation tips scattered throughout were wonderful as well. I received a digital ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
What a delight! I love that there are suggestions for things children can do to help the animals described within these pages; one of the most frustrating things about being a child is the feeling that you are powerless or unable to affect change. This book will encourage budding naturalists (and I have a few in mind who will adore this!)
