Finally - a suspense thriller that lives up to the hype. I just loved this book and read it in 2 sessions. Two women, Eva and Claire, from vastly different backrounds, find themselves at the airport - each one trying to leave behind their hideous lives and start anew anonymously. I won't go into the entire plot here - but they agree to swap identities in order to make good their respective escapes. What follows on is an aircrash - and that's when the story really comes into it's own. I could hardly put this book down, so good was the plot, the characters, the settings and the suspense. Highly recommend it. My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

The Review
On the surface, Claire Cook has everything; she’s married to a handsome philanthropist, lives in a gorgeous house in New York and spends her time doing charitable work. Of course, it’s all a façade, and she’s trapped with a man who scares her, and has no control of her life.

Enter Eva; a woman desperate to escape her own version of Hell where a chance meeting at the airport leads to them exchanging plane tickets, and fates.

This story is told from alternating points of views, and differing points on the timeline. You follow Claire in the present, as she makes her plan to leave, and then as she comes to terms with what’s happened. You then find out about Eva’s past, what she’s really running away from and the decisions that led her to where she is now.
I found this a fantastic way to tell the story, and allow for some brilliant character development. Both characters, although very different, are likeable, despite being flawed, and it’s hard not to hope for happy-endings all around.

This was a very pacey and enjoyable read. I could easily have polished it off in one or two sittings, were it not for an insane amount of children that constantly need feeding or refereeing.

The Stars
Very entertaining, great plot and interesting characters. I rarely give 5 stars, but I see no reason to mark this one down at all.

I started reading this at 6pm last night and finished it at 2pm today. I absolutely loved it. What a page turner! The pace was fantastic; I didn’t want to put this down at all. The story wasn’t in any way contrived, tedious, or predictable - each chapter kept the momentum going and flowed perfectly into the next. I was consistently on the edge of my seat, hungry to find out more. The two main characters - Eva and Claire - were well formed, relatable, and the entire plot was original and a lot of fun to delve into! Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers, and the author for having given me the chance to read this manuscript. It was excellent. I have already started recommending this title to friends and family. I enjoyed it through and through 👍

Huge thanks to Netgalley and Hodder and Stoughton for this ARC!

🌎 Claire lives a privileged life being the wife of a high level politician from a very influential family💰. But her husband is a very different man behind closed doors and he makes sure all aspects of her life are rigidly controlled🙁. Claire decides to leave him secretly and bumps into Eva at the airport, who is also trying to escape her life. They hatch a plan to change plane tickets, but Eva's flight to Puerto Rico, the one Claire was supposed to be on, goes down😮. Now Claire has a better opportunity to disappear, by becoming Eva. But will her old life catch up with her?🤔

4⭐- A really entertaining read and hooked me from start to finish! @julieclarkauthor sets the stage for an identity swop, but tailors it off into a different direction that I got swept up into too. I finished this book pretty fast and enjoyed all of it as a healthy dose of easy escapism😊

What a remarkable book this is, a thriller yes but it has a whole lot more going for it than that and I loved it. The story is told from two different women Claire who is married to a rich, ambitious but cruel man and Eva who after being raised in foster care finds herself in a dangerous situation that she is desperate to get away from. What follows is an amazing story about these two very different women whose paths cross in an airport lounge when they are both trying to escape from their situations and we have twists and heartache as we follow both their stories as they both seek a way to find a new life.
It’s an impossible book to describe without giving any of the plot away so I would just say read it you won’t be disappointed it’s beautifully crafted the characters are very real and it’s got one hell of a plot so what more could you want from an excellent 5 star read and I look forward to reading more from Julie Clarke in the future.
My thanks to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

I flew through this book in one afternoon. A brilliant book for relaxing in the sunshine and I couldn’t get enough of the story. I thought the characters of Eva and Claire were both very well written and I enjoyed the way their lives became interwoven. There were plenty of twists and turns to keep me interested and I would enjoy reading more from this author.

A sincere thank you to the publisher, author and Netgalley for providing me with an ebook copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

This is not my usual genre, I’m more into romance stories and girlie books therefore am extremely pleased and grateful to them for opening up my mind to something totally different.

I enjoyed this very much. 4 stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟

This had been on my shelf for a while and I eventually got round to starting it! I couldn’t put it down after that!
It had all the makings of a great thriller - domestic abuse, deceit, murder, drugs.... it’s all in there. thoroughly enjoyable very much recommended!

