A page turner from the beginning.
This book had me reading long into the night.
Two characters that you wanted to “win”
Thoroughly enjoyable
Claire and Eva both want to escape from the lives they currently lead so they make a trade and each get on one another's flights. Or did they?
The premise was interesting and I was definitely hooked at the beginning. It was well written and meant it was a quick and easy read. I was interested enough in each character and felt they were strong enough in their own right, with plenty of detail. Reading the author's note about ensuring both female characters were portrayed as strong and intelligent clearly shone through, which is great.
That said, there was some predictability and I'm not sure the story will be memorable enough to stick with me.
I got this book from NetGalley and I’m so happy I was approved as it’s such a gripping novel! It follows two women from very different walks of life who become caught up in each other’s lives. Claire is married to a very controlling man but because of who he is and the power he holds she can’t escape him. On a trip he sends her on she gets her way out when a woman who looks a little like her approaches her wanting to swap places and each get on the others flight! We soon learn that the plane has crashed and the media believes Claire was on it. The novel is told from Claire’s perspective going forwards as she tries to remain hidden. It’s also told from Eva’s point of view in the months leading up to her swapping flights with Claire. I was equally invested in both women’s stories and was hoping both would escape their pasts and find a way to make a new life. There are twists and turns along the way that I wasn’t expecting so this book really kept me on my toes, I felt really quite bereft on finishing it. I recommend this one!
Claire and Eva need to disappear, and a chance encounter at the airport gives them the opportunity. It was told with flashbacks months before one of the flights has an explosion and everyone dies. I liked Claire story, although it was a bit cliché. But Eva's story was boring, and I could not feel sorry for her.
Two women, Eva and Claire, are from very different backgrounds, but they both need to escape their lives.
They bump into each other at the airport and hatch an identity swap that seems foolproof.
But what will happen whey Claire starts living as Eva, and she wonders what she’s really got herself into?
This is a great novel - full of suspense, twists and unexpected alleyways.
Clark writes well and you completely believe in her characters.
It’s a sure-fire hit in the tradition of ‘Gone Girl’ and I’d recommend it wholeheartedly.
Wow! What a page turner, I devoured this book in one sitting. Such a brilliant storyline, packed full of twists and turns, fantastic characters. Loved it, will be highly recommending this to everyone.
A kind of Strangers on a Train for the #MeToo movement. The premise grabbed me straight away, but I found myself much less interested in the half of the story told in flashbacks - although there were a few twists, it felt like I was always waiting to catch up to the present-day narrative. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.
What an enjoyable read! Claire and Eve bump into each other at an airport. Both are on the run from someone or something. Within a short time, Eve has persuaded Claire to swop boarding passes and so, Claire finds herself on a flight to California instead of Puerto Rico. When she arrives though she finds out that the plane she should have been on has crashed. This is the chance to escape her controlling husband for ever. But there's another surprise awaiting her. The story that Eve told her about why she was fleeing turns out to be lies and soon Claire finds herself in danger.
I enjoyed this a lot. Claire is a likeable character and you feel for Eve too as she has been forced into actions she doesn't necessarily want to take. It's a shame that this is coming out in the middle of a pandemic. It would be an ideal holiday read. I hope it does as well as it should do. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Loved, loved, loved this book.
I requested it because the premise sounded interesting and then found I was utterly gripped and couldn't put it down until I found out how it ended.
But that was difficult too because I didn't want it to end.
I loved Eva and Claire and found I was rooting for them both all the way through, I thought their stories were brilliantly written, like I was experiencing all the twists and turns with them.
Thanks to Netgalley and the Publisher for the advance copy in return for my honest review, can't wait to see what Julie Clark comes up with next.
This was a really interesting read. I was completely drawn in by the first few pages and it really makes you think about how small changes in life can have a dramatic impact!
I really loved this book ,one of those that is very hard to put down .This is the story of Claire and Eva two very different but brave woman who need to escape their lives.Their paths cross and nothing is ever the same again .The story is told through two timelines and alternating through the two women so we learn their different stories and the reasons they have to escape from their lives .The story is told so well it is fast paced keeping your attention but for me the ending was a surprise .This is one of those books that remain in your thoughts .Many thanks to the Publisher the Author and NetGalley for my copy in return for an honest review .
I loved this book and how it took the stories of two women and looked at how their lives would be changed by a chance, or not so chance, encounter in an airport. Eva is running away but what from? Claire is the wife of a prominent politician but all is not as rosy as you would think. Her every move is controlled.
The back story of Eva is a great story and is intermingled with Claire's modern day tale. You really feel for both women and want them both to do well, despite all odds.
Claire and Eva are both running from their lives when they meet serendipitously in the airport. Both women are in a quandary and don't know what they're going to do. A solution presents itself to them and they decide to switch places on their flights.
