this was a really good read, the characters were great and I really enjoyed reading it. It had a great mystery going on and I look forward to more from the author.
Although this is one of a series, it is still easy to get into it and know what's going on. I'd definitely like to seek out more works from this author.
I am really enjoying this series. I hadn't read Val's three books but I plan to now. I've read this author before in the collaboration with J.A. Konrath so I have been a fan for awhile. While I think this could be a stand alone, it would be a better reading experience if you read the first book. There is an ongoing saga surrounding a serial killer that is a major plot point across the books. This one has it's own mystery as well. It's full of action, suspense, and surprises. Sylvie and Bryce have a unique dynamic that is both sweet and full of outside complications.
There is character that I can't wait to see get what's coming to them and I really want to see how it plays out. The ending is satisfying and sets up the next book perfectly. Diana is up next and I am excited to see where things go for her.
This was a second book in the series which I didn't realize until I started it, I didn't read the first book in the series but was able to follow along mostly. It was a really suspenseful book. My understanding is it's about different characters and time period then the previous book. There were a lot of characters I had a hard time following it could be because I hadn't read the first book. But overall this was a great book to read. Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
What a ride. This was a really suspenseful book. Although it is the second book in the series, I didn't read the first book in the series but was able to follow along (mostly). It follows a completely different couple and is set 20 years after the prior book (as announced within the first page of this book). In this book, Sylvie is in town for her twin sister, Diana's wedding and finds the groom hurt and her sister missing. As she tries to find her sister, it is revealed that her sister has been visiting a serial killer in jail (the same one featured in book 1) as part of her work. Bryce is a lawyer who is also looking for Diana because initially he thinks that she's involved in something that caused torment to his family. They end up helping each other, trying to find Diana, trying to figure out who is telling the truth and who is lying and whether or not there is a true copy cat who is trying to replicate the horrible actions of a serial killer (who is in jail). There were tense moments peppered with sweet moments as Sylvie and Bryce's relationship grew. My only thing is that there were so many characters that made appearances here and there that it threw me sometimes. This might have been easier to follow if I read the first book (since one of the major characters in the first book appeared here too, I believe- I searched out the first book to read the synopsis).
I enjoyed the book and will likely be looking to read the first book in the series too. Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
Captive by Ann Voss Peterson. The story seemed very familiar, like I had read it before. The Déjà vu feeling disrupted my concentration and I couldn't enjoy the book. Later found this disclaimer ***Portions of this story were previously published under the title Serial Bride. Captive contains extensive editorial changes...."
If I hadn't been so distracted, I most likely would have appreciated the story more.
Thank you to the publisher, author, and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.
Wow...this book was intense. Such a well written, suspenseful read. I was so hooked on it that I downloaded books 1 and 3... you don’t have to but you’ll miss out on so much tension and fear. Can’t wait for the 4th one to be released. Not quite sure if I’ll be able to sleep tonight as I devoured all 3 books in one night lol
