This was such a fast book to read, but it felt a little bland. I liked that the chapters moved between the three friends, but I never felt a connection to any of them. I thought it was a good read & would be a perfect holiday read.
This is another terrific book by Shalini Boland. It is about three close friends and their families and everyday lives, with twists of course. The women are very likable and relatable, as are all of Boland’s characters in her books. Recommended for a compelling read! Read all of her books!
Love Shalini Boland books, they are always so easy to get into, twisty and full of mystery.
One of us is lying was no different. Tia, Fi and Kelly were friends from school, now grown up with their own families, jobs and their friendship still just about intact things take a strange turn as weird things start happening, rumours spreading across the village, sinister text messages and other random events, someone wants to make life difficult for the girls.
Really enjoyed this book, raced through it.
Thanks to net galley for the opportunity to review this book this is my honest opinion
This book really sucked me in and once I started, I couldn't stop. In fact, I finished it in one day.
This story is told from the perspective of three friends: Tia, Fiona and Kelly.
All three have distinct personalities and all three are experiencing troubles.
Tia is a devoted wife and mother with a wonderful life, until her daughter asked, 'Mummy, why did you kill someone?' Afterwards, she begins to be publicly shunned and receives incriminating photos.
Fiona is a successful business owner with an equally successful husband. Her life is seemingly perfect until two tax auditors show up at her business.
Kelly is a widow trying to raise three boys while doing charity work. One day, she lets a young abused woman into her home to stay. Will this be a mistake?
Why are all these bad things happening to these three friends and how are they connected?
The characters and the story were well written. Was it predictable? Yes, but that didn't deter my enjoy of this book. It was fast paced, and I enjoyed how it all played out in the end.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
A psychological thriller. Surprising twists and turns of three women, Kelly, Fiona, and Tia. Best friends since school and all still live in same small town. Each is being targeted with threats by someone who seems to know all their deep, dark secrets. Ashamed of the secrets they have been hiding, they don't even confide with one another.
Will it be too late?
Shalini Boland is a fantastic author! She captivates you from the beginning and yes, it was another late, late night! But so worth it!!
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the eARC
WOW! An addictive story from an author I hadn’t read before, and it takes off like a rocket! I didn’t just read this mesmerizing book, I inhabited it. The Woman Who Lied is one of those rare stories that grips you until the early hours. It’s a well-crafted mystery about three friends living immaculate lives and dealing with the inevitable emotional and psychological trauma that occurs with a few threatening texts. Tia, Fiona and Kelly form the narrative in this cracker of a story in alternating points of view, each with their own tale to tell.
Tia is horrified when her daughter alludes to a terrible rumor. A few boys at school say she killed someone, an allegation Tia hotly denies. Not to mention a few photos that could easily destroy her marriage. Kelly, recently widowed and with a recklessly bleeding heart, allows a stranger to stay with her — a stranger who is escaping a violent husband. Fiona, impossible to read and somewhat mysterious, is an interior designer who is being audited by the HMRC. An ambitious woman who wants to enjoy her career without the burden of kids, at least for now.
The book hurtles onwards and can only be described as a heart-pounding, page-turning, can’t-put-down, adrenaline-pumping novel. Each character is drowning in a mire of someone’s making and their carefully ordered lives are turning into a tangle they never expected. The book examines the obliterating trauma that comes with keeping secrets and their aftermath.
Each chapter goes back in time to provide the reader with an inviting summary, shaping each woman a contour at a time. As silhouettes begin to transform, it becomes clear that envy sits center-stage, and someone is threatening them. In such a small community, there is nowhere to hide. Dialogue provides a discrete eye into who they are and what they’re about. But the burning question throughout the book is who is targeting them and why is the past returning to bite them? Their lives are irrevocably damaged and things become chaotic in a very small space of time. The pace ramps up when Kelly receives a text to meet someone at the boathouse in Ashridge Falls, Fiona receives a message that intimates Mr Taxman will disappear, and Tia sees a text that assures her the photos will be destroyed — but it’s not all plain-sailing and the ending will have you tied up in knots.
I was thrilled to receive an ARC of this novel. Many thanks to Bookouture, Shalini Boland and Negalley for the privilege of reading this book.
Thank you Netgalley and the Publisher for this ARC.
I loved loved loved this book. 5 Stars! Very hard to put down. This was my first time reading a book by Shalini Boland. I will definitely read more from this author.
Another fast-paced thriller from this great author! Three women who are best friends are suddenly finding themselves in all kinds of trouble with no idea what is going on. Because they are ashamed of the secrets they are hiding, they don't even share with each other what is happening to realize that they are not alone in their misery and that someone is determined to make them suffer. Tia is sent photos that would destroy her marriage, Fiona is facing a tax audit in the business she owns and a stranger that Kelly takes in is more sinister than she could imagine. Why is this happening to these women and why now? And by the time they realize they are all in trouble, will it be too late?
