OMG - this was amazing. I cannot wait for this series - the characters I loved and just the story so far. So excited to see where this goes. LOVED IT

Crescent City – Sarah J Maas (Extract Only)
I was extremely excited and lucky to get an advanced copy of an extract of this book from the publisher.
Now I’ve read Sarah J Maas’s previous series namely, “A Court of Thorns and Roses” as well as her “Throne of Glass” series.
Typically, Sarah J Maas writes a lot of YA Fantasy stories however, “Crescent City” is her first foray into the adult fantasy world.
This is one of the books due to be released next month that is on my wish list and after reading this extract, it certainly hasn’t changed anything.
In “Crescent City” we follow the story of Bryce Quinlan, part human and part fae, stuck in a dead-end job but doing what she can to make it from day to day, in a world where humans, fae, witches and many other supernatural entities co-exist in peace, well at least for the most part.
Bryce’s world is suddenly torn apart when she comes home from a night out to discover her best friends and room mates have been brutally and graphically murdered. Now her one consuming desire is to see them avenged.
I’ll be honest, it took me a couple of chapters to get into this story but once I did, I was loving the story line and found myself becoming (well I still am) invested in the characters especially Bryce.
I can’t wait to get my hands on the complete book and discover Bryce’s fate.

I judge books by how it take them to capture my attention. This one did straight away, that is a good thing. It is a refreshing setup of a mythical and fantastic creatures Fabula in an urban environment. And I liked the links with old technology and artifacts - I loved the idea of the gates. The writing paints an excellent picture of, and I experienced each scene quite vividly.
Now the things I did not like that much: too many names and information dropped in the first chapters, and at the same time the story evolved at a painful slow pace. And what is this thing with heels?
Finally chapter 5 came and things started to happen. Where this book is going is a mystery still and because I see people enjoying this book greatly and I will give it 3⭐ to start with.

Wow. I didnt know what to expect, as I purposely haven't read any synopsis or spoilers for this new Sarah J Mass masterpiece yet.
The first 5 chapters were incredible. I was a bit confused at first because there's a lot of characters and types of people (fae, angels, venir, shifters....) mentioned and there's not much explanation.
I would definitely read the whole book, but based on these chapters, I'm giving it 4 stars.

Absolutely loved it!! - can not wait for the book to be released! - part of me wishes I hadn’t read the snippet because now I feel impatient, but I know the book will be amazing and totally worth the wait!

I have mixed feelings about this. The prose was heavy for me. It's good so am gonna go with a 3 and I have my fingers crossed for this to work for me.

WOW!! The queen Sarah J Maas is back! Sarah is my favorite author, so i was nervous going into this, but i loved this extract and now am so so excited for the book to come out in less than a month!! I have preordered it and eagerly wait now.... can't stop thinking about it and what i just read!!

Very excited for this one!
The sneak peak looks fabulous and I'm sure is just the very tip of the iceberg. I cant wait to find out more!

I requested this for my 15 yr old because Maas is her favourite author. She immediately hid away and devoured every word. She absolutely loved this start to a new series and is now nagging me for more. I'll buy when it comes out and review.

SARAH J MAAS DID IT AGAIN. SHE HAS WRECKED ME WITH ONLY 5 CHAPTERS. I DO NOT WANT TO WAIT FOR THE REST OF THE BOOK ANYMORE 😭
Writing style: I can definitely see the difference in writing. Maas has matured and this book is much more serious and less whimsical as TOG and ACOTAR.
Characters: I fell in love with everyone from the first moment I met them AND I CAN'T BELIEVE SHE KILLED THE WHOLE PACK OF DEVILS IN CHAPTER 5.
Story: Only 5 chapters and I already know this book is going to be amazing and heartbreaking and that I won't be okay after I finish it.
OMG... I don't think the first 5 chapters of a book have ever wrecked me like this... THEY DID NOT DESERVE TO DIE ASDFGHJKL!

I was looking forward to sampling this as I've not read this best-selling author. I'm afraid I found too many characters, too many types of character and just too much going on in the background, before there was any hint of a story. So, I'm three stars as it would be unfair to give less as I know others will love this.

Amazing! Thank you to Bloomsbury Publishing for letting us receive this expert, as it was fully engaging and a subtle entrance into a brand new world by the brilliant Sarah J Maas. The writing was through and descriptive and the excerpt ends on a note that leaves readers hungry for more...

HOLY WOW THIS WAS AMAZING! How will I wait for a whole month to read this? The beginning was gripping, the world-building has a mix of magic, paranormal and technology and the ending of this sample had me crying!

Holy gods!
This new adult world Sarah has created just might be my favorite one yet. Better than Rhysand and even Aelin’s world? Possibly. To be determined.....
True Blood meets Jessica Jones? Sign me up. I’d read anything Sarah writes. I went into this blindly not knowing anything about it and per usual her writing is phenomenal. The cover is gorg and everything I could ask for.
Right from the very beginning there is so many new creatures and characters thrown into our faces. Sensory overload in the best way. I can’t wait to have a hard copy of this to breathe in all the details and scenery that Maas paints.
*Full review to come on release day.

I am not really a Sarah J. Maas fan, but sometimes I wish I were. I've loved a couple (literally two) of her books, and disliked the others. But I wanted to give this a shot and see if it could be another one I enjoyed. Unfortunately, based on this extract, I think it probably won't be. This felt overwhelming, info dumpy, and overwritten. Too much extraneous description and random backstory, not enough action. I lost interest about halfway through and had to force myself to keep going. I was intrigued by the meshing of basically ALL mythological creatures into one world, but I'm not sure it works. It felt like a little too much. I'm interested to see what people have to say once they read the whole book.

Beautifully written, House of Earth and Blood pulls you in from the first page. I'm extremely curious about this new set of characters and can't wait to keep reading it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this excerpt. I was so excited to see this available; it’s one of my most anticipated reads for the year. I’m not entirely sure why, but I got Shadowhunter vibes at the beginning. I’m hooked. I cannot wait for the book to come out.

These first few chapters set up what promises to be an exciting series starter. Immediately, there is introduction of a number of creatures and their characters feel understandable. From what I have read, I'm excited to read more. Roll on my preorder!

I’m already a Sarah j Maas fan so this sneak peek into her newest series (an adult series to boot!) was more than welcome 😁
This was only the first 5 chapters so not really enough to form any opinions but I’m even more excited for the release now.

It took a bit long in the story, for me personally, to get to the part I thought was going to happen sooner (nearer to the beginning instead of the end of the extract) but I’m still looking forward to the rest of the book :)
