A great book for beginning gardeners. Lots of pictures and information. Could possibly be used as a resource for homeschool as well.
Sadly, I was unable to download this book in time before it was archived and this I was not able to either read or review it. My apologies.
This is one of my favourite books on gardening! It's super children-friendly and encourages young minds to explore the natural world as well as science. It's the perfect resource for families that want to start a garden or add more education-focused activities to include children. I definitely will be looking for this book again when/if I have children in the future.
Not to mention the illustrations are amazing, and I absolutely adored the layout of the entire book!
I received an ARC from Netgalley and the publishers for an honest opinion.
This is a great book for budding gardeners and families who want to spend time together. It is full of great tips and advice for different types of plants that even adults will find useful.
And you don't even need a big garden or allotment to get started, just a bit of soil and space, you can even start from plant pots in the house.
I woud like to use this book with my kids at school and start a school garden. Can't see why Gardening isn't on the curriculum!!
RHS Get Growing: A Family Guide to Gardening Inside and Out is a comprehensive guide for families to establish their own sustainable home garden. The illustrations, photos, easy to follow directions, and explanations are easy to follow and perfect for not only parents to learn the ins and outs of gardening, but to share that knowledge in an easy-to-follow and fun way.
This beautiful guide offers detailed information on how to grow fruits, vegetables, herbs, and other plants in every season. It also offers the building blocks of starting your garden, including how to test your soil. My favorite section is an offering of indoor experiments designed to teach us how plants and ecosystems work, how to make our own pesto with the basil from our garden, and fun projects like making an herbal wreath. It’s excellent for kids of 4 and older to better understand how things work and develop a love for gardening and being a part of making their own food.
We have been growing our own vegetables for years, and still learned a lot from this great little guide, I cannot wait to see how it impacts this year’s yield. My favorite thing is seeing how much more my son is involved this year. Part of this is due to age, being a year older, but he is also loving learning how the little seeds become food, instead of just seeing it as an excuse to play in the dirt.
If you are looking to learn more about gardening (indoors and outdoors) with your family I highly recommend this book.
A combination of illustrations and photographs make this an eye-catching instructional book for children and their parents. It clearly shows the ins and outs of gardening and includes Did You Know... boxes, experiments as well as well presented instructions. Chas.ters include, where you can grow, how plants work and how to grow a range of plants, fruits and vegetable.
I will include this book on https://childrenslibrarylady.com/gardening-books/ when I next update it.
Thank you to NetGallery for an advanced copy of the book!
RHS Get Growing is the perfect resource for families that want to start a garden or want to fit more educational activities into their family gardening time. It includes many aspects of gardening, from starting a compost to planting seeds to propagating!
This illustrated guide to gardening will help you find the most ideal location in your garden for plants depending on the sun, location, and rain. It covers different types of soil and how to test its acidity. It shares the differences and benefits of container gardening and raised beds and even indoor plants and how to care for them. There's tons of information on veggie gardening, as well as fruits and herbs and it covers friendly and not-so-friendly insects and other garden visitors.
This book covers tons of little things that you wouldn't even think to worry about like keeping dust off of your indoor plants' leaves and how to garden on a slope or with too much shade or very little space. This book encourages families to get out and garden no matter what your circumstance, from little space to no space or maybe a too shaded yard or sloped yard.
There's tons of information in this book but also lots of educational experiments and how-to's that you can try out yourself! Learn how to start a terrarium and make a flower wreath or learn how to save seeds and grow kitchen scraps! There's plenty of hands-on material here to keep you and your children busy all year long! It even covers what to do in your garden within the four different seasons!
I love gardening and still learned a lot from this book. I think it's the perfect resource for families that want to start a garden or spend more time outdoors. It's full of fun illustrations and photos that will help children understand everything that goes into gardening and how fun and rewarding it can be!
Very cute family-friendly guide to gardening, mostly food but also animal and bug friendly stuff too!
This is a great book for families to use for nature studies or to get started gardening. It's filled with information on getting started with gardening and also with fun science projects to teach kids about how plants grow. Lots of beautiful color photos add to the appeal. I have to say that I disliked the color scheme of the illustrations (similar to the cover) and felt that it detracted from the book. That seems irrationally picky on my part, but it is what it is. Other than the strangely off-putting color scheme, I really enjoyed the book and highly recommend it. There is a ton of information in this book and there are lots of projects that kids will enjoy.
I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for the purpose of review.

A Special Thank you to Quartro Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
I requested and received an e-ARC of this book from NetGalley and Quatro Publishing Group – Frances Lincoln Childrens in exchange for an honest review.
I am so glad I read this book before this year’s growing season started, this book provides a lot of great knowledge. I enjoyed reading all of the ‘Project ideas’ and ‘Did you know’ sections, I would have loved to try those projects as a child. Before I read this book, I had no idea what ‘bolting’ was or that it could be prevented by watering your plants more often, I wish I had known that when we lived in Ontario! I also enjoyed learning about ‘pips’ vs. store bought trees.
Overall, a great book for starting and maintaining a garden with easy to read and understand information.

This is a fantastic family book to share with your children. It has fantastic pictures and drawings that both children and adults alike will enjoy as well as a fantastic amount of information on all areas of gardening.
The book is broken down into sections which is useful and I enjoyed the science experiments within it too.
A delightful and informative book for any family library.
This was such a fun, colourful, and informative guide to plants and gardening great for kids and families, but also for everyone else who wants to be able to get something to grow. I love how it was divided into sections about different types of plants and how it was so detailed about all the different steps.
The experiments and projects are great for kids so that they can learn how best to grow these plants, vegetables, and flowers themselves and what is really happening. I also really loved the end of the book where it talks about what you can be doing in your garden every season of the year.
There are great parts of this book for everyone and I think it will be a great addition for any aspiring gardener.
Let me start with the cover, not my favorite and does not do justice to the book,
This book is AMAZING! So many tips of how to grow all kids of plans, herbs, veggies, inside, outside. I see us going back again and again to Implement these tips. The layout and pictures are great, very well explained. I would certainly recommend it to everyone!
