The second Bree Taggert book, See Her Die is a compelling suspense. A great read with diverse characters and a dynamic storyline that kept me reading from beginning to end. Melinda Leigh is fast becoming a must read and recommend for me and I look forward to reading more.

See Her Die by Melinda Leigh is the 2nd book in the Bree Taggert mystery series, and my first book by this author. I really enjoyed this book, so much that as soon as I finished it, I bought the 1st book in the series, Cross Her Heart. I suggest you read them the other way around, but now I'm ready for the next book. Bree Taggert is the new sheriff, and when she arrives at the crime site, they find nothing. I found this book to be fast-paced, and like a roller coaster ride with it's ups and downs. This book has a well developed plot and characters. I strongly recommend this book to all mystery book lovers, like me.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This series is so good. I again found myself going “I didn’t see that coming” through out the book. I love an unpredictable book. I normally have the villain figured out within the first 10 chapters of a book, but not this one. The characters are fantastic, the plot is devious, and the suspense is fantastic! I cannot wait for the next one!

Book #2 in the Bree Taggert series - I found I enjoyed it more than the first book (which can happen). The blended family dynamics of Bree's life are different and woven throughout the book but not focused on. Having her retired ex-police partner and an artist brother help to manage the household and watch over her niece and nephew gives her the freedom to work whatever hours are needed for the job. A bizarrely ideal situation.

As this is a romantic suspense, there is a love interest with an ex-police canine officer, but the romance takes a back seat to solving multiple murders. Some people would prefer more romance, but I myself prefer when the murder mystery takes center stage.

The murder mystery starts with an unreliable witness who sees a friend murdered but no body is found, to finding another murdered victim and a missing person. Bree and her "friend", Matt, acting as consultant on the case are trying to determine if the cases are related and find the perp. It's a good solid mystery and a satisfying conclusion.

Definitely recommend to fans of Ms. Leigh and this genre.

4.5 Hearts I tried the first book in the series because a friend likes Melinda Leigh’s books. I picked up the second one because the first was so good.

I really thought the beginning of this story was interesting. Bree, as the new sheriff, is called in on a murder-that-wasn’t. Meaning she gets to the crime scene and there is no there. Not even a victim. So how can she investigate?

She calls in Matt Flynn and his K9. And then up pops a murder of a University student and now Bree has to figure out what these murders and the murders that come after have to do with each other.

I like Bree. I like her as a Sheriff, as an Aunt, as a potential romantic partner with Matt and just in general as a “person”.

I really look forward to the next on in the series.

New sheriff Bree Taggert is called out in the middle of the night for a shooting at a campground that is closed for the winter. When her team arrives, they find one girl hiding in a closet. She swears she saw her friend, Harper, shot. The trouble is there is no blood and no body to be found anywhere. Bree investigates in spite of the lack of a victim. But a victim is found -- under the ice on the lake. It’s a twenty-something year old male. Now there are two victims. As Bree and her team try to figure this out there are reports of missing men. All of them are roommates at the local college. Are the disappearances and the shooting connected? Bree isn’t entirely sure that the deputies in her department are on her side. She calls in a retired deputy who doubles as a K-9 handler for backup. Bree’s personal life mixes in with the investigation. I intend to read the first book of this series to get more background on that. I also am looking forward to the next installment in this series.

Book two in Melinda Leigh’s new series of mystery/suspense novels featuring Bree Taggert, See Her Die, opens just three weeks after the events of Cross Her Heart. A former Philadelphia detective, Bree’s life underwent a major upheaval when she returned home to the small upstate New York town of Grey’s Hollow – somewhere that holds few pleasant memories for her – in order to investigate the murder of her sister Erin. By the end of the book, Bree has decided to remain in Grey’s Hollow to become the guardian to Erin’s two children, Luke (sixteen) and Kayla (eight) and to take the position of Sheriff, following the departure of the previous holder of the office, whose blatant corruption had been public knowledge but whom nobody had been able to dislodge.

