Not My Daughter by Suzy K Quinn is my first from this author but not my last.

The book opens with Lorna and her sister registering the birth of Lorna’s daughter, but something is clearly not right.

We then watch the plot unfold in two timelines, the present and the past when just 16 years old Lorna meets Michael for the first time. A quick easy read with a few good twists I didn’t see coming.

A good debut.
It was compelling and kept me reading.
The ending was a bit unrealistic but it was very unpredictable
A well written mystery thriller debut

What a twisted life Lorna led and it’s all coming back to the surface as her daughter wants to find her dad. A man Lorna has been hiding from for years. But why??! What happened to make her hide?

I dont want to give too much away about Lorna’s story as the blurb really doesn’t say much about Liberty’s dad and his relationship with Lorna and there’s #nospoilers here! But what I will say is Lorna’s dream did not pay off!

Having read Quinn’s The Bad Mother’s Christmas, I was very interested to see whether I’d enjoy the darker side of her writing… I’ve got to say I really did! Not My Daughter is a tense thriller that jumps from the present to Lorna’s past, between Lorna’s voice and later on Liberty’s. The change of timeline and narrators kept my curious mind in the dark as to where I was heading. I’ve got myself more of Quinn’s novels from both sides of her writing spectrum as well as her nonfiction offering Lies We Tell Mothers to enjoy!

Excellently written. A proper thriller book. Flowed really well. Thank you to both the publishers and NetGalley for gifting me this book

A solid, well written thriller. It’s hard to find originality in domestic thrillers but this was a decent story that kept me interested and entertained. It’s my first book by the author and I was not disappointed.

Not my daughter by Suzy K. Quinn.
Lorna never told her sixteen-year-old daughter the chilling truth about her real father. But one morning, she finds Liberty missing — and realizes the teenager has left to find the man she once fled from…
This was a good read with good characters. Only character I didn't like was Michael. I liked the ending. 4*.

It's one thing to be trapped in a situation with someone who is an expert manipulator but it is quite another to be trapped in one with someone who is a global star.

Or is this really a case of fandom turned obsessive stalker? Lorna has built her entire life on a bed of lies, which is what makes her sensitive to any intrusion from the outside world. She keeps her daughter Liberty so isolated and caged that the teenager has started to rebel against the very strict rules her mother has put in place.

Little does Lorna know that Liberty is ten steps ahead of her mother when it comes to breaking free and finding out what Lorna has been hiding all these years. She is off to find the mysterious father her mother has kept her away from her entire life. A rock star, a living legend who lives in the middle of his own forest just a few miles away.

Quinn presents a not entirely uncommon situation - a he said she said dilemma. Is she an insane fan or is he a skilled manipulator? By putting the world of celebrity into the equation it amplifies the imbalance of power and the lack of support potential victims encounter.

Without drawing specific attention to it the author also shows the position of strength a powerful person can manipulate from. A platform can be used to influence fans and followers, which always puts the non-celebrity in a weaker position.

It's an emotional fast-paced read with a nice wicked twist at the end.

This is a quick paced, twisty, enjoyable thriller.

I'm not sure it felt entirely believable to me but was a fun read regardless of that!

Liberty has never known who her father was, having been brought up by her mother and not let out of her sight as she was told her father is a nasty man who her Mum is scared of still.

Liberty is not going to have this, however, and sets out to find him despite her Mum.

And she does. Turns out he is rock star Michael Reyji Ray, and having found out who he is she sets out to visit him – finding his address is right near theirs (an odd thing if her Mum is so set against him she thinks.)

Thus follows a whole bunch of he said/she said types of stories and you don’t find out who is telling the truth till the end. Is he a manipulative killer who preys on barely legal girls? Or was her Mum a little nuts back then, making up stories of her relationship with a rock star?

Starts off a bit slow but builds up and has a gripping dramatic ending!!!! A bit far fetched but a good read !!! Tells the story of a daughter who wants to know about her father, but her mother has her own reasons to keep it secret!

When I started reading I wasn’t sure.... but so glad I continued. It’s such an easy read, predictable but enjoyable.

Thanks for the arc.

I did enjoy this book but I found the lead character, Lorna, really hard to like. She was as selfish and obsessive at 33 as she had been at 17 and to be honest I don't know how her lovely partner Nick put up with her. I thought the secret around Liberty was a bit predictable but the author threw in another couple of twists that left me stunned. Not as good as some of Suzy Quinn's earlier books but still a good read that I would recommend.

This book was SO good! One of my favourite reads of the year so far. I have read 'Don't Tell Teacher' another novel by Suzy K Quinn so I knew to expect great things, but this was such a fast pacey thrilling story with a surpising ending. I read it in one sitting, I didn't want to go to bed until it was over.

A brilliant psychological thriller with well written characters and a great storyline.I will be recommending to my book loving friends!

Thanks to netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my review.
