Having read all of Catherine’s books up until now, I can safely say in my opinion, The Nothing Man is her best and most accomplished book to date. Gripping, taut and compelling, I found that I couldn’t put it down. I really enjoyed the idea of the book within a book, and thought it was really clever how she managed to blend them seamlessly. Highly recommended for sure.

Eva Blackman was twelve years old when her mum, dad and younger sister Anna were murdered by the serial killer who they named The Nothing Man. He was never found and bought to justice.
Years later, she decides she is going to catch him, so writes a true crime memoir, about his victims and her own experience that she had. She hopes that it will generate new leads, that someone will remember something which will finally bring him to justice.

This story is told through the past and the present through Eve’s memoir. It was superbly written and is very clever how it is a book within a book. It is very easy to read, has a good storyline and also had some really interesting facts about serial killers along the way.

Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher Atlantic Books for an opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

Absolutely brilliant. I didn't think anyone could do book within a book better than Anthony Horowitz but Catherine Ryan Howard has does a belter of a job. This is no who dun it we live through both sides of the story right up until the author pulls the carpet from under our feet. Superb writing.

The book is mainly the point of view from Eve Black, a surviving victim of a serial killer, nick-named, The Nothing Man and how she writes a book about the killer and his reaction to the book. An interesting and enjoyable read where you know the killer but want to find out if or how he gets caught. Interesting to read how Eve copes after the traumatic night when her family are killed and reads like a true story, feeling realistic.

Thrilling, unputdownable, gruesome, unique!

This is how I can describe this book!
I found it to be quite uniquely written and loved how the Serial Killer is actually reading a book of its crimes. I simply loved the narrative and the way it was written!

The Nothing Man’s crimes are gruesome and I have to admit, I made sure all my windows and door were locked after reading it! I actually think my heart skipped some beats during the reading and I was actually pleased I finished it during the day and wasn’t alone in the house!

Saying that the books is thrilling and has a fair amount of great twists and I just couldn’t stop reading it!

I found it really creative and also really enjoyed the ending! I can’t wait to read more by Catherine Ryan Howard - and hopefully be a little bit less scared!

If you don’t mind some detailed crime facts and simply love a thrilling crime book with unique writing, this is definitely the book for you!

I would like to thank Netgalley, Atlantic Books and Corvus for an advanced copy of this great novel in exchange for an honest review

Cleverly plotted and compulsive, this reminded me why I liked psycholgical thrillers. The lone survivor of the brutal massacre of her family by a serial killer known as the Nothing Man because he leaves no evidence, has spent her life setting a trap for him. I loved how the tables were turned here. Highly recommend.

A book within a book! ‘The Nothing Man’ is a clever psychological thriller of the planned entrapment and revenge on a brutal killer who thinks he’s gotten away his cruel crimes. But has he? Page-turner indeed!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Atlantic books for an advanced copy of this book.

As I was reading the book it crossed my mind a few times whether or not this was going to turn out to be a true story. This is because it was so cleverly written.
Eve Black came up with the idea to write a story about the murder of her family by a man the police knew absolutely nothing about. Hence his name. The idea was to hopefully gain more information about who he was and solve the crime. What she couldn’t have planned for was that the murderer actually read the book and planned to stop her in her tracks. Clever and suspenseful ending.
I look forward to reading more from this author.

This book is so well written I wasn't sure whether or not it was a true story. It had my interest all the way through & I couldn't wait to pick it up again. Thoroughly enjoyed this story; will look for more by this author.

With an opening line “I was the girl who survived the Nothing Man. Now I am the woman who is going catch him.” I knew I was in for a treat with this book and I was not disappointed.

Eve Black was 12 when her mother, father and sister Anna were murdered by the man named “The Nothing Man” as he leaves no evidence at the crime scenes. Eve was the sole survivor as she hid in the bathroom.

Eve is writing a book about the killer, as he was never caught. She is hoping to catch him and interviews families of his other victims to see if they are linked in any way. She is playing cat and mouse with the killer hoping to entice him out.

Security guard Jim Doyle is reading Eve’s book and is fixated on this story ... well he is the Nothing Man and he is beginning to regret that he let Eve live. Surely his secret is safe after all these years!!

This is such an addictive book. I’m glad I didn’t read this whilst on my own, as it gave me chills jumping at every slight noise in my house!!