Clare emerges in California after her flight to hear that the flight Eva replaced her on crashed on the way to Puerto Rico - everyone from her old life thinks she's dead which is a perfect way for Claire to escape her husband and make a new start. She uses Eva's home for a few days to get herself sorted, but starts to realise that Eva may not have been telling her the truth. She wonders just what has Eva got her into.
This was an enjoyable fast paced thriller right from the start. 4 stars.
This is a story of two Vulnerable women who are trying to escape from danger. Claire is married to Rory, who has a family dynasty like the Kennedys. However, behind closed doors Rory is violent and Claire is planning to leave him, she meets Eva at an airport and she is also on the run. She tells Claire a load of lies that she believes and they swap boarding passes hoping that both of them can just disappear and never be seen again. But can you really hide forever?
A well written fast paced read, told in dual plots and goes back and forth in timelines, it is still very easy to follow. The characters were both believable and I was rooting for them both! There are lots of little twists and turns along the way too, just when I thought I had it figured out, something else would happen and I’d have to think again. An excellent read.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Hodder & Stoughton for ARC in exchange for my review.
Thank You To Netgalley And Publishers For Granting My Request To Review This Book.
Well, Where Can I Start: I Could Put It Down. It Really Did Grab My Attention From The Start. I Loved How It Was A Story Of Two Women, Taking Their Fates Into Their Own Hands And Turning Their Lives Around. Twists I Never Would’ve Expected And I Thought The Storylines Were Neatly Wrapped Up At The End - Even If It Didn’t End The Way I Had Expected. Fantastic Book
This book is brilliant.
The book is based on two very different women who are trying to disappear.
Claire is married to Rory Cook, a politician who was a kind, loving partner who became abusive once they were married. The Cooks have a lot of power and simply won't accept Claire walk away, can she escape her abusive relationship?
Eva is a woman who has been through the foster system, being let down over and over again. Men lead her in a direction which lead her to become a drug dealer but has she been caught dealing? Shes being followed by a Federal Agent, he wants her to give evidence against her boss but can he offer her protection?
The two desperate women meet at the airport and they exchange tickets. One of the planes crash, did they make it?
I could not put this book down, i was compelled to keep reading to follow the stories of Claire and Eva. The story switches between the two women but its really easy to follow. I highly recommend this book! 5 stars without a doubt!
I absolutely loved this book! I started it before bed and ended up reading it in one sitting, finishing as dawn was breaking! It was fast-paced but still fully developed the characters. Multiple perspectives and flashbacks aren't my favourite but it worked so well in this story. Highly recommend!
Two women wanting to escape from abusive and threatening situations decide to swap identities and plane journeys. This story had me gripped from the first word. It is a tense, thrilling read with plenty of scary plot twists. Once you start reading it's difficult to put down. The characters are strong and courageous, trying to take back control of their lives. The final twist is very poignant.
Highly recommended.
This is a true suspense thriller in every sense of the word! It really lived up to its premise and was an excellent read. I was gripped from the start, and I’d definitely recommend it to all.
An easy 5 stars! Well, this is how you write a suspense thriller! 👏👏👏This is the story of two vulnerable and brave women who want to escape from their world which has become too dangerous to live in. Claire Cook is married to Rory, a family dynasty not unlike the Kennedys. Rory presents a charismatic, charming face to the world but that is not who or what he is. Claire makes plans to vanish but these plans go awry. At JFK airport she meets Eva, also on the run but the story she spins and which Claire buys into is a lie. They trade flights and hopes that this will allow them to vanish from their lives but the Puerto Rico flight Claire should have been on crashes ..... The story is told in dual storylines by Claire in the present day and by Eva in a countdown from 6 months prior to the crash.
The two storylines are gripping and very easy to follow. You feel Claire’s panic, tension and fear which is sometimes so great its sickening and in the pit of your stomach. Eva is lost, she gets herself embroiled in things, her dreams are dashed partly because she’s powerless, she feels unloved and expendable especially when she becomes caught between two equally dangerous options. Both women are very likeable, they’re flawed but who isn’t, you really want both of them to succeed, get away, have a second chance and start afresh with opportunity rather than danger. I really like the Berkeley, San Francisco setting which provides an atmospheric backdrop to the unfolding drama. The story is very well plotted and the pace is spot on and really ramps up towards the end. There is some tension and bumps along the road when you hold your breathe and keep your fingers crossed for both women. There are twists and turns and some of those I most certainly didn’t see coming. The ending feels right although it’s probably not what you are hoping for.
Overall, a terrific suspense thriller which is extremely well written, keeps your focus throughout with characters you invest in. Highly recommended.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Hodder and Stoughton for the ARC.