Such a fantastic book, you're never quite sure what's coming next, but it also contains two very human stories of how life can take some seriously unpleasant turns. I really loved reading from both the women's perspective. Eva's half was a little more mysterious and so I enjoyed it ever so slightly more, I had no idea how she ended up in Claire's world, and couldn't wait to understand what had actually happened.

The story itself is really cleverly pieced together, which made for such a good reading experience. More recently, thrillers just seem to try and put in cheap shocks to keep the readers hooked, and I'm tending to enjoy them less and less. The Flight doesn't employ any of those tactics, and its all the better for it. At the heart, it thrusts you into the lives of two characters who could so easily be your next door neighbour, and explores their day to day lives thoroughly.

The pacing of the story was pretty perfect. It wasn't so slow that I lost interest, but the slow revealed of little elements here and there had me totally hooked. This could so easily be a one sitting read as it had me utterly captivated. This will truly be a great summer read, and I'll certainly be recommending it!

This book is about two women who have a chance encounter at an airport, both leading very different lives but with one common goal between them - to disappear. I really enjoyed the narrative of this book as it alters between the two women and tells their stories, switching between the before and after of events (no spoilers!). It is a good thriller and keeps you guessing all the way through, definitely had a few moments where my heart was in my mouth as a chapter ended which kept me reading on. A very good and unexpected twist at the end too, love it when thrillers don’t turn out the way you were expecting right up to that very last moment! Very well written and a very good easy read. Perfect for thriller fans and those who like to figure what comes next!

The Flight is a solid thriller that is a very satisfying read. Based around two women who meet in an airport and decide to swap tickets in order to escape their current lives, this is an exciting novel that is excitingly tense in places and builds to an enjoyable climax.

This is a novel to stick with, as it builds the narrative nicely and does deliver some twists and surprises (you’d be forgiven for thinking it is quite a standard plot for the first half, but there are some unforeseen reveals in the second half that add some extra juice to the unfolding events). I was immediately drawn into Claire’s story of escaping an abusive relationship and found the chapters dedicated to her narrative to be very exciting and taut. Eva’s story was a slower burner and developed like a crescendo, getting more engaging and tense as her life and situation unravelled. Before long though I was rooting for both women to successfully escape from their respective lives and traumas.

Throughout reading The Flight, I was conscious that this is a story very much rooted in our modern society (the #MeToo campaign kept coming into my mind) and Julie Clark paints a very authentic picture of domestic abuse, in particular the fear that Claire experiences and the lengths that she will go to escape her husband. Her concerns over not been believed because of her husband’s public profile are reminiscent of the real-life traumas faced by so many women who were finally able to come forward in recent years. Like those stories, Claire’s narrative is one of power and ownership - a strong message of empowerment relayed through a gripping and tense thriller. Eva’s story is slightly less powerful, but fraught with sadness and tinges of self-recrimination. The differences between both characters are vast, but ultimately their similarities draw the reader in and you will find yourself rooting for both characters.

This will be a great summer read (although perhaps avoid reading whilst jetting off on holiday!) and I highly recommend it.

Add this to your wish lists now!!
I picked this book up 10 hours ago and literally couldn’t put it down. It is absolutely brilliant! From the moment you start reading, you are drawn in to the lives of Claire and Eva and have to know whether they succeed or not. I cannot go into details without giving spoilers, suffice to say it is excellently written and progresses at a fast pace, with several twists and turns along the way. A very strong 5⭐️ and highly recommended.

This book was such a rollercoaster! Thoroughly enjoyed it. I finished it in just one day as it’s been on my radar for ages! Loved Claire and Eva - for once I actually liked both main characters! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a fast paced thriller! I’ll definitely be getting a physical copy once it’s out!

I had high hopes for this book and at first I really doubted my choice. I persevered and I’m glad I did. The story is told from the different viewpoints of the main characters, Eva and Claire. They both completely different lives from each other and both have very different reasons for needing to disappear.

The story is well written although for me, it was dragged out somewhat in the middle. I contemplated not finishing this but I persevered and I’m so glad I did.

No spoilers but I did not see the plot twists at all. A highly recommended read. Thank you Netgalley for giving me an advanced copy.
