Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.
This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.
A great thriller that had me gripped - such a cliche, I know! Well-thought-out and shocking in places. An author I'll be watching out for in the future.
The Catch is my second thriller from T. M. Logan. It’s been on my netgalley queue for quite a while however I noticed it in and Audible sale so decided to download the audiobook and have a listen.
The story follows main character Ed and his family - his wife, daughter Abbie and her boyfriend Ryan. Ed has a bad feeling about Ryan, and his suspicion mounts with the announcement of their engagement and impending, too soon, nuptials.
Ed turns into a bit of an amateur detective and gets himself into a bit of bother along the way but instinct does know best! I would say the latter half of the book definitely picks up pace and although I’d sort of sussed out what was going on just before the end it was still a very dark and twisted thriller!
The narrator was excellent throughout and I really enjoyed the audiobook of this novel.
With thanks to the publisher and netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
T M Logan is one of the best psychological thriller writers of today. I'll happily buy their books blind because I know they will hit the spot. The Catch is the perfect example of this. Ed's daughter Abbie introduces her new boyfriend Ryan at a family meeting. Ed takes an instant dislike to him and when a shotgun wedding is announced for only a few weeks time he decides to take matters into his own hands. Is Ryan the perfect catch or are their secrets hidden behind his perfect smile? Well it is a thriller so you can probably guess the answer to that!!!
This is a great cat and mouse page turner that will keep your heart rate up right until the end.
This is a fast paced thriller which shows the lengths a parent will go to protect their child.
It kept me completely hooked and was full of plot twists.
This book is well written with excellent characterisation.
An entertaining psychological thriller.
Another fantastic read from the author. Gripping and tense. Couldn't put it down! Can't wait to read more.
Abbie is the apple of her father's eye, so any man she brings home is always under scrutiny. When Ed is introduced to Ryan he senses something is off straight away but is early days in the relationship so he has time to suss him out properly. Then Abbie drops the bombshell they are engaged and getting married in a few weeks! While everyone else is toasting the happy couple Ed is figuring out how he can expose his future Son in Law for who he really is.
First things first I love a title with a double meaning. In this case Ryan is considered a catch by Abbie but her father thinks there must be a catch involved as noone is that perfect. Ed starts off as the typical protective parent but then quickly escalates to off the scale. Unlike his family I trusted his gut instinct however the way he went about things was not the norm and for it all to be based on a look in Ryan's eye was perhaps a bit unlikely. However as the story progressed a plausible back story was provided which gave credence to Ed's personality traits. That being said this should have meant that his wife and daughter would be more understanding with his concerns but their lack of support meant I rooted even harder for Ed to be right in the end. The pacing of this book was well done in that it started off slow then picked up the pace to a satisfying crescendo, however there were no surprises for me along the way.
"Ed is delighted to meet his twenty-three year old daughter's fiancé for the first time. Ryan appears to be the perfect future son-in-law. There's just one problem. There's something off about Ryan. Something hidden in the shadows behind his eyes. And it seems that only Ed can see it.
Terrified that his daughter is being drawn in by a psychopath, Ed sets out to uncover her fiancé's dark past - while keeping his own concealed. But no-one believes him. And the more he digs, the more he alienates her and the rest of the family who are convinced that Ryan is 'the one'.
Ed knows different. For reasons of his own, he knows a monster when he sees one"
You never quite know who to believe. Is Ed being over protective and paranoid or is Ryan hiding something? Or are they both as much of a psychopath as each other?
The book raced along at a fast pace and I was hooked, trying desperately to work out who to believe and switching alliances several times throughout the book, as more and more was revealed.
I was unfortunately disappointed with the ending because it felt all a bit too neat and tidy for me.
I enjoy a T.M Logan book but had been putting this one off due to the storyline. When Ed and Claire meet their daughter's boyfriend Ryan, Ed sees there's something a bit off about him. Is he really as perfect as he seems? Ed things not. The trouble is no-one else sees it and he risks losing his daughter Abbey to her new boyfriend who quickly becomes her husband if he keeps making his concerns known.
The book is well written, across three parts. I found it very easy to read and understand the characters. There weren't too many which really helped niche down the storyline. I am not sure what I was expecting to happen at the end, and whilst I wasn't shocked, I thought it was well written and tied everything together nicely.
This is the first book Ive read by this author. I actually really enjoyed the quick chapters, i did feel like it was very surface level when getting to know the characters
. But good gripping story.
