What a great book
The plot twists in this book are amazing and I didn’t guess any of them.
The characters and the plot are so believable. Another great book by this author
Couldn’t get past the first couple of pages; just something about it wasn’t sticking for me. I had this with the one other Louise Candlish book I read, so I think it’s safe to say this author isn’t for me.
Due to a sudden, unexpected passing in the family a few years ago and another more recently and my subsequent (mental) health issues stemming from that, I was unable to download this book in time to review it before it was archived as I did not visit this site for several years after the bereavements. This meant I didn't read or venture onto netgalley for years as not only did it remind me of that person as they shared my passion for reading, but I also struggled to maintain interest in anything due to overwhelming depression. I was therefore unable to download this title in time and so I couldn't give a review as it wasn't successfully acquired before it was archived. The second issue that has happened with some of my other books is that I had them downloaded to one particular device and said device is now defunct, so I have no access to those books anymore, sadly.
This means I can't leave an accurate reflection of my feelings towards the book as I am unable to read it now and so I am leaving a message of explanation instead. I am now back to reading and reviewing full time as once considerable time had passed I have found that books have been helping me significantly in terms of my mindset and mental health - this was after having no interest in anything for quite a number of years after the passings. Anything requested and approved will be read and a review written and posted to Amazon (where I am a Hall of Famer & Top Reviewer), Goodreads (where I have several thousand friends and the same amount who follow my reviews) and Waterstones (or Barnes & Noble if the publisher is American based). Thank you for the opportunity and apologies for the inconvenience.
As I have read Louise Candlish before I knew I wasn’t going to be disappointed with her latest offering.
Plenty of twists and turns on offer. You think you have a grasp of what’s coming next and then she takes you in a total other direction.
Twists and turns in this book. This is the first from this author that I have read and I enjoyed their writing style. Loved the storyline and the characters. Highly recommend
Entertaining & twisty I really enjoyed this one!
Thought it dragged a bit after the big reveal which is why it's 4⭐ not 5.
Not a terrible book but definitely not the book I was expecting or hoping for. It took me a few attempts to get into this book and unfortunately I didn't connect to the story or characters.
I tried several times to get into this book and really struggled to connect with the characters. I also have it on audiobook so I will pick it up again another time
This was a brilliant read and is being featured on my blog for my quick star reviews feature, which I have created on my blog so I can catch up with all the books I have read and therefore review.

Perhaps surprisingly, my favourite activity to do whilst on holiday is read. This may seem strange coming from someone who spends all day every day reading for their job, but either I'm a sucker for punishment, or I am just a little obsessed with the written word – you take your pick!
One of the books I lost myself in over the week we were away was @louisecandlish's latest novel, THE OTHER PASSENGER. The story is set around these two couples, Clare and Jamie – the Generation X 'successful' middle-aged couple – and Melia and Kit – the broke 'snowflakes' who think life (Generation X, actually) has thrown them a rubbish hand – who, although seemingly polar opposites, are thrown together and get on like a house on fire. Until things take an unexpected turn.
The writing is captivating and I was totally engrossed in Jamie's narrative, and although, in my opinion, none of the characters are particularly likeable, I was still utterly invested in what would happen next. And of course, as Candlish is known for her plot twists, and this was indeed no exception!
A brilliant immersive read that will have you flipping the pages no end. Suspense done right!
This book kept me guessing right to the end. What a character Melia was,you never knew what she was thinking.A real page turner of a book.I read it in two days as really wanted to know what happened in the end.
"It all happens so quickly. One day you're living the dream, commuting to work by riverbus with your charismatic neighbour Kit in the seat beside you. The next, Kit hasn't turned up for the boat and his wife Melia has reported him missing.
When you get off at your stop, the police are waiting. Another passenger saw you and Kit arguing on the boat home the night before and the police say that you had a reason to want him dead. You protest. You and Kit are friends - ask Melia, she'll vouch for you. And who exactly is this other passenger pointing the finger? What do they know about your lives?
