Harrani by Caleb Evans was a little strange for me as for a good portion of the novel I didn't really know what was going on but when the pieces started coming together it was well worth the wait.

I found this to be an entertaining little story which never seemed to get "out of second gear" and so many might think this to be a book to avoid - not so. The fact that it does not race along makes it a perfectly enjoyable book for curling up with somewhere snug and warm. You can then drift off into another world, one which has strong comparisons with the way the inhabitants of our world live. I have hopes that the sequel will take Harrani and build a world that changes up a gear or two and perhaps even takes off the hand-brake!
