I am a big fan of Louise Candlish, so when I was given the chance to read this book I was overjoyed.

The book features a complex, fast paced story line of love, friendship and deception.
Jamie's life is pretty good, he lives in a lavish house with his long term partner, and a job which he loves.
When Jamie starts taking the boat to work he meets Kit, and their lives soon become entwined in many ways.

The characters in this book are compelling, and you never quite know who is the innocent party which just makes this book more addictive.

This book had me hooked from start to finish. Brilliantly written, fast paced and full of twists and turns... it's a must read.

Thank you to Louise Candlish, Simon & Schuster and Netgalley for providing me with an ARC of this book for my honest review.

This gave me chills down the back of my neck from the off. A smug ride to work becomes suddenly far more than a normal day in this character’s world. But with so many twists and turns we’re carried along on a wave of adrenaline that throws us all off course!

This is the best book by Louise Candish I've read so far. Every time I thought I'd figured out what was going on I was wrong. I hated the characters but couldn't stop reading about them. My only criticism would be that at times it felt a bit drawn out. Other than that I would recommend this book.

This book was a bit of a slow start for me particularly in the first third, but I knew that Louise wouldn't let me down. Boy am I glad I persevered. This was utterly fantastic. Gripping, shocking and I didn't see the end coming at all. Amazing 5*

This is my first book by Candlish but I can tell you it won’t be my last, a phrase I’m sure the writer has heard before many times. It’s unlike me not to read a book straight after I get my grubby hands on it but, just like a kid savouring that last bite of chocolate, I saved the best book until last.

Four characters: 2 couples, (one middle-aged, the other young), strike up an unusual friendship with devastating consequences. A high-level intricate plot that will keep you, the reader, on their toes and with the explosive ending we expect from this genre.

The writing is strong, the characterisations a little too close to comfort to be truly likeable. Here Candlish deals with flawed personalities but who, looking in that mirror, isn’t flawed?

A brilliantly crafted novel, both in technique and descriptive characterisations. I’ll be back for more…soon.

Excellent book by Louise Candlish, kept me reading late into the night keen to find out the next twist in this tale. Clare and Jamie, a seemingly contented middle aged couple meet Melia and Kit who are younger and definitely more reckless. Their friendship turns sinister and their lives begin to unravel. Gripping with an excellent twist at the end, I would thoroughly recommended!

I couldn’t take my eyes away!

The Other Passenger was brilliant, full of twists and turns with explosive characters. There’s a great tension throughout the book that really helped set the scene.

I don’t know if the plot was supposed to be obvious but leaving the reader filled with horror as they realise what’s going on? Well that was my experience.

Jamie and Clare are married and living in London. Clare is an ambitious estate agent, Kit is a barista having left the insurance industry after having a slight meltdown on the tube. Clare introduces Jamie to her new colleague Melia and her partner Kit and a friendship strikes up. Jamie explains his problems travelling on the tube and himself and Kit decide to start taking the ferry into London. Both Melia and Kit are failed actors and Kit seems to have a chip on his shoulder about money. The two couples become involved with each other in more ways than one. The story starts a few days after Christmas when Jamie is travelling to work and notices that Kit is missing. Shortly after he is approached by two detectives to speak to him about Kit as it seems that Kit is missing and Jamie was the last person to see him.
Yet again Louise Candlish writes a thrilling story! It is a mystery with many twists and turns. It is tension filled and at times you do not know which way is up.

Thank you to Netgalley, the publisher and author for giving me an arc in exchange for an honest review

Oh my goodness what an original and exciting thriller! A middle ages couple meet a younger couple of failed actors and become friends-with devastating consequences! Plots and subplots and red herrings galore until the totally surprise ending . .I found myself galloping through the final chapters desperate for answers. .I wasn't expecting that! Highly recommend

This is my first book by this author but it won’t be my last. I was truly gripped from the start and wasn’t expecting the plot whatsoever. Fantastic book that will stay with me for some time

Having already read 'Our House', which I really enjoyed and have recommended to lots of people, I was excited to have the opportunity to read the latest by Louise Candlish. I certainly wasn't disappointed - this a gripping crime thriller with all manner of twists and turns. It opens with middle aged Jamie taking his usual commute to work, on the Thames riverboat. when he finds out his fellow commuter and sort-of-friend Kit has gone missing. Jamie arrives at his stop to be greeted by two police offers, who coax out of him the story of the year he has known Kit - but that's only half the story... It's fortunate that the story is so compelling as every single character here is extremely unlikable, to the point that it comes hard to care what will happen to them. A binge-worthy read that lives a little bitterness in its place.