Reading about the other victims made this story really come to life. I was desperate for Eve to work out who the Nothing Man was and nothing could drag me away from this book.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for a review.

My heart is still pounding as I write this review. I used to have 2 favourite books, I now have 3. Heart stoppingly amazing! This gripped me from the first page and did not let go and left me reading until the small hours. I am an avid reader and love a good crime novel but this has to be one of the best books I have ever read. Eve Black is the last surviving victim of a serial killer who writes about her ordeal in the hope of catching her killer. The book is so cleverly written as we read the book through the killers eyes. "Wow!... well done Catherin Ryan. This is the first book I have read of Catherine Ryan's and I have now just purchased y0ur previous books. I am definitely purchasing additional copies of this book for my family and friends to also enjoy.

This has to be one of the most unusual books to be published. The theme is based on a real life serial killer operating in Cork,Ireland. The author,Eve Black, was the sole surviving member of her family on the night the killer murdered her parents and sister. The police admitted they had 'nothing' on the killer whose final killing spree was Eve's family. Thus the title The Nothing Man. Eve as an adult sets out to investigate what is known about the killings and hopes that by publishing what she finds she might flush out the now silent killer. Much of the book is Eve's account of her memory of that night and new evidence she discovers in her search. Then as an author she intersperses the account of her search with the reaction of the murderer when he discovers her newly published book. He is badly shaken by the renewed attention, reads the book and decides to take action. He does not know all that she has discovered nor does he know that there is someone close who knows his secret. The book ends not just with the obvious result but with unexpected twists adding to its compulsive reading. This story is superbly well written, the characters well described and the tension high. It says it all that a mystery where the reader knows the perpitrator from page one can still make you desperate to know how it ends. This is a superb achievement. Read it'

A very clever book about a book being written to catch a killer and the killer reading the book!
A great premise with the story being told by Eve, the survivor of the Nothing Man, in her book and the Nothing man himself spotting it and reading it as he works in a mall as a security guard.
Having never been caught for the crimes he committed 20 years previous he is now paranoid that Eve will identify him and lead to his arrest.
A well paced read that keeps you hooked despite knowing whodunit right from the outset. I would have liked to know a bit more about his motivations for the crimes he committed and more about why he stopped but that is merely picking tiny holes in a great plot!

Creepy and entertaining, this whodunnit starts by telling is who...er.. dun it. The rest is an enjoyable romp through the backstory to a series of attacks and murders a couple of decades after they happened. I quite liked the structure and the enterprising heroine who sets about exposing the monster who killed her family.

The chance of a good nights sleep became a thing of the past for quite a while after reading this book. When I went to bed every little noise became a turn of the key in my door, a footstep on the landing and the sound of someone breathing. It was all down to reading The Nothing Man. What an atmospheric read it was! Tense, scary and definitely under the covers reading and when the sun goes down, to get those extra goosebump moments.
Eve Black had been the only survivor when her family had been murdered by The Nothing Man, a name given to him because he never left any clues about himself behind. Almost twenty years on Eve still struggles with the night her mother, father and younger sister were brutally murdered. As part of her ongoing recovery, she had written a book about The Nothing Man and the families that he destroyed, in the hope that new evidence may still be out there. One man is desperate to read the book, after all, it is about him…..
What a terrific story told by Eve and by the serial killer, who had laid dormant all these years. The story drops back to the crimes that he committed, who he was and how he had easily blended into society so that no-one would ever suspect him of being such a high profile killer.
Eve is an exceptional character whose confidence and determination grows throughout the book. The killer, on the other hand, really does instil fear into you, arrogant, angry and playing the part of blending into normal life, be it without friends. Eve certainly knows how to push this man’s buttons to try and finish what he began all those years ago.
This is a mint read, very highly recommended.
I wish to thank NetGalley and the publisher for an e-copy of this book which I have reviewed honestly.

I started this book, gave up and then started again and glad I did. It is the story of a girl whose family are killed by the mysterious Nothing Man. He was never caught, but will writing a book about him make him come out of the woodwork?
It wasn't as dramatic as I'd hoped, but after giving it a second chance I enjoyed it.

What a brilliant concept, to write a book about a woman writing a book and also giving the focus of the book a voice too!
This book caused me a late night as I couldn’t put it down. It was fascinating with twists and turns and I really could not have predicted the ending. Great stuff!
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.
