Dad doesn't like daughters new boyfriend... Didn't sound too promising, all too familiar saga of over protective father? Not this time, the reader is taken on a journey through the lives of this family all the while left to decide whether it's Dad's suspicions or true fact driving him on. I didn't see the ending coming, it was really well done. The relationships between father/daughter, mum/daughter and each with the new man, were cleverly woven and felt plausible. I've enjoyed all of this authors books and will continue to seek them out.
Thoroughly enjoyed the previous books by T.M. Logan and as anticipated this did not disappoint.
This had me hooked from the outset & I devoured this in just a day.
Rollercoaster of a journey to keep you enthralled.
4.5 stars
An easy and enjoyable thriller which is easy to devour in one sitting. Very fast paced with some good twists along the way.
3.5 stars
Read all his books at rapid speed and this last one was read in one go ! Absolutely can’t wait for the next one from T M Logan ! So good , literally couldn’t put it down . A must read! Very clever and well worked.
For me this was a quick read and it began quite well! It felt believable and I’m sure many people can understand a very protective father, only wanting the best for his daughter. However, as the book went on I found some of the scenarios very far fetched and I began to lose interest a bit.
There are many thrillers out there and it is quite a saturated market, so it does take a lot to impress me and make me go wow. I had the end sussed out in advance, and when this happens it quite hard to keep going.
Overall it’s not a bad read, but it’s not up there with my top thrillers!
First book I read by this author and I enjoyed a lot, as a matter of a fact I read it in one sitting. I just couldn't put it down. The father obssession can be a bit annoying but it's totally worth to know the why, what and where. I caught myself making theories and guessing what was going on and when we discovered the true I can assure you it's a total shock. Iit was a bit repetitive sometimes and that's the only reason I'm giving four stars. Overall it was a great book and really gripping.
Fast paced thriller loved all of the exciting plot twists couldn’t put it down a real page turner. Great book really enjoyed The Holiday & can’t wait for the next book. Clever game of cat and mouse with Ryan and Edward as the protective Dad who knows his instinct to protect Abbie is right but struggles to prove his future son in law is lying to his trusting family. Edward’s downward spiral to uncover the truth takes it’s toil on his mental health as his life begins to unravel at breathtaking speed. Thanks Netgalley and Bonnier Books for the advance copy
I really enjoyed this book and will give it a huge thumbs up. With a great story line and excellent main characters - I would highly recommend this book.
If you look up the definition of a slow burner, the catch would be there. It was good enough to keep me interested, and easy to read, but just as I was lulled into an average read kind of security - BOOM - the last 1/4 blew me away! Chilling, scary, exciting, sad, this had it all - pushing a 3.5 star up to a 5 (or maybe a 6)
Loved it!
Wow this book reeled me in from the get go. Short snappy chapters that get you wanting more.. and it didn't disapoint. Ed's daughter Abbie announces she is due to be married to her boyfriend of 6 or 7 months, and Ed isn't happy. There is something off about the seemingly perfect son in law he has just been introduced to but no one else seems to pick up on it. Is Ed just being an over protective father, or is his first impression of Ryan valid?
The Catch is about a Dad doing everything in his power to protect his daughter and going to any lengths to do so. Abbey brings her boyfriend Ryan home to meet her parents for the first time. Ed is trying to decide how he feels about his daughter’s boyfriend when they drop a bombshell – they’re getting married. Very soon!
Some of the things Ryan says don’t quite add up and makes his spidey-senses tingle so Ed goes on a mission with a short time frame to prove Ryan is not only a liar, but also dangerous.
Is Ed just being paranoid? Is he taking his suspicions too far? Would anyone ever be good enough for his baby girl? Is he risking irreversible damage to his relationship with Abbey?
I was blown away at some of the things he did to try to prove his suspicions correct, surely these are not the actions of a sane man?!
I loved this book, so much so I read it in one day!
Thank you to Bonnier Zaffre for allowing me to read this in exchange for a review.
After reading this authors previous book “The holiday” I was really looking forward to reading this, I was not disappointed I will call this my favourite book of 2020. Ed and Claire meet their daughters new boyfriend and he is Mr perfect, good looks fab personality, so caring, great job And he adores their daughter and wants to make her happy....... so why can’t Ed get over the protective father syndrome?? What is wrong with Ryan? Can he be as perfect as he seems??
Read on you will not be disappointed. Others have reviewed this book and said that when they weren’t reading it they were thinking about it trying to get to the bottom of the mystery Or is there no mystery just Ed becoming obsessed with Ryan.
Definitely one for your reading list I didn’t want to put it down.

I really enjoyed The Catch and I couldn't stop reading and I got through it quickly. I listened to T.M Logan's book The Holiday a while ago and I did like that but I think I liked this even more. I got into it very quickly and I think it helped that most of the book is set in Nottingham where I am from, so the places were familiar to me, as well as the surname of the family being the same as my maiden name, and the Granny's name the same as my own Granny!
I didn't guess everything that happened, and a couple of things surprised me which was good. At first, I wasn't sure whether I would enjoy reading it from a male protagonist's point of view - I tend to prefer to read from a female's point of view but actually it worked really well. I found it easy to read and I was sad when it was over.