This book is addictive, one of those that you don't want to put down once you get started. You quickly fall right into the story and you find there's never a good place to pause and take a break because you keep wanting to see what happens next! It's an easy to read, breezy thriller that sure, you may figure out long before the characters do, but who cares when you're having so much fun?
Thank you Net Galley and Bookouture for an early copy of Shalini Bolands new book. Of course it was another winner! Her books are just unbelievable, I always get so excited when I see a new one coming out. This one won’t let you down, it was a page turner. I did figure it out before the end but that didn’t stop me from frantically page turning until the end.
A psychological thriller on three friends and their lives and a common enemy out for revenge. The fast pace and the fluent narrative masks the predictable suspense. An easy airport read.
I have read many Shalini Bolands books and always been enthralled by the storylines, writing style and description. She really makes you feel emotions toward her characters and creates a gripping storyline.
This book was no exception. I loved the characters and felt empathy toward them, the injustice of people telling lies and the ramifications that has on them as a person.
A fantastic book with a great storyline. As always I can’t wait for the next book by the author
Shalini boland is one of then authors, that when you see a new book coming out you just know you have to read it. Because you know that it will be great and a quick read because you just wont be able to put it down.
She has this ability to create a world and people that suck you in and keep hold of you right until the very last page. One of this things I love about her as an author is the way she wraps everything up at the end of a book. It's like she does the usual paper but she also finishes it with a bow and glitter. And this book is no different to her others that I have read.
I felt this story lacked as many twists as some of her previous books, as I was able to guess who was doing it etc. And I haven't been able to do that with her other books. But eventhough I guessed it didnt stop the book from being fantastic and didnt stop my enjoyment of it.
oh my god this author has a brilliant mind for each story she writes Tia .Fiona .Kelly .have been friends since high school .something happened to one of them and they stuck buy each other .Tia goes to pick her daughter up and she so upset .the older boys calling Tia a murderer . but something happens to each woman this book is an edge of your seat rollercoaster where you just want to keep reading so gripping and twisty
Wow! What a great domestic psychological thriller! This was gripping from page one and didn’t let you go until the very end. So many twists and turns. Lessons on love and trust, denial and acceptance and really who can we trust in our circle. Characters were all beautifully created and woven into the dark reality of life.
Highly recommend! Another top notch book by Shalini Boland. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
Oh I have adored this book! Most definitely a five star book. I literally haven't been able to put this one down. I have absolutely adored the characters in this book, despite continually trying to guess which is the liar. I have devoured this book in a matter of hours and definitely been kept on the edge of my seat. I have loved all the characters in this one. This is my first read by this author, I have already added more to my kindle to get stuck into. Any author who makes it impossible to put the book down, has a remarkable talent in my opinion. I have no doubt this will be a popular book. It really is one that keeps you guessing from the very beginning. My only advice would be, don't start this book at night. I stayed up far too late to finish this one. I have no regrets, this was well worth the tiredness. A fantastic book by an extremely talented author.
This was another enjoyable read from the author. A good mix of mystery and suspense kept the reader turning the pages. This is a book which I would recommend to others.
My third time reading one of Shalini Boland's books and just as enjoyable as the other two. The story centres around Fiona, Tia and Kelly, one of whom was assaulted as a student and now someone is out for revenge. It starts slowly but soon changes pace and I was torn between wanting to see what happened and not wanting the book to finish. I would like to thank the publishers and netgalley for letting me have the book to review and the opinions expressed are entirely my own views and are completely unbiased
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for allowing me to read this Arc.
As always the brilliant Shalini Boland has delivered again! I am always impatient for Shalini's next book and am never disappointed.
I would highly recommend it. It deserves more than five stars.
I love Shalini Boland books so my review might be a tiny bit biased. I found this latest offering a joy to read. I wanted to pick it up, I wanted to read on, I was really involved in the lives of the 3 main female characters, Kelly, Fiona and Tia. The reason I mention this is because I have read books that are simply tedious, ones where I do not care what happens to the characters, and where I have had to force myself to read to the end.
Not so with this book. I could picture the school, the town, the boat house and Salinger's interior design showroom. I could walk beside the women eager to hear the latest in their conversations and I was intrigued by the secret binding them together.
The secret isn't hard to fathom out but neither is it possible to predict what will happen next. How will the complicated developments, threatening to ruin each of the women's lives in different ways, be resolved?
Just how far will someone go in order to exact revenge?
I found the way in which each of the women's personalities led to certain outcomes interesting; the idea of self and how perceptions of ourself can influence our friendships and relationships. And how, when fear and self-doubt creep in, the combination can be explosive!
The ending was perhaps a tad too neat but nevertheless, as someone who prefers happiness over and above gritty and dark realism, this did not bother me too much!
Fans of Shalini Boland and lovers of this genre will greedily lap the book up with pleasure.
What can I say - another great book from Shalini Boland! She’s one of my favorite authors and never disappoints. I’m always so excited every time she publishes a new book! This one is no exception. It has a great story following three friends, who all have their own secrets they are keeping. They come together in an exciting conclusion with a great twist. Definitely recommend!
