Wow why did I wait so long to read this book. Amazingly written and a brilliant storyline - more please
This was an absolute page turner, I was reading late into the night. Geo's son has disappeared and we follow her about 16 months after it happened and the fallout from it.
It brought up things I've never thought about in missing children's cases and what people will do to keep their families together.
Highly recommend
This is a total must-read. I was gripped from the first page - this is one of those books which makes you forget about work, forget about chores and forces you to sit and read until you find out what happened.
The story revolves around a rich couple whose son is kidnapped. A year later, there's still no sign of him, but Marin, the mother continues to look for him by hiring an investigator. Instead of finding her son, she discovers that her husband is having an affair. Naturally, Marin takes out all her pent up feelings on the mistress... Things just go BOOM! from there.
It's an easy read with lots of unexpected twists and turns that's going to be loved by all thriller fans.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC without obligation.
Despite having seen many of this author’s books around I haven’t read any of her work before. That’s about to change. This is a solid thriller with twists and turns that kept me engaged throughout. Recommended!
She was right there holding his hand, she let go for a just a few seconds to answer a call from her husband; he was gone. I don’t want to say too much as I sometimes think it’s best to go in blind! I think this will make an amazing movie and I implore you to read this book!!
16 months have passed, Marlin is in limbo. Stuck in a world where she and her husband rarely speak, going to a support groups, never giving up hope and waiting , waiting to learn the truth about her son .
Over a year later, the PI she hired finds something, but it isn't about Sebastian. It's about her husband.
As further secrets come to light, Marin is a force unleashed, she has nothing left to lose.
I highly recommend this book.
Thank you so much to St. Martin's Press/ Minotaur books and Netgalley for this ARC in return for an honest review.
Marin is a busy working mum out just before Christmas trying to get some last minute errands done. However with her young son in tow it is hard to remember all she has to do and keep an eye on him. Answering a text and juggling bags Marin let's go of Sebastian's hand and by the time she has finished the worst has happened he is nowhere to be seen. He will be around somewhere...surely
As is usual for thrillers I went into this blind but as soon as the story starts a sense of foreboding was felt straight away and then when the worst happened early on it literally sent shivers down my spine. It was certainly a five star start. However instead of keeping momentum the story veers off on a different tangent. Now don't get me wrong I was still interested in the way this detour but I wanted to get back to the original path. Another point of view was added which I always appreciate especially in thrillers however this character as intriguing as they were I was still wanting to get back to Marin's original crisis. Talking of Marin I liked her as a protagonist but I found some of her decisions throughout questionable and overly rash which were obviously made to push the story on but they didn't ring true to me. Also the PI she hired was lacking in many areas however I and others in the buddy read figured out most of what was going on and how things would end in very little time. As with Jar of Hearts I found this an enjoyable read up to a point because I really did look forward to picking it up and if it had not been for the buddy read I would have probably raced to the end. Fast paced and gripping is what I look for in a thriller however this was also predictable and which meant it ultimately fell short.
It comes to something when a book that includes subjects which I rarely care for / read has me flying through the pages in desperation to read more.
Twisty, turny, lies, truths. I honestly had no idea of what was going on or how things were going to turn out and I loved it.
Daaaaaaaaaamn. This is the best thriller I've read in years. I loved every second and can't wait to read more from this author, she's incredible!
5*
I really enjoyed this book. An enthralling thriller, there were lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing.
Definitely worth a read.
This is my first Jennifer Hillier's book and I finished within a day. I love her writing style, not too long or short...
The story is about a kidnap, betrayal, deception and all the secrets entraps within. Although I was able to discern the plot from early on, the story still enticed me to finish it. Characters aren't perfect and neither are we, I admire that. A great read!
A fascinating thriller. I can't wait to read more in this series. Fast paced and kept me guessing until the end. Could not put this one down.
This was an enjoyable read. It has a good pace and it manages to keep things fairly interesting throughout. It is however also a little predictable. I guessed the main twist of the plot about 20% in and for a thriller, that is not ideal, hence my 3-star rating.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced ecopy of this book in exchange for an impartial and honest review.
I’ve never read nothing by Jennifer Hiller before this and it isn’t the type of thriller I usually love, so I wasn’t sure how to feel going into it, but I was pleasantly surprised. Definitely an author I will look out for in the future.
A twisting, fast paced thriller. I enjoyed the author's previous novel so was delighted to be given the opportunity to read this one.
Thanks Netgalley for this. This is my first read by this author and it wont be my last - I loved it! It was everything I love in a thriller and I'm off to discover more from Jennifer
A strong 5/5. I sat up last night and couldn’t put this down. Read in one! What starts off as a missing child quickly moves into a story that spins and turns and takes you down into a dark place. I have read this author’s other books and enjoyed them and recommend you read this. Will look forward to the next one!
I very much enjoyed this book. It has a good story and excellent main characters. I would definately recommend this book.
Wowser what a book this one is....! Truly gripping from page one, I couldn’t function unless I was reading and when I wasn’t reading I wanted to be reading!
Hated the husband and mistress grrrrrr and felt so sorry for Marin and al she went through, the book is really fast paced and has a killer twist!
Loved it; go buy the book!!
Wow what can I say! This had me hooked straight away, an unthinkable subject at times hard to read, but I couldn’t put it down. I did not see the end coming at all, an excellent twist. I loved this book!
Thank you for letting me read this book
4.5 stars
Having read Jennifer Hillier's other book, Jar Of Hearts, I was really interested to read something else from her. And I was not disappointed with this book.
I really enjoyed the pacing of this as it had me wanting to read more.
The unexpected twist towards the end was one that I hadn't even anticipated, which is quite the feat for a book like this, where you might assume that it will go one way or the other.
It wasn't your typical 'child has been kidnapped' story, which is why I enjoyed it as much as I did.
What you think about certain characters the whole way through actually isn't as it seems, which really added to the story and you saw the characters in a different light.
It was a bittersweet ending for me.
And I would definitely read more books from Jennifer Hillier going forward. I'm already looking forward to the next one.
Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
