A solid 4 star read. Great premise. Well written. Good characters. Page turner. Plenty of suspense to keep me guessing. Would definitely read her next offering. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to review it
This is a mystery told from 2 perspectives. I found it very gripping with a solid plot and characters that will make you turn the pages. Well written thriller to have a good time!
Thanks a lot to NG and the publisher for this copy.
Thanks to Netgalley and Simon and Schuster for providing this arc in exchange for an honest review.
Julia’s wedding day doesn’t go as planned. She is ready to walk down the aisle but Mark, the groom, is missing. No one has seen him since the day before. It seems to be more than cold feet and detectives Loxton and Kowalski grudgingly get involved in the investigation. Of course they and Julia uncover a lot more than they bargained for.
4.5 stars.
I like detective novels and this was a good one. We get the story from both Julia and Alana Loxton as they both investigate what happened to Mark. It turns out Julia has some secrets too. There was also some backstory on Alana that makes me think (hope) we may see her and Kowalski again. Overall a good novel with mystery and some suspense and I would read more from this author.
I loved Before I Say I Do!
After just finishing a disappointing book I’ve glad to report Before I Say I Do is wonderful! It’s intelligent, gripping and full of suspense. Add in some killer twists, a shocking ending and I’m sold!
Vicki Bradley has talent! I want more!
Told from two different perspectives, Before I say I Do is a novel packed full of suspense, mystery, lies and secret. It's well paced and leaves you on the edge of your seat, frantically turning the pages to read the next twist and turn in the plot.
The story starts with Julia's wedding day. Her fiancé, Mark is missing. Detective Alana Loxton is given the job to find out what had happened to Mark. She's also new to the team and wants to make a good impression. She needs to get to the bottom of Mark's disappearance before anything sinister happens to him.
This story is told from Julia and Alana's points of view. It has a cleverly crafted plot. I like the relationship that Alana had with her colleague Kowalski. There is plenty of twist and turns to keep you guessing and the ending was a surprise. This is a really good debut novel.
I would like to thank NetGalley, Simon and Schuster and the author Vicki Bradley for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Part psychological thriller, part detective genre. I enjoyed this novel more than I initially thought I would - the first chapter, most of which consists of a bride's pre-wedding nerves, did very little for me. As I read on - the novel is nothing if not a page turner - I settled into it more. It was extremely well written, cleverly plotted, and on the whole very satisfying. If there's a but, it's the characterisation. I did not completely believe in the motivations of those who peopled the story. Still, an extremely enjoyable way to spend a few hours. And hours is what most of us currently have!
I honestly did not know what to expect from this book, as it was a new author for me. It starts off innocently, with a wedding, but then the groom is missing. Literally missing. Throughout the book the police are trying to find the groom, while Julia is dealing with her past, and her present all in one. It was really a good read, and I can't wait to read some more by this author. Recommended.
A good twisty thriller that surprised me a lot. Good writing too. I’d definitely read another book from this author. Fantastic xx
It took me a little while to get into it, but I'm glad I stuck it out. A great twisty read for those who love thrillers that take surprising turns
Julia is getting ready to marry Mark, when she arrives at the aisle he isn’t waiting for her, he has disappeared. Detective Alana Loxton is new to the team after being transferred out of her MIT position and she wants to make a good impression. Things are not adding up for Alana with Julia and Mark. Can they find him before someone has to die?
Oh I loved this book. It was really gripping and a brilliant story. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
This is a well written story with lots of twists and turns . The author's police background is very obvious and brings a lot to the book. Well worth a read .
I very much enjoyed reading this book.
When I first read the blurb, I was already intrigued and thankfully the story delivered! The characters are well written and the story itself is executed in great detail! Highly recommend!
I received an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest review
Generally not a police procedural kinda gal but I loved this one- the author’s time on the force really comes through. You can really get caught up in all the characters as well as the twists and I tore through it. Easy five
Before I Say I Do is a standout debut thriller from Vicki Bradley.
The novel is told from the points of view of Julia Talbot, and police detective Alana Loxton. I was immediately drawn into Julia's story, which starts with her wedding day when her fiancé Mark is missing. She's an intriguing character with secrets in her past and I was hooked from chapter 1 to find out more. I really liked the relationship and lively dialogue between DC Alana Loxton and her colleague, Kowalkski, who are brought into investigate the missing person case. Vicki Bradley's police background really brings the plot and characters to life, making it feel really authentic and natural as the reader is placed in the middle of the action. The shines through not only in the police procedures, but also in the description of places and the emotional richness of the characters.
The plot is full of twists and turns as the secrets and lies of the characters start to unfold. The ending took me by surprise. I really enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it to readers who love unputdownable psychological thrillers. I read a lot of books in this genre and Before I Say I Do is definitely up there among my favourite reads so far of 2020.
Apparently Vicki Bradley, the author of Before I Say I Do, works for the police – and it shows. The police procedural parts of the book shine with authenticity. These parts, written from the POV of disgraced officer Alana Loxton, were probably my favourite; she's a great character, sympathetic and relatable.
Julia Talbot, the other primary character whose first-person narrative makes up the rest of the book, is also an interesting character, though I wasn't always convinced by her decisions. Still, she is believably haunted by the horrific death that lies in her past.
I really enjoyed this book, and I can see why the author won the writing contest described at the start. She's definitely a good writer and one to watch – I'd read another book featuring Loxton and Kowalski any day! My only complaint was that, for me, it was really obvious who the villain was. I mean, REALLY obvious, as in, I called it in pretty much the first chapter. That took away a little of my enjoyment. But maybe I've just read too many books and know how these things go.
A strong four stars from me, and recommended.

A mind blowing psychological thriller with a jaw dropping ending. Highly recommended.
I'm glad that I picked up this book to read. I didn't know this author before but I picked it up because of its plot and I must say that I'm not dissatisfied. Its a mind blowing thriller.
It’s Julia’s wedding day. Her nerves are to be expected – every bride feels the same – but there’s another layer to her fear, one that she cannot explain to her soon-to-be husband, Mark. She’s never told him the details – and she is determined he never finds out.As she begins down the aisle, spotting Mark in his tailored suit, she knows she is taking her first steps to happiness – her past is behind her, it can’t catch her now. Mark turns to face her .But it isn’t Mark in the beautiful suit – it’s his best man.Because Mark is missing. And Julia’s past is closer than she thinks.
Thanks to NetGalley and Simon Schuster for giving me an advance copy.
