'The woman standing on the front stoop looked like she'd crawled straight out of the Hudson.'

The opening to The House Guest by Mark Edwards is a good one; curiosity, intrigue, questions. Who wouldn't want to know whose doorstep the woman was standing on, what had happened to her and what the people inside were going to do about it?

In New York? A stormy night? A bedraggled stranger? Why, let her in of course!

Ruth and Adam are house-sitting a property in New York while the property owners, Mona and Jack, are away on a retreat in Mexico. In a moment of compassion for the storm-drenched young woman called Eden, standing on their doorstep, Ruth and Adam make a decision that they will live to regret; they let her in...and she stays.

Eden settles in with Ruth and Adam...and things begin to happen. A strange man stands across the street and watches them; Eden's behaviour doesn't always quite add up...and then Ruth and Eden disappear altogether.

The House Guest is a book where everything seems to happen; a stranger, murder, a cult, an affair, an estranged daughter....It's a good, fast-paced read with an unexpected ending!

The House Guest is a great thriller. I stayed on the edge of my seat with this one. Mr Edwards has earned himself a new fan. Five stars.

I thoroughly enjoyed this fast-paced and very suspenseful thriller. The story had many twists and turns and a great ending. Thanks to Netgalley and Amazon Publishing for providing me with an ARC of this book.

I’ve read a few by this author and loved them so I was excited to get this copy from netgalley. It’s a quick read and flows really well but I began to lose interest around the half way point. I didn’t particularly like the way the storyline went and found it a little tricky to keep up. I liked the twist that the ending brought but for me the middle fell a bit flat for me.

A chilling psychological thriller which will keep you engrossed till the very end. This is the first book I have read from this author, but it won't be my last. Recommended.

Mark Edwards is quickly becoming a favorite author! This ended up being not exactly what I expected and I mean that in the best way! Really enjoy his writing style, twists and turns I never see coming and a satisfying ending! Thank you so much!

I recently read Here to Stay so was excited to read another by Mark Edwards Again, what looks wonderful on the exterior tempts Ruth and Adam, a young British couple to house sit in New York. In love and loving their good luck, they welcome Eden into the home when she tells them she is a friend of the owners who is always welcome to stay whenever she is in town. Oh dear, what an error of judgement. Oh dear, but so glad they did as there is an over the top story that follows. Edwards is a great writer, who knows how to ramp the suspense with distractions and unknown dangers lurking all around. Excellent! Really enjoyed it!

Ruth, an aspiring actress and boyfriend Adam, a would be writer can’t believe their luck when they meet Mona and Jack on a cruise and are asked to house sit in their Brooklyn home. Things are great until there’s a knock on the door.... I loved this despite being a bit far fetched in some of the scenarios. But forget about that, this was one wild ride which doesn’t let up for a minute. The only respite is to put the book down! Thrills and spills all the time and for once I didn’t have to skim read. Don’t take it on a train or bus, you might be too engrossed to get off!

This reminded me a lot of the Gone Girl-esque books that are released lately. It was alright, but not my favorite plot line or scene for the novel. I enjoyed and would recommend but it wasn't my favorite.

To be honest, my initial impressions were not great. The initial premise was just a little too much of a stretch. People letting in strangers on a whim, people not being contactable, and the level of subterfuge and lies just didn’t seem realistic.

Glad I pressed on though! The plot and writing was still very enjoyable with some great twists and turns along the way. A definite page turner.

Very disappointed with this book by Mark Edwards, his are usually edge of the seat thrillers.

I found the concept great and the first quarter of the book had me interested and intrigued. Unfortunately, the book then went off at a tangent and the Author lost me completely, as far as the story went, but also as far as my interest went. The story was muddled, hard to follow and, in my opinion, rather implausible. A very weak ending too.

A fast paced thriller. I loved the depiction of living in an amazing NYC location. I felt like I was reading a movie with lots of action going on. Some unbelievable plots but an entertaining read.
