I love this entire series. Komi Can't Communicate is a solid manga series focused on Komi, who has a severe social anxiety that makes it hard for her to talk, Tadano, who's trying to get through school unnoticed, and their friends.
I like how Komi isn't judged for her lack of communication. The people becoming her friends try to help her and connect with her despite what's going on, and sometimes it leads to funny situations and miscommunication. It's a wholesome series, with a good enduring plot, and cute slow burning romance and friendships.
I'll definitely read this series to the end.
Komi Can't Communicate is a cute, light-hearted, and funny read. The chapters are quick and amusing and I feel like it could be a great book for pre-teens and under especially, since it teaches some good lessons without getting into anything dark or potentially inappropriate. I enjoyed reading it, but probably will not continue the series as it's more of a slice-of-life style comic and I'm more interested in stories that have central storylines and strife. That said, if you just want something light it could be the perfect series for you. I've heard a lot of people say good things about this, so it is a more popular family-appropriate manga.
This was so cute! Our two main characters, Tadano, a shy kid, and Komi, an ice princess, strike up an unlikely friendship. Tadano is shy and finds it hard to talk to people. But one day he is left alone in the classroom with the ice princess Komi. What Tadano soon finds out though is that Komi isn't aloof, she's just really awkward. Anytime someone tries to talk to her she freezes up. The two of them become friends and Tadano makes it his goal to get Komi to make 100 friends. This was really cute and I can't wait to read the next volume!
This is a very sweet graphic novel about a high school kid who helps his classmate in making friends and learning to communicate with others!
I enjoyed the wholeness of this story and loved how Tadano was very willing to help Komi with her awkwardness and there's no weirdness or hatred towards it, just let's get you some friends!
This was an adorable manga about a girl who has trouble communicating with others and no one knows except for this one boy that she develops a relationship with. It was really cute and I can't wait to read more books in this series!
This is a very cute series. Focusing on a group of students and the titular Komi-san, this series is a slice of life comedy with some hints of romance here and there. Nothing much beyond your average school life anime in the love department though. It's a completely cute series, with very little in the way of fanservice and in my opinion could be appreciated by most ages, although older readers may catch a few gags that are harder to notice when you're younger.
Overall, if you're in the mood for something light and cute, I recommend this series. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me an advance copy of this volume for review.

This was cute! I like how quirky and different all the characters are. Komi is fascinating in the fact that she can't communicate with her classmates and yet they all think she's a goddess above them all. I'm definitely curious to see how the rest of the story will unfold and if she'll make her 100 friends.
A comedy slice-of-life manga that follows Tadano as he tries to help Komi make 100 friends. Komi has a problem socializing because she gets so nervous she can't talk, which makes everyone think that she is an ice queen. Everyone may admire and look up to Komi but no one understands her or is her friend, which is where Tadano comes in. He helps her practice talking and introduces her to people... which would probably be easier if he actually had friends too.
Overall this is funny and sweet, but there are some weird bits for me. Like, a girl saying she will be Komi's dog instead of her friend and a character who sometimes says she is a boy and sometimes a girl which I hope doesn't show up in more transphobic ways as the series goes. (It may not be sensitive and is used comedically, but doesn't seem to be written maliciously or overtly transphobic at this point.)
'Komi Can't Communicate, Vol. 1' by Tomohito Oda is a manga about awkward school kids and how tough it can be to make friends when you are painfully shy.
Tadano keeps to himself. He thinks he's awkward and shy until he meets Komi who can't even speak without completely freezing up. As Tadano gets to know her, he decides the one thing to help her out would be to help Komi make 100 friends. What follows is the beginning steps and how strangely that goes for Komi and everyone involved.
At first, I thought this was a concept that would grow old, but leave it to manga to make seemingly mundane concepts fun to read. The art is great and I found myself rooting for Tadano and Komi.
I received a review copy of this manga from Viz Media and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this manga.
This was a good first volume and the series may get better as it goes, however this first volume has not gripped me enough to want to continue
I received an e-book of this graphic novel through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Komi Can't Communicate is about a girl who has social anxiety and has a hard time talking to other people so when a new guy offers to help her make 100 friends she agrees.
