Remember back in the day, when you rushed to get an album without hearing even one song? That’s how I feel about a new Boland novel. Have to have it. Have to move to top of my reading pile. One of Us is Lying is now my favorite so far. As usual, it starts with a bang, surrounds a group of fascinating women and ends in a completely unexpected way. Told from all three perspectives, these women feel real and topical. The plot is surprising and I felt myself humming along in the final few chapters.
A twisty, fast read about 3 friends who are each going through their own personal troubles. They don't realize how closely connected their troubles are until the unexpected, expolosive ending. Highly recommend!
Tia, Kelly, and Fiona have been best friends since childhood. Now, they have families of their own and everything seems to be going well for them...until one day when Tia’s young daughter, emotional and crying, asks her why she killed someone. Tia has never done that, and from here things in each woman’s life take a turn for the worst.
I love author Shalini Boland so much, and am always a huge fan of her books. She manages to write fast-paced reads with wicked twists and interesting characters. This was a good read too, but not as much of a page-turner as her previous books have been. It’s not a problem though because I think what she succeeded at is delving into the lives of her characters and making you care for them and their stories, so the build up to the end was more subtle. I’m looking forward to her next great read.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for an ARC.
Three friends Fiona, Kelly and Tia are being harrassed by someone...but they are each so ashamed they keep it to themselves. As the story progresses there are hints as to who this may be and it all comes together at the end. I have read every single one of Bolands books and have loved them all. This one is no exception. She has great writing style and character development..and most of all...her stories are very unique
5 stars! I love this book.
As usual, Shalini Boland doesn't disappoint with another gripping thriller. It was good to get to know the characters and their lives and how they relate to one another. Will continue to read this author.
This is my 4th book by Boland. She writes quick thrillers and this one is no different. I liked this book and the different character perspectives and how it wall tied together in the end. I wasn't sure how it was all going to be connected so it had a good amount of suspense. It was three, seemingly completely different stories that became tied together at the end. The ending was believable wasn't just a dumping of the answers to all your questions. I liked that the last chapter was a few months later which helped to solidify the story.
I’m a massive fan of Shalini Boland and I’m proud to say I’ve read all of her books and they are all very much an addictive and gripping read!
One of us is lying is just that, it had me immediately intrigued from the first chapter and I really enjoyed the way the story unfolded and was told between the three friends points of views- who are all hiding secrets, but would they betray a life long friendship with each other??
Read and you will find out, you won’t be disappointed.
A big thank you to Netgalley and bookouture for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I’ve loved all of Shalini’s books and this one is no exception, it’s brilliant! All the characters come to life, and it literally keeps you turning the pages until the end. I’d definitely recommend
This book follows the lives of three friends who have known each other since they were younger. From the start of the book, the reader is pulled into each of their secrets and keeps you wondering who and why is this happening. Another great book by Shalini Boland.
I have been addicted to Shalini Boland's books ever since I read the first one. The books are typically quick reads that keep my attention throughout. They always seem to have great plot twists and surprises around every corner. I will admit, this was not my favorite of her books. True, the characters were likeable, and I found myself sympathizing with Fi, but there was something missing.
The author eludes to something that happened in the women's past, and you can make a good guess as to what it is. Towards the end of the book the reader finds the truth. I did find the feelings of the characters (both good and bad characters) to be valid. I could see something like this happening in real life.
Another excellent stand alone novel by author Shalini Boland. This author always hooks me very early with her novels and this one was no different. Full of suspense and thrills, this is an excellent read.
The novel switches between three friends, Tia, Kelly and Fiona, women who though are all different are all experiencing difficulties. They are all struggling to deal with their issues and their friendship is put to the test.
The book is full of interesting characters and is typical of Shalini Boland's style with it's fast pace and suspense. This is definitely a page turner and a must for all lovers of psychological thrillers.
I would like to thank both Net Galley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to NetGalley, publisher and author for kindly letting me review a free copy of this awesome book. Ms. Boland is definitely one of my favorite authors. She knows how to develop a very engaging story. I love mystery and thrilling stories about friends and their secrets. I am always happy to have a new copy of Ms. Boland's book to start reading because I know I will love it!
Thank you NetGalley for an advanced copy of One of Us Is Lying aka The Woman who Lied.
