One Split Second by Caroline Bond is a gripping and emotional story about a family tragedy.
The book explores the themes of guilt, grief, forgiveness and healing
I recommend this book to anyone who likes family dramas and emotional journeys
This book is very well written and is full of descriptive writing.
The tension in the story develops with every chapter.
It was a very emotional read
Thank you for the ARC of this book and sorry I took so long to read it.
I tried to read this twice and finally managed on the third attempt. I found this terribly hard to read and so sad.
As a parent of young adults, I completely understand the premise at the heart of this book. Although I know my children are sensible, I hate the thought of them driving, more because of other drivers out there.
So the idea here is a really good one, with a lot of potential, and the opening scene is intriguing and so well-written, so moving. It really makes you want to read on.
There are some interesting characters here too, with some well thought-out back stories, and the relationships between them work very well.
But for me, all that potential just didn’t lead anywhere. There was nothing particularly unusual or surprising about what had happened, why it had happened, or the consequences. It all felt a little flat.
Wow - what a premise. 'When a car carrying five teenagers home from a party crashes into a brick wall, the consequences are devastating - not just for the young people directly involved, but also for their families, their friends and the wider community.' I couldn't resist this and was so pleased to be granted a copy by the publisher through NetGalley. Superb characterisation and a solidly plotted story meant that I read this in two sittings. It was my first Caroline Bond but it certainly won't be my last. A fantastic read.
Brilliantly written, this book is a rollercoaster of emotions. 5 teenagers with the whole of their lives ahead of them, on the way home from a night out together, are involved in a car crash that will change everything in One Split Second. So many emotions are explored, just about everything a person can feel is laid bare, as we see the far reaching impacts that this tragedy has on so many people. Family dynamics, love, loss, grief, hate, forgiveness and so much more are explored, so well that it all oozes off the pages
Wow, how quickly life can change in one split second. I loved this book and could not put this down. A very moving and powerful story line. I will definitely read more by this author.
What a brilliant book!!
My first by this author but definitely not my last
Sad story keeps you wondering what is going to happen while you keep your fingers crossed wishing for the best
Excellent read
A very gripping book. A very powerful, emotional but sad story. The chapters are small so you get through this book very quickly.
One Split Second by Caroline Bond is a sensitively written book based on the aftermath of a tragic accident. It is emotional and thought provoking and also, of course heartbreaking at times. The writer tells the story from different perspectives which I like as the technique enables the reader to gain a greater depth of understanding for the characters.
My thanks to Netgalley and Corvus, an imprint of Atlantic Books Ltd. for an advance copy.
How does a teenager cope with grief?
Actually, how does anyone deal with the loss of someone close to them, especially in an accident?
This story delves into the grief from a parent, a child, a friend, family and the person that finds them point of view. They each have their storyline about what they went through, this might sound very sad but it is written in such a way that you can actually feel their pain. This was a very good book which was written so well by Caroline Bond.
I very much enjoyed this book. It has a good story and excellent main characters. I would definately recommend this book.
One split second ... and their lives changed forever.
A car crash. 5 teenagers, a dozen lives destroyed.
An emotional tale of grief, confusion and regret- and ultimately forgiveness.
Great novel for book clubs! Many complex issues and questions arise from the challenging situations that the teenagers are involved in.
A thought-provoking and sensitively written novel- definitely recommend.
A fantastic read. After a night out a group of friends have a tragic accident, and their lives change forever. Secrets are uncovered about them which affects them all in different ways . The story has great characters and shows what can happen when parents aren't aware what their children are getting up too .A story of friendships, love, families and love but more importantly the healing when you finally learn how to forgive.
Really emotive book about four teenagers involved in a car crash and the repercussions on their relationships family and learning to forgive. Told from different perspectives and a real insight into some amazing characters. A fabulous must read !
Initially, the alternating perspectives were a little confusing but cleverly this does mirror the confusion that surrounds any car crash where there are multiple victims and narratives to be investigated. It is worth persevering because eventually, you do start to care about the characters.
I found this quite a sad and difficult story to read, especially in times that we are experiencing at the moment. But, I ploughed on with it and actually enjoyed it once I got through the sadness. Having not read any of Ms Bond’s books before I was very pleased to read a new author and I am already looking forward to reading more of hers. Let’s hope the next one I read isn’t so sad. The subject matter was difficult but, that is real, life situation which every parent dreads and hopefully never has to face.
My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
A heartbreaking book which is beautifully and thoughtfully written. The devastation and aftermath of a one split second decision and the destruction it causes afterwards.
Need tissues for this one
In one split second many people's lives are changed in a tense and heart-wrenching story - I can't really say I 'enjoyed' this book but it is a well thought out plot, has interesting characters told from their different perspectives and moves on at a good pace. A good read to the end.
Thanks to NetGalley for the arc
A really well written and fast paced book, my interest was held throughout and I felt that it was a thrilling read. Great characters and interesting plot.