I loved Candlish’s book ‘our house’ , but i struggled to get into this one. I loved the plot and direction of the book and is usually exactly what i love in a suspensive thriller but the characters didnt pop for me so i did not finish it.

I usually like Louise Candlish books but I found this one hard to get into. Well writen with a complex plot. However, it was another one of those when I did not like any of the characters or the way they were carrying on. I realise that for some people life is like this but I got fed up with the tawdry accounts of affairs going on and the moaning of the guys off to work each day. Sorry it might be a good thriller but the other life around it was not for me.

Could really see this as an ITV drama...

Jamie struggles with claustrophobia so getting the ferry along the Thames to work is perfect for his to get to his job in a coffee shop - a job that his wealthy wife feels is beneath him and is encouraging him with some job coaching to get back to the position she feels he should be in.

Jamie meanwhile is enjoying being part of the 'water rats' a group of four people who commute on the ferry. He strikes up a strange friendship with fellow passenger Kit who then becomes part of Jamie's social circle with his girlfriend Melia and Jamie's wife Clare. Kit and Melia are younger and come across as envious of Jamie and Clare's wealth.

Then, Kit disappears and that's when secrets really come out....like the almost year long affair Jamie has been having with Kit's now wife, Melia.

Loved the twists and turns and kept me gripped to an ending I hadn't anticipated!

Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book - this is my honest opinion.

An inventive tale which pivots into directions you won’t expect, taking the reader on a delightful meandering journey of deception. Candlish is very accomplished at sprinkling subtle clues like crumbs so that when you reach the end of the trail, it all seems so obvious and yet it’s really not when you are getting quickly wrapped up in the lives of her characters. She’s fantastic at misdirection and surprise endings. I thoroughly enjoyed The Other Passenger.

Big thank you to @netgalley & @simon for approving me to read this ARC!

You’re feeling pretty smug about your commute to work by riverboat. No more traffic gridlock or getting stuck on the tube in tunnels (you’re claustrophobic). Now you’ve got fresh air, an iconic Thames view, a whole lifestyle upgrade. You’ve made new friends on board — led by your hedonistic young neighbour, Kit — and just had your first official ‘water rats’ get-together.

Review 💫

So it took me quite a few chapters to get into this book before it got me hooked but when it did I LOVED it! 😍 It was gripping and had you wanting to know what happens next. I had my own theories along the way. Not quite what actually happened but I had some idea. It showed friendships, rivalry, and what people would really do to get what they want.

Once the dots started connecting I literally sat there and thought what is happening! 😳 I mean I expected some bits but when it all unravelled I couldn't believe it. Was definitely the sort of book you'd see as a series.

My favourite thing about this book is the ending. Without giving any spoilers.. Some books like this end and leave you having questions whereas for me this book literally ended it all perfect.

A really brilliant read. A very twisty story full of surprises. I found it a touch slow to start but soon got into it and found it difficult to put down, then the last few pages seemed somewhat dragged out but this did not effect my enjoyment.
Thanks to Netgalley..

Ooh! I do like a good book and The Other Passenger from Louise Candlish is a good book! A twisty, turny story where I thought I knew what was what only for the plot to twist yet again.
Jamie and Kit share a commute on a London riverboat, their partners Clare and Melia work for the same company, a friendship develops and the twists and turns begin.
Just after Christmas on his morning commute Jamie is met by the police and informed Kit has been reported missing. The drama and story of the past year unfolds. What follows is a well plotted, well written tale and although you may not like all, or indeed any, of the characters, you will enjoy this rollercoaster of a read.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers and the author for an advance copy of this book.