Certainly keeps the reader on edge ....Ed and his wife Claire are introduced to their daughter Abbies’s new boyfriend Ryan....he seems to good to be true handsome charming with a good job everything seems perfect .... or so it seems !! Ed has his doubts from the beginning when Ryan proposes with a massive diamond his doubts double and he feels that he needs to look into this ‘perfect ‘guys past
What unfolds is a great read .... everyone doubts Ed who becomes obsessed with digging into Ryan’s past as things just don’t seem right ... Abbie and even his wife Claire are against him but as Ryan’s past start to unfolds things are not as perfect as they appear
The Catch is an engaging, tightly-plotted thriller which is gripping from beginning to end. I particularly enjoyed the way the author uses multiple points of view, including that of the antagonist- really effective and entertaining!
All a caring parent wants for their child is for their lives to be happy, secure and safe from harm which is perfectly understandable whilst a child is growing up but once they reach adulthood, they need to be given the freedom to live their own lives. Unfortunately, there are some parents who struggle to let their child go and can be very controlling and over protective. Our main character Ed adored his daughter Abbie and was prepared to go to any lengths that he deemed necessary to keep her safe from harm and protect her from dodgy boyfriends. And as far as Ed was concerned there was definitely something dodgy about Abbie's new fiance Ryan, that there was something dark lurking behind the dark eyes, shy smile and perfect manners. Of course, neither Abbie or Ed's wife Claire were prepared to listen to Ed's doubts and concerns so he decides to go all Tom Cruise ala Mission Impossible and starts digging into Ryan's life, determined to uncover the evidence that he needed to prove that his suspicious are correct. Although I could fully understand Ed's concerns about Abbie's safety and despite the fact that Ed and Claire had a tragic backstory that might have gone a little way into explaining his thoughts, actions and behaviour, I found that he was a very annoying character and for various reasons I didn't think he was very likeable. He was so obsessed with his search for evidence that he didn't once take Abbie and Claire's feelings into consideration. But were Ed's suspicions about Ryan correct? Was Ryan a cunning, manipulative psychopath or a genuine, caring nice guy? Will Ed's suspicions result in him losing everything that he cares about?
The book is divided into three sections and are voiced from the perspectives of first Ed and Claire, then just Ed and the final third is narrated by Abbie, Claire and Ryan. The writer cleverly keeps the reader in the dark about what Ryan's thoughts were about Abbie and her family, what the truth about Ryan's character may or may not have been and if Abbie and Ryan's relationship was as happy as it appeared to be.
I love T.M.Logan's thrillers, they are always extremely well written, thrilling reads that hook the reader in from the first page, keep you guessing and racing through the pages. His characters are always diverse, vivid and realistic, the plots are intricate and gripping and his books are addictive, enthralling, enjoyable reads and very very highly recommended.
I wasn't sure I would like this book as I thought I'd figured out the ending quite quickly so it wouldn't be that interesting. I was wrong. The writing style and the gradual building up of the background of Ryan was really well done. An entertaining read with a heart stopping ending.
I read this book in a day. I couldn't put it down, great characters, well written story with a meaty ending. It was everything I love in a psychological thriller. Highly recommend! .
Loved this book. This author is fast becoming a favourite of mine. Well written, amazing characters & plot that keeps you up all night. I’d highly recommend this book to anyone.
Sparks fly when Ed meets his daughter Abbie’s new boyfriend Ryan but not in a good way! You always know when you read a book by this author that you are in for a crazy ride and this one is no different. Is Ed just being paranoid or is the perfect Ryan not so perfect after all? Well hold on to your hat as you read and find out. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all T M Logan’s books as they’re never staid or so slow burning that they fizzle out before the story even gets going. Read but don’t forget to breathe as the thrilling climax approaches!
This book kept me on the edge of my seat
Abby brings home Ryan to meet her parents she thinks he is perfect, Mum loves him, Dad doesn’t trust him as far as he can throw him
Ryan continues to be just amazing throughout the book and you really start to think that Dad is nuts but he does not give up
This is as far as I go because this book continues in a way that will shock and surprise you
I gave this 5 stars it’s excellent
Unfortunately, I have not been able to read and review this book.
After losing and replacing my broken Kindle and getting a new phone I was unable to download the title again for review as it was no longer available on Netgalley.
I’m really sorry about this and hope that it won’t affect you allowing me to read and review your titles in the future.
Thank you so much for giving me this opportunity.
Natalie.
A fantastic book. Full of twists and turns to keep you guessing. A five star read. Looking forward to more from the author
