A chilling thriller. Stranger danger, beware. Fast paced and easy to read. Very enjoyable distraction.

I love reading about cults and I love Mark Edwards’ books, so this was a definite winner for me! I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough on this one; another winner!

This started so well - a house guest who can’t be all she seems to be. It quickly becomes apparent that she is not. There is a great sense of upmarket New York and 40% in I thought this was going to be great.

But the story then descends into an incredibly far fetched conspiracy which has such big holes in it that it would surely have been uncovered previously. And even once uncovered, the obvious way in which folk could be spotted as members is not pursued. Far too many inconsistencies and very loose ends for me I’m afraid. Three stars for the first bit. Sorry. Thanks to NetGalley for a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book was fantastic! I really could not put it down. It's one of those books where you're dying to know how it ends but at the same time don't want the story to end because it's that good!
A couple are house sitting for new friends that they met on a cruise when a young woman turns up at the front door during a rain storm. She claims to know the homeowners so they decide to let her stay. Big mistake.
All of the characters were really vivid and the story was well told. I enjoyed the wrap up at the end. I felt like there were no loose ends.
If you're looking for a fast paced thriller pick this one up!

⭐⭐⭐💫
I have read several books by Mark Edwards, and they never disappoint. The House Guest was no exception. While this was not my favorite book of Edwards, I still really enjoyed it! The premise is very interesting. I found it to be a fast read between the pacing along with the short chapters. While I didn't absolutely love the characters, which is usually a miss for me- I loved the plot, so I didn't feel like it took anything from the story for me. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a fast paced psychological thriller!

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review. I cannot wait to see what Edwards comes up with next!

I don't think I've read any of Mark Edwards book before but, after reading The House Guest I will be rectifying that. I started reading this thinking I'd read a chapter or two but was completely wrapped up in it and got halfway before I realised. Lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing right to the end.

This is my first book by this author and it’s brilliant. Some might say that the plot was a bit predictable, but I enjoyed it never the less. I will be reading more from this author.

Great psychological thriller that is so relevant to what is going on in the world today...one of many things. Quick reading, grips you from the beginning and then the last 20% throws you around like a rag doll. A good casual read.

This was one of those thrillers that you pick up with the intention of light reading before bed and before you know it, it’s 3am and you haven’t stopped until you reach the end.

Intriguing read, with a plot which in some ways was predictable, but in others had some great twists and didn’t see the ending coming. A very good solid 4 star read for me and I’d love to read other novels from this author.

At first I sped through this book, it was gripping, thrilling and exciting....and then...it just got weird!
Great idea but poorly executed and quite unbelievable in parts, lacked empathy for the characters and there were lots of parts that left me puzzled and questioning their motives and behaviour.
I really thought this was going to be a 5 star review. Instead, I'd give it 3.5 as the latter part of the book really let it down.

This book is not what it seems. It has a typical "why would you let a stranger in?" beginning but the story develops into something else. I think it may be more appealing to a YA readership, but I enjoyed it nevertheless.

This was my first Mark Edwards read, and I thought it was pretty good. I was really invested in the story the first half, and then I kind of lost interest when the "cult" stuff was going on. I am not really into that. It was overall a quick read and very interesting.

Thank you Netgalley for this ARC of The House Guest by Mark Edwards.

Ruth and Adam are house sitting for a trendy couple in NY. While the owners of the house are on a spiritual retreat, Ruth and Adam are there to see if they can strike gold in their respective acting and writing careers.

But on a rainy day, a young woman, Eden, knocks on their door, drenched to the bone, and looking for the homeowners. She has been displaced and desperate for a place to stay. Not wanting to withhold charity for the homeowners' friend, they welcome her into the home and their lives.

But (UNSURPRISINGLY, COME ON PEOPLE), things start to take a weird turn. Who exactly is this Eden, and what are her real intentions.

Ok, despite my prior outburst, the book is good. I especially liked the shocking turn the story took, and it closely resembled a scandalous current even that I won't name. But seriously, let's invite a stranger into our home and then be totally shocked when things don't go perfectly. It's enough for me to have a momentary tantrum.

This is a frightening story about what could happen if you invite a stranger into your house - but it’s not really - it is actually even more than that! The oppressive New York summer heat provides the perfect backdrop and atmosphere for the drama that unravels
.
Ruth and Adam are a happy couple, who accept a generous offer to house-sit for a well to do couple that they met by chance on a cruise. When approached by a friend of the house owners, their lives take a turn that they could never have imagined!

This was my first Mark Edwards book and I look forward to reading more.

The house guest follows a young British couple house sitting a property for some rich Americans whilst they go gallivanting. Ruth and Adam met Jack and Mona whilst on a cruise, they hit it off and was offered the opportunity to stay in their house rent free...this was great as Ruth was rehearsing and making her big break with her acting career and Adam could focus on his screen writing. Mid way through their time house sitting they get an unexpected guest...Eden! Eden is a friend of Jack and Mona's and needs a place to stay and like themselves she was offered to stay whenever she needed to. However, Eden seems to good to be true!

This is my second mark Edwards novel, I read 'The Magpies' a few years back and really enjoyed it. I have to say that I wasn't blown away with this story, nothing stood out to me and made it different to a lot of other books out on the market. My 3 stars is being generous as I hate the trope that was used in this book, if I was aware I probably wouldn't have picked it up but once I have started a book I like to finish it
Mark Edwards does a good job of making Adam seem like an unreliable character and not to believed. The writing was easy to read and not to taxing. It was alternative point of view between Ruth and Adam. I wasn't gripped with this story and didn't care to much about who the bad guy was. Ruth and Adam were quite boring characters, there was no emotion between them.

Adam & Ruth, meet Jack & Mona while they were on a Cruise. Adam, a struggling writer while Ruth is an actress, who has just bagged a role for a Broadway show.
Jack is a College Prof while his wife Mona runs her own business. Jack & Mona ask Adam & Ruth to house - sit while they take off to a retreat for a couple of days.
Things are finally looking up for Ruth & in time Adam too has his writing going on for him. Just when they think, life is going to be fine, things so all over the place.
One rainy night, while Adam & Ruth are house sitting, there is a knock on the door. As they open, they see a woman soaked in the rain asking for Jack & Mona. Not wanting to seem cavalier, Adam invites her inside.
She introduces herself as Eden, a friend of Jack & Mona. She gives her side of the story and Adam & Ruth take pity and let her stay.
They spend a couple of days and a day before Jack & Mona are to arrive, all three of them to decide to party. Everyone is so hammered that when Adam wakes up, he has no idea about anything. All hell breaks lose when he realizes that Ruth & Eden are missing. The trepidation within him has resurfaced and so have Jack & Mona from their retreat.
A frantic Adam narrates they entire story to both to of them. Jack & Mona give a puzzled look and Jack's only question - Who the hell is Eden?

- Who is Eden?
- Where have Ruth & Eden vanished?
- Who are Jack & Mona actually?
- Is Adam successful in bringing back Ruth?
- What shocking discoveries does Adam stumble upon?

Read it to know it!
