The second book in the bestselling Eve of Man trilogy.
Eve is the last girl on earth.
For the last sixteen years, Eve has been a prisoner. Guarded by the Mothers. Trapped by her fate. Watched by the world.
Until she took her chance, and escaped.
Eve finally has the freedom she has wanted for so long, and with Bram she has the love. But both come at a price. In this dangerous new world beyond the Tower, the regime are only ever one step behind. And together with the desperate rebel group fighting against them, Eve has found herself in more danger than she ever could have imagined.
With everything stacked against them, can Eve and Bram survive?
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG. THAT LAST CHAPTER. I NEED BOOK THREE NOW.
Ok, so when I was gifted a copy of the Eve of Man back when it was first published, I was a little sceptical, I mean, a YA fantasy dystopia from a romance writer and a pop star? Well, look who was proved wrong, Eve of Man is an incredible dystopia, think Children of Men with a sprinkling of Shatter Me. Tom Fletcher might be a children’s author and musician (though tbh big up McFly, they are still one of my favourites, it’s a true love and that never dies) and Giovanna Fletcher might specialise in relationship drama but the two of them have created an incredibly dark, dystopia series and I am happy to continue to be proved wrong where these two are concerned. You can see my review of the first book here.
The Eve Illusion kicks off where we left off, with Eve realising that her life isn’t quite as it seems and running away from everything she has ever known with Bram to join the Freevers, the rebel group who have dedicated their lives to giving Eve her freedom. We literally jumped right in and it didn’t let up from there. The pacing was incredible, it was non stop action all the way through, making it a pretty perfect book for isolation – a book you don’t want to put down when you have way more free time than usual? The perfect combination.
Look, there are still things that make me a little uncomfortable with the premise, the whole expecting a sixteen year old girl to repopulate the world being the main one, the way that pretty much every young man that comes into contact with Eve seems to want to bone her… That aside though, The Eve Illusion is amazing, the reveals were more than I could have hoped for and there is so much more left to unpack with book three, I want the end of the series now!
Having loved the first in this trilogy & being left in Limbo by the ending, I was really looking forward to the next instalment. It did not disappoint. This book started from where the first one finished so you really do need to read that one first. Having set the scene & the background in the first book this one is a darker more introspective book as Eve struggles to grow into the role she has been forced to play. I knew this one was going to end on the edge of an equally steep cliff- & it did! Just hope it's not too long till the third one comes out!
Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.

It has been a long wait for this second instalment and as a result I did struggle to remember where we were with the read and it took a while to get back into the plot. However once I did, I enjoyed the faster paced, action plot that was sorely missing from the first instalment. This read feels a lot more adult than the first book of the series, something I very much appreciated.
I have to say this is still horribly cliched but having said that I am not sure a book in this genre can really avoid being cliched as readers know what to expect. On a positive note, the Fletchers throw in quite a few twists throughout, most of them are very obvious. One I did not see coming at all and that provided some much needed shock and excitement. Then there was a potential twist that they set up perfectly and then took it in another direction, if you read this you will be able to spot it and I have to say it was a shame they did not go with it as I think the book would have really changed with it.
A book like this lives off the characters and once again Eve and Bram take the helm. They are likable, loveable characters whom are easy to follow and root for. This instalment sees Michael take more of a central role which provided a different perspective as well as more danger as Eve and Bram fight back.
'The Eve Illusion' is an excellent follow up to the first instalment that provides action and twists and sets up the next book perfectly. I only hope we do not have to wait as long.
Thank you to NetGalley and Penguin UK for an advance copy.

The Eve Illusion is the second book of the Eve of Man trilogy by Giovanna and Tom Fletcher. I haven’t read the first book of the trilogy, but I’ve found it might not be entirely necessary as this book addresses some pertinent things that happened in the previous one. Initially I wanted to read this book as it was by Giovanna and I’ve read several of her books now and always enjoy her style of writing. I was intrigued what a power team like Giovanna and Tom could create together and this series and the Eve of Man is such.
Set in a dystopian London after a great flood where birth rates have completely dropped and humanity is loosing all faith in its continued existence.
Eve is the saviour. The last female born in 50 years. Locked away in a 1000 floored tower, living an illusion of ‘real life’ and protected from the outside world by EPO. Michael Turner, one of Eve’s Final Guards, demoted and emprisoned for his recklessness towards Eve is released and amongst the guards searching for their saviour as she breaks free from her prison.
I enjoyed the twists and turns of the book, especially in the way that they were written and with well thought out characters. Reading this affected me quite profoundly, particularly given the current climate involving COVID-19 and the fact this book is set in a futuristic England after a massive amount of the population has been killed due to the flood.
OMG what a second book so worth the wait!! It took me a few pages to remember what had been happening when I had finished book one but once I was back upto date I was totally transported into Eve's world.
I loved the way it was written from three perspectives and found that I was hooked and just had to keep reading. I hit 50% way to quickly and the pace just kept building and then I was hurtling towards the end knowing that I would once again feel bereft.
A superb second book that has once again left me desperate to read the next one as I have to know what comes next for Eve. The characters jump off the pages, creating brilliant visuals through the descriptions and once again I felt like I was part of the story.
A genius pairing when it comes to writing as these books are superb! Highly recommended reading if you haven't already started the trilogy.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest, independent review.