Overall, this graphic novel was really cute and enjoyable to read. However the execution is a little questionable. For one, it's a little hard to believe that someone who doesn't talk at all is considered to be this God like person to the rest of her classmates. Kids that age are pretty cruel (as can be shown in this book by the treatment of the main character when he tries to talk to the popular girls) and someone acting different typically means that they would be on the receiving end of teasing and taunts. The other issue I had was when the main character mentions that not only is there an entrance exam but also an interview. So how did someone who can't talk to anyone manage to pass an interview? In the long run its really just a minor thing but it really stood out to me. I think it would be fun to continue with the series and see how they manage to help her make 100 friends.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC of this title.
I fell in love with Komi. Her social anxiety is relatable, but her genuine attempts to communicate are endearing. Tadano is hilarious and awkward. The art style and storyline are excellent. A very enjoyable read that is highly recommended for a teen audience.
Turns out I just don't like manga. Maybe the translation's not good enough but I also just don't like the artwork in general. It's too bad because I've heard so many good things about so many manga.
Komi Can't Communicate takes the shy schoolgirl trope to the extreme, as the titular character can't quite articulate herself verbally, at least face-to-face. Fortunately, fellow student Tadano is incredibly compassionate and intent on helping Komi make friends. This is a warm-hearted start to what appears to be a feel-good series.
Thank you to the publisher and to Netgalley for the advance copy of this book!
This was so cute. I loved the art work. I am getting to love reading Manga and graphic novels more that reading books. They are such a great way to just enjoy some amazing art work. I loved this book. The atmosphere was everything I wanted it to be. I loved the plot and storyline in the book. I loved the characters in this story. It gave me all the feels I was looking for when I started reading this. I highly recommend this author. I loved the writing. I will be looking for other works in the future from this author.
The first volume was a very cute slice of life scenario involving Komi who has some severe social anxiety and communication issues. I really love how this is the current main "issue" in the story, being someone who has dealt with similar issues it was a nice change to see such a story. The art style is nice and minimal, character designs are fairly different, and the short lengths of the chapters make it an fairly quick read. Overall I really enjoyed it, and look forward to seeing how the story develops in future volumes!
I remember that Komi Can’t Communicate was part of the Indigo Preview that I attended last spring, and I also remember that one of my fellow bloggers also highly recommended it (sorry I forgot which blogger or I’d tag you)! Based on the cover, this is not the typical manga that I would go for, so I’m so glad that it was recommended to me since it convinced me to pick it up. I’m also glad because I loved it. Based on the synopsis and the way in which the cover is laid out, I expected a certain kind of story (serious, romantic, a little dark)…but I found that I was wrong!
I actually laughed out loud a few times and found it to be mostly cute! Oh, I was also jealous of how gorgeous Komi is, haha. I was also surprised by how the story in Komi Can’t Communicate was told from Tadano’s (the character in the background of the book cover) perspective. But I found that I liked him too and how his relationship with Komi and other characters developed. I also find that I enjoyed the art style a lot too even though I wasn’t originally drawn to the style when I saw it on the cover. This is definitely a manga series that I’ll continue reading!
While I liked this manga overall, I did have complex feelings about it. I was greatly intrigued by the plot concept and thought it had a lot of potential. I will say that I was surprised by the overtly light hearted slant that the story took. Personally, I feel that I would have preferred a more serious tone or at least a more well balanced approach but that could simply be me projecting due to my own issues with anxiety. Still if I tried to take a step back and look at things objectively, I did enjoy much of the humor and I really liked both Tadano and Komi. I found myself quite invested in them and in their developing relationship. Mostly I thought this was very sweet, kind of cute and would feel relatable to many readers. On the other hand, there were some weird moments that didn't exactly click with me. So, while I wouldn't say this one hit it out of the park for me, it wasn't game over either. There was enough in the plus column that I will be checking out future volumes.
This manga is soooo adorable. I absolutely loved it. Many individuals suffer from social awkwardness or fear. This manga speaks to each of us on a level we can understand. Unfortunately for Komi, she is too popular to stay unnoticed.
I loved reading this so much I immediately bad volumes one, two, and three for my personal collection. This was so much fun and it was so funny. It was really nice to have a main character who struggled with anxiety and communication skills. This also has different characters coming together which is one of my favorite tropes. Can’t recommend it enough.