I have to confess this is only the second book I've read by TM Logan. I read The Holiday last summer and was instantly hooked by his writing. I'm happy to report that The Catch is just as gripping!
The Catch probably comes under the psychological thriller genre but I think it could easily fit into the sub-genre of domestic noir. It's rare for a man to write in this area, even rarer to have a male protagonist. And rarest of all, it works brilliantly. Ed's a typical father - over-protective of his daughter, Abbie. It's going to take a remarkable man to win Ed's approval as a son-in-law. Abbie thinks she's found that in Ryan. Ed's not so sure. And so the story begins.
I thought I knew how this book would go but I was so wrong. I was genuinely surprised by the twists and turns and even shocked at one point. I heard TM Logan say that he loosely based Abbie on his own daughter so those fatherly concerns feel very real. I'm not sure if that reassures his daughter or not!
I liked the setting of Nottingham and the Peak District. Having visited the latter a couple of times for holidays, I could tell that TM Logan has done his research. The wild expanse added to the tension of the story and I could easily imagine those scenes.
The Catch is very different to The Holiday and shows TM Logan's versatility as a writer. I look forward to seeing what he comes up with next!
A decent story, though slightly predictable. However, the casual sexism put me off. I have no patience for glorifying the the doting father who hates every man his daughter get romantically involved with, and is convinced that there's something off with him. This viewpoint is harmful, looks at women as the properties of men. I can't say much because of spoilers, only that, if the idea that "daddy always knows best" when it comes to daughters' romantic interests bothers you, stay away!

I am not very familiar with this author in that I have not actively sought out any other titles, however, that will change after I have read this book. It was superb, a real page turner that hard to put down. Will definitely be looking out for other books by TM Logan
Enjoyable read. Would recommend to friends and family. I could sympathise with characters (important for any fiction novel!) and looked forward to picking it up and reading the next few chapters! Interesting plot line and a good ending. Will look out for more novels by the author. Thank you.
I like my thrillers fast paced, gripping, psychological and twisty with characters I can't quite work out. I want to read it in big greedy chunks and not notice how quickly the pages are turning
That's EXACTLY what you get with T M Logan. His latest book, The Catch is all of the above. I couldn't put it down!
When Ed meets daughter Abbie's boyfriend for the first time, he takes an instant dislike. While everyone is smitten by the generous, charismatic and thoughtful Ryan, Ed feels unease - something in his eyes worries him. When Abbie announces her engagement and quickly upcoming marriage, Ed decides to dig a bit further into Ryan's past, becoming increasingly obsessed and irrational. Is Ed just an overprotective father - he's got form after all. Or is something more sinister going on?
Ed is a fantastic character who had my mind changing about him frequently. I felt sorry for him, then worried for him, then downright terrified as his obsession about Ryan spirals out of control! I mean, this guy is on it! Talk about an unreliable character! He's intense and singleminded, with guarded secrets of his own
The pages literally flew reading this book. My proof was pretty big and daunting, but l read half the book before I even looked up. The writing flows so well with short snappy chapters and perfectly pitched twists making it impossible to put down.
If you're looking for a summer thriller, then look no further. Perfect reading while you chill in your garden and dip your toes in the paddling pool! T M Logan has well and truly earned his name as master of the summer must read and I've no hesitation recommending this!
TM Logan does it again!!! Another incredibly engaging and well paced suspense page turner! Just when I thought I had it all figured out I was proven wrong with Logan’s masterful craft of throwing a curve ball my way. I am a huge fan of this author and cannot wait to read what’s next !!
I am a great fan of T.M. Logan having read Lies, The Holiday and I was equally thrilled with The Catch. I loved everything about this book - the story-line, the characters and all of the many twists and turns.
Abbie Collier is hopelessly in love with her boyfriend Ryan Wilson and the happy couple plan to marry. But there's a problem - Abbie's father, Ed, doesn't like the suave, sophisticated Ryan and suspects him of hiding something, although mother, Claire, supports her daughter's choice and thinks he's a good catch. Desperate to prevent Abbie from marrying the wrong man, Ed digs into Ryan's past and in doing so he alienates his wife and daughter. But maybe Ed has other reasons for mistrusting his future son-in-law.
I found Ed’s reactions natural and understandable as many people have misgivings when a lad sweeps their daughter off her feet and they then have to handle a wedding announcement. His unease is so strong that it turns into an unhealthy obsession in only a few pages. For me the author's skill lies in his gripping and powerful writing style. I was totally invested in this dad’s gut instincts and I loved following the snippets of clues, trying to spot the minutest detail that would prove Ed's fears were grounded. Claire's reactions to the happenings were pragmatic and practical restoring the equilibrium within the Collier family as far as possible.
Clever and compelling, T.M. Logan has written another belter of a novel. Totally addictive from start to finish The Catch is very highly recommended and it is another must-read from this brilliant author.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel, at my request, from Bonnier Books/ Zaffre via NetGalley and this review is my unbiased opinion.