Wow, wow, WOW! This is the second book in a trilogy, following on from 'Eve of Man', which became my favouite book for 2018. 'Eve of Man' ended on a cliffhanger and I have been waiting for this book ever since.
I was so excited to receive this digital ARC and dived straight in, and it did not disappoint! The book opens with a recap of where 'Eve of Man' ended, very helpfully. However, I would say 'The Eve Illusion' cannot be read as a standalone book, and the series should really be read in order for full enjoyment.
The characaters and plot are exciting and keep me constantly gripped; I love the unique world Tom and Giovanna have created, and think the trilogy would make a great film/television series. The character development has continued with Eve coming out as quite fiesty and tough for someone who has been bought up away from the real world.
To me, 'The Eve Illusion' is darker and pacier than 'Eve of Man'. I enjoyed the multiple POV style of writing, as it helped me learn more about each character, and I loved learning more about the work that is going on inside the EPO Tower.
The book has once again ended on a cliffhanger (that ending?? Amazing!), and I now cannot wait until the third book is released!
Although an interesting concept, this book finishes on a cliffhanger. Rather than leave me wanting more, I felt it unfinished. Disappointed.
I was super excited to get the next installment after reading Eve of Man and I certainly wasn't disappointed! This started off exactly where Eve of Man finished and it was straight in with the action. I loved reading about how Eve's life was like in the outside world and how her loyalties and kindness developed even further. Her relationships especially with Bram, are completely plausible and you end up rooting for them all the way through.
This book ended on a huge cliffhanger that will make you hungry for more! I cannot wait for book 3 in this trilogy.
i Was really excited to receive this book, Eve of man was one of my favourite reads and I couldn’t wait to get stuck into this one and I wasn’t disappointed. Gi and Tom have created a wonderful, intriguing world that always leaves me wanting more. I flew through the last half of the book desperate to know what was going to happen. I like the multiple POV’s and there weren’t any that I found myself skipping through. Can not wait for the next instalment!
This is the second installment of the "Eve' series. Eve has escaped and we find out how far EPO will go to get Eve back. Michael's viewpoint held the most interest for me as we can see the lengths Vivian will go to: torture, death and using new technology. Great for Y.A readers. Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for letting me review this book.
I have been looking forward to reading this sequel to Eve of Man. The book seemed to happen very quickly and it was read quickly. Perhaps not as good as plot as the first book, but it had to sit somewhere in the middle of introducing the plot and characters and the final 3 rd book? Liked the romantic aspect.
I loved the first book in this trilogy and have been waiting for the second book but the publication date kept getting pushed back. A really good second book, can’t wait for the third book!
Can't wait for the next one! I had one of my suspicions confirmed by a twist in this book and although it took me longer to get into this one, I was still invested in the characters and soon hooked back in and eager to finish!
Thank you to NetGalley.co.uk for giving me a free copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I'm glad I got the chance to review this book after enjoying the first book of the trilogy. I liked that this book started with a quick recap of Eve of Man, very useful for rejigging your memory. I really enjoyed this book, a lot more than the first one. I felt that Tom and Giovanna have managed to find their way in working together as you learn more about the world around Eve. I can't believe that cliffhanger though and can't wait for the next book now!!
I absolutely adored Eve of Man and was so excited to read the second instalment. Wow, just WOW!! Absolutely phenomenal storyline, the plot flows brilliantly and so well written. Just pure magic on every page! Can not wait for No 3
This is one of those books that stays with you.
I really enjoyed reading it as it is well written and the way the narrative changes makes it unique.
I love dystopian style novels and this is a great example with a story that keeps you hooked. I can’t wait for the next one.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read the book. It was amazing! Picked the story right back up again and couldn't put it down. Highly recommend and will look forward to the next instalment!
Absolutely fabulous, an addictive read from page one to end, after the cliffhanger ending of the first book I couldn’t wait to dive right in and I wasn’t disappointed at all. This is as good as the first, and yes it comes with another cliffhanger ending, but you know it’s going to be so worth the wait, because this book was worth the wait. Giovanna and Tom are amazing writers, torturers and magic weavers ! This is a bit darker than the first, but I think even better and I cannot wait for the third book.
One of my favourite reads of the year
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
They have done it again. Another cracking installment of The Eve Trilogy. The first part ended on a cliff hanger and I have waited such a long time to read part 2. It does not disappoint.
Action packed from start to finish, it is the perfect book to escape into right now.
The ending, yes you guessed it another cliff hanger but I am bursting for part 3.
Thank you netgalley for sending me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Firstly, I want to say thank you to Netgalley for sending me an early E-ARC of The Eve Illusion. I was so so excited to receive this as I loved Eve of Man so much and it ended on such a cliffhanger that I just needed to know what happened next.
I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED, this book was SO worth the wait. It was one of those books that I finished and I wanted to immediately pick it back up and read it all over again. I will say if you read this book be prepared to be left hanging YET AGAIN. Seriously, Gi & Tom are brutal when it comes to ending their books. I don't know how I'm going to wait to read the next instalment I need to know what happened.
I love the characters in this book, those characters that we learnt to love in Eve of Man return. The stakes are higher, but the character development continues. I didn't think I could love these characters anymore than I already did, especially Bram and Eve but oh my god I love them so much more now. They are such complex, wonderful, strong, loveable characters and I just want more and more from them please!
The plot develops in such a complex and wonderful way. I really enjoyed seeing the authors expand on the plot that they had already built the foundations for. It has been developed so well and in a way that has definitely satisfied the questions that I had from the previous book. I will say, this isn't a spoiler, that one of the worlds in particular that we are introduced to I would have liked to know a little bit more so I could put part of the plot into a little bit more perspective. However, I suppose that is something that I am going to have to wait for in the next book as I believe it is going to be featured greatly. I did enjoy this though.
THE ENDING. I cant even talk about the ending as I am still trying to get over it. COME ON. How am I meant to wait to find out what happens? I did suspect this was going to happen midway through the book, but then so much happened I forgot about this theory so when it came to light I was still taken by surprise. This book is so good guys. I immediately preordered myself a physical copy and I am already anxiously anticipating the final instalment of this trilogy!