Loved this book! I don’t know why I haven’t read more from Shalini Boland because the two books of hers I have read, I’ve loved. Tia, Fiona and Kelly are three best friends who share one big secret, however they have many others they don’t share. Someone else knows all of their secrets though and is threatening them, but who is this person?? They get random things in the mail, texts from an unknown number, hear rumors spread about each of them and are getting nasty looks from people in town. Are all of these things connected? And what about Sophie, the young woman who shows up at Kelly’s house one day begging for shelter/help from, what Kelly assumes, is an abusive spouse? While getting further into the book the plot twist was a little bit predictable (I caught myself saying “I KNEW IT”) I still really enjoyed this book and might move on to another Boland book from my TBR pile next!
I enjoyed this book though at the beginning I kept having to look at which character I was reading until I got to know them.
iI was a bit fragmented but it does all come together I do think that the story could of develop more but it was an enjoyable read x
The story introduces you to three friends and tells their stories from their own points of view. They have been friends since school and as the story starts there is the discovery of a suicide.
Kelly, Tia and Fiona have remained friends since childhood and are tied together by friends and events of the past.
In the outside the trio seem to have fabulous lives, lovely family and wealth in differing degrees. Underneath the surface there have been some secrets kept and the friendship has begun to dissolve with the introduction of secrets kept and suspicious raised.
All three find themselves the victim of an unknown person, seeking to do them harm yet they do not tell the others or ask families for help.
I have this 4 stars as although it was a great story with lots of twists there was one part of the plot where Kelly allows a complete stranger who knocks at her door move in with her and her two young sons, as the stranger asks for help. I found this a little unbelievable, although the ultimate ending was excellent and depended on this generosity of spirit.
Would recommend and thank Netgalley for the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.
I have read all of this authors other books and they have all been fantastic. This one certainly didn't disappoint. The whole story line kept me gripped from start to finish.
This was the first Shalini Boland I've read.
It had me gripped from the beginning, I loved the way the story was told & developed with the three main characters.
Brilliant book, as I didn't see the twist coming. This has left me wanting to read more from this author.
A definite 5 stars
This is the second Shalini Boland book I have read, and I am so glad the first of hers I read wasn’t just a fluke good read. I enjoyed this second one just as much. I’m never sure if I will, or if it was just a one-off chance finding. However, this was just as gripping and a fantastic psychological thriller.
It did take a little while to get into and to get to grips with all of the characters. They weren’t easy to warm to as it seemed like they had so many secrets, you weren’t sure who to trust. This somehow made them unlikeable as characters.
None of the characters at first seemed relevant to each other, and you were left wondering what the pertinence or significance of each character was to the story. It felt as if you were reading five different books and not one big story. It is actually only now that I am writing this that I remember the prologue. I’d completely forgotten it and what had happened. I’m like ‘oh that must have been so and so, and now everything makes sense’. So much happened with all of the characters that it was easy to forget things and not bring everything together.
I had started to piece together the story as it developed, so there wasn’t any major surprise or shock.
It was an excellent psych thriller, though; it kept you turning the page wanting to know where it was going and why everything was happening. The events that were occurring were so well thought out, and the story was well developed; it was perhaps just a little too over-complicated and sometimes the heinous events were a little too subtle.
Overall, a good read that will keep you captivated until the end.
Having read all of Shalini Boland’s previous books I was excited to read her latest offering One of Us is Lying..
It tells the story of three friends Tia, Kelly and Fiona each with their own story to tell but also intrinsically linked. From the start of Tia’s story when her five year old daughter asks her “mummy, why did you kill someone” I was hooked.
The description of the town, homes and characters draws you in and makes you care for each of women equally.
How will their secrets be resolved, who is threatening to ruin their lives and why don’t they trust each other enough to confide what is happening to them, all builds to an explosive ending.
I read this book in a couple of sittings as I just couldn’t put it down. Shalini Boland is one of those authors I always look out for as you know you’ll get a five star read.
One Of Us Is Lying By Shalini Boland
This book was a great quick and easy read. I really enjoyed the storyline and liked the characters.
The characters were well developed and easy to keep track of, and the storyline built nicely, with a good level of suspense all the way through.
This is my second book from this author, although I have a few more of her books on kindle. A solid 4 stars from me.