No, whatever danger followed you home last night, you are innocent, totally innocent. Aren't you?"
A brilliant psychological thriller by Louise Candlish that lived up to all the hype and praise I had heard surrounding this book.
A tangle of lives, lies, love, deceit, double crossing and death. This book had everything and the pace did not let up for a moment and kept me reading late into the night, as I was so involved with the characters and the story I was reluctant to leave them and close the book.
A new Author for me, but one I will definitely be looking out for more books from.
So many twists and turns here! Just when you think you know what's going on, you're hit with another big twist that throws everything into question. By the end, it's hard to know what the truth is. I couldn't stop reading and was totally hooked.
I listened to the audiobook and so my review will reflect that.
This was a such a gripping audiobook!
I don’t tend to listen or read a lot of domestic dramas because they’re normally full of unlikeable characters and I want to engage with likeable characters instead. This was a good mix of characters that I could empathise with and dislike. I really liked Jamie the main character who tells the whole story of how he and his partner Clare became close friends with Kit and Melia. I wasn’t too sure about them at all and at times intensely disliked them, and really couldn’t understand why Jamie and Claire stayed friends with them.
As the plot and characters developed I learnt more and more about all of them and began to suspect what was going to happen next. I guessed some of the twists, but not all, especially one that came about three quarters of the way through the audiobook that was really really clever! And that ending!
The narration by Steve Mackintosh was fantastic, a new-to-me narrator who I’ll definitely be on the look out for in the future. He brought Jamie, Claire, Kit, Melia and all the other characters to life so expertly, it was a really enjoyable listening experience.
I highly recommend this if you enjoy crime and domestic dramas on audio.
Thank you for the advanced copy of this book.
This is not the first book I have read by Louise and it won't be the last but it didn't hook my quite as quickly as the other books I have read.
There were loads of twists and turns and once finally hooked I couldn't put it down and stayed up to finish it and was so convinced I had the plot sorted but things were not quite as they seemed. I love a book that keeps me guessing and this certainly did. Edge of the seat, yes eventually but not to start with but I would recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Great plot, good characters, fabulous setting. Recommended,
This isn't my favourite book i've read of Candlish's but it definitely wasn't bad. This was more a slow burn thriller but still had the twists and mystery i enjoy. There was a lot of swearing which could be off putting to some. Over all a good read.
A gripping thriller.
When Jamies friend and fellow river bus passsenger Kit goes missing Jamie is stunned to find out he's a person of interest to the police. Yes he and Kit argued that night but that had just been the drink. There's no way he would have hurt Kit. Since Kit and Melia entered Jamie and Clares life everything has become more exciting, in ways Jamie could of only dreamed of...but this dream is about to become a nightmare.
This is my first Louise Candlish novel. I'm not sure why though. I picked it thinking I'd read her books before but as soon as I started reading I realised my mistake... This author definitely knows how to grab a reader! It's a thoroughly enjoyable read with characters you'll be rooting for... Rooting for them to get their comeuppance that is. Seriously there isn't one likeable character in this book. Which is usually a deal breaker for me but not so with this book. There is a lull mid way but stick with it. The final act is worth it!
This story follows Jamie following the disappearance of his friend Kit and it is suspected that Jamie is involved with the disappearance.
The first portion of the book was interesting and I was intrigued to find out what happened to Kit. It quickly became apparent that Jamie was not reliable and it seemed even more likely that he was involved with the disappearance. I kept thinking that a big twist was going to happen but I was disappointed when this did not happen. The twist felt predictable and I wasn't shocked by the reveal.
Overall this book was ok. I liked the setting (London waterboat) however I felt in places the plot moved a little too slowly and the plot was fairly predictable.
I was disappointed in The Other Passenger by Louise Candlish. This book didn’t hook me in like Louise’s other books and wasn’t as good. I felt it was really slow in places, not thrilling at all and I really struggled with it.
