I loved everything about this book! What a wonderful way to celebrate beautiful natural hair. This should definitely be added to pre school libraries!
I was able to review My Hair Is Beautiful for free from Netgalley and Nimbus publishing for providing me with an advanced ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book is great. It encourages babies with natural hairstyles to embrace all of their different hair styles.
The photos used in the book are nice and bright and toddlers will love them. My daughter enjoyed reading this book.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* What a great book, loved it! would love to see more books like this too!
A short book full of beautiful black children wearing their hair in its full natural beauty. It warms my heart to see a book like this. As a kid, I wished my 4C hair was like Tia and Tamera's from Sister, Sister who both had a head full of long curly hair. Their hair is beautiful of course but I never stopped to think why I was so desperate to make my hair like theirs. It was because I didn't see enough of myself in the world, I saw very little to validate me and tell me my hair was also beautiful. My Hair is Beautiful is such a simple book but it's also hugely powerful, I'm glad it exists.
Lovely book beautiful photos for children to look at and see themselves in some of the children, will be getting this book to read to the children I work with, thank you for letting me take a look at it.
A beautifully designed book that combines uncomplicated text with strong, cheerful visuals. Focusing on the many ways to wear and style natural hair, children joyfully show off beaded braids, updos, and afro puffs. A wonderful addition to library collections for increasing a diverse affirmation of beauty. This would also be a fun book to pick up anytime you need a lift from the vision of sweet young faces.
I love this book. The smiling faces show happy children with their different hair. In my school, young kids like to touch and feel each others hair because everyone is so different. This shows that. I will be buying this for the school library.
What a beautiful book for babies and toddlers! Each page features a closeup picture of a different girl with a different hairstyle with an alliterative description (Beaded Braided, Twisted Tangled, etc.) Little girls will love this sweet book!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC.
A short but simple story about being different. Ideal for very little children and babies. I like the images and the simplicity of it.
Oh, this book is gorgeous! Young children of color can be self-conscious of their hair. But this book encourages them to embrace all of the different style possibilities with quick, fun words and absolutely beautiful photographs of young children sporting the different 'dos. Each of these children are beautiful and so are all of their various hairstyles. I adored this book and would absolutely include it in my classroom library, where I know my kids would also love looking at it.
Thank you to the publisher for fulfilling my review request via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I read this book this morning and it was a quick read.
The photos used in the book are nice and bright and toddlers will love them – my daughter is 2 and she thought that they were great!
The book had a great way of showing some of the different hair styles that they may see throughout the day or week and it showcases how cool some children’s hair can be – a sweet read!
Pictures of joyful children with hair left natural or styled to celebrate are the focus of this book. There isn't much content, but this would be enjoyable for babies and toddlers.
This book is just the book young children need to read. It depicts different hair styles and how each child is accepting of theirs and loves their hair's uniqueness. Absolutely love this!
Amazon isn't letting me post my review right now but I'll post one on my Instagram account and post on amazon when it allows me too.
This book is really cute and a great way to show babies natural hairstyles. I know black and bi-racial children are exposed to criticism for their hair at a very young age (my friends little boy was already making self conscious statements about his when he was 2) and I think any book that shows them that their hair is natural and normal and that there isn't anything at all wrong with it, is a good book. It can also be used to expose children of other races to different hairstyles so they also realize that not everyone has hair like them and that thats not a bad thing (this is why I get my own daughter books like this - exposure and inclusivity in books is important for all kids). My kid liked looking at the other kids in the book and their different hair, so I may buy her a copy when it's released.
My Hair is Beautiful is a cute little board book with beautiful photographs of children with different hairstyles. The author has a two-word spoken word description on each photograph that describes the hair in a positive and cute way. The book is colorful and ends with a mirror so the child can be included in the hair celebration. The one thing I wish was different is that there was a little more writing on each page to really put more positivity into the book.
