Teaching someone to eat is a big deal and it is really easy to lose your head over it. I took an NCT course on the subject and then felt miffed to have spent the money when I had already read everything they told me online. Annabel Karmel is a big name in the baby-led weaning field but Weaning Made Simple is probably the best weaning book that I have ever found because it gives information on both approaches. It also features information on allergies, signs of readiness and catering for different dietary needs. It also includes one hundred different recipes, helpfully broken down into wage and weaning stage. I feel like an Annabel Karmel cookbook is part of the armour of all new parents hoping to start weaning but this one is handy because it really does have all the information you need in one place. My one minor quibble is that hard copy is preferable here as the layout is a little confusing in ebook format. Weaning will always have its ups and downs and days where baby will cheerfully knock your carefully made healthy snacks straight off the high chair but books like this can offer reassurance.
Good range of recipes. Can’t wait to try them on my nearly 3 year old. Helpful nutritional information for each recipe. The advice at the end of the book for the first days of weaning is also really useful.
Wonderful book to help with weaning.
I found information abiut weaning when my daughter turned 6 months so overwhelming. Really needed some simple guide and recipes to get me started. It definitely helped me to feel more confident when feeding her now.
As with other Annabel Karmel books, this one is also great. Full of useful information that parents - especially first timers will benefit knowing. I like that there is proper photos too. There is even meal planners to help you plan your babies weaning experience. All the recipes sound lovely. Thank you for the opportunity to review this book.
A brilliant and helpful guide to help parents with weaning. Helpful hints and tips. Would definitely be recommending to friends who have children
I requested this book as I had just started on my weaning journey with my baby and was struggling a bit, I had another weaning book from this author which I found really helpful but this one came recommenced so I thought I would give it a go.
Like I said I was struggling with weaning and was really anxious about it and in ways this book didn't help that, it spoke about all all the different vitamins babies need and what impact it can have on baby in the long term if they didn't get enough of them, this really triggered my anxiety and made me feel worse about weaning, I understand that listing the vitamins and how they can help with development and your babies growth/wellbeing/health is important but to list the things that can happen when baby doesn't have these seemed to me to be a bit scare mongering!
There was some really helpful tips in here though on simple things such as how to cut certain fruit and veg for baby which was something that I always worried about and which first finger foods to introduce, this helped me to introduce these things to my little girl with a bit more ease. There were some good recipes in here however I found a lot of them contained dairy products and there was no mention of what alternative to use or how which is something I have seen in other weaning books and really appreciated with having a baby with a milk allergy, also I found most of the recipes contained for me at least thing that are difficult to source in my little town supermarket and would have liked some simpler recipes, although I have to say the five veg Bolognese was a winner.
Overall I feel this book may be helpful to some parents but in my opinion better weaning books are out there and are more helpful so I wouldn't rush to recommend this one,