When See Her Die begins, Bree is still struggling to adapt to her new life and responsibilities. She’s not sleeping well (Kayla sometimes has nightmares and has taken to creeping into bed with her at night), she’s worried about Luke, who has become very quiet and incommunicative, she’s not completely sure which of her deputies she can trust, her department is underfunded and understaffed… it’s a long list of problems to sort out all the while she’s working to ensure the safety of everyone in the local community.

A call in the early hours of the morning sees Bree heading out to a local campground that is – supposedly – closed for the winter, following a 911 call from a young woman who says she saw her friend get shot. When Bree and her deputies arrive, there’s no sign of a body or evidence of a shooting – and no sign of the person who made the call, until Bree and one of her deputies enter one of the cabins, where they find a terrified young woman who says her name is Alyssa Vaughan and that her friend Harper was shot out in the woods. With no body or evidence, Bree has to consider the possibility that Alyssa may have made it all up, or have committed the murder herself… but something tells her that while Alyssa is definitely hiding something, that something isn’t murder.

Meanwhile, Bree’s friend, former K-9 handler Matt Flynn, has been asked by his sister Cady to look into the disappearance of Eli Whitney, a student at the university and the grandson of an elderly lady who fosters senior dogs for Cady’s rescue centre. Matt took medical retirement from the Sheriff’s department after he was shot in the hand in the line of duty some three years earlier, and he’s setting up a K-9 training facility – or he would, if his sister didn’t keep filling up his kennels with her rescue dogs! He agrees to ask around to see if he can find out what might have happened to Eli.

Later that day, Bree and her team are back out at the campground, still searching for evidence of a shooting and not finding much – until they turn up a set of footprints and tracks in the snow. At this point, Bree decides to see if they can borrow a K-9 unit from the state police – but it’s nothing doing; all their available K-9s are searching for a missing student. With the light fading and snow threatening, her chief deputy suggests she call in Matt Flynn and Brody (his service dog) – and Bree is just a little conflicted. On the one hand, Matt’s connection to the department is not an easy one (he was shot by a fellow deputy and still suspects it may have been deliberate), but on the other she trusts him, and it would feel great to know someone has her back.

Matt agrees to help, and before long Brody is hot on the trail and leads Bree and Matt to the cracked ice around a boat ramp where, bobbing between long, jagged sheets of ice, is a human hand. The hand belongs to the body of a young man who is unidentifiable due to the damage done to his face, which looks as though it’s been pulverised in an act of brutal rage. Is this the shooter? If it is, they have yet to find the victim. And if it isn’t the shooter, could it be the missing student?

I love watching the way Melinda Leigh sets out what are seemingly different storylines and then slowly pulls them together until they coalesce and we can see how the pieces all fit as part of the larger whole. The plot in See Her Die is complex, clever and well-executed and Bree is a tough, likeable and relatable heroine, a woman who is juggling so many balls in the air that she has no time for a life outside of work and her newly acquired family. I also appreciated the peek into what it takes to run a sheriff’s department in a large but sparsely populated rural area, and felt for Bree as she wondered who among her staff she could really trust.

I enjoyed the story, but it would be remiss of me not to point out that for a book categorised as romantic suspense, the romance here is peripheral at best. Matt is a lovely guy and he and Bree have great chemistry, so the lack of romantic development was a bit of a disappointment – BUT what we do get here is them working together again and I loved watching the professional side of their partnership develop. Matt is such a wonderful support for Bree when she needs it, he’s a cool head in a crisis and, as Bree admits to herself, he’s smart and often sees connections she’s overlooked; they’re a great team, and it definitely seems that things are progressing on the romantic front by the time the book comes to a close.

In spite of the little bit of disappointment I experienced over the lack of romantic progression, I enjoyed See Her Die very much. The principals are likeable, the secondary cast is nicely drawn, the mystery is compelling, and it all adds up to a thoroughly entertaining read. I’ll definitely be back for book three when it’s released in Spring 2021.

Bree Taggert, the new sheriff of Grey's Hollow, NY, has barely gotten settled when a serial killer sets his sight on her town. Bree and her team are in a race to stop the killing before he strikes again.
This is a great series with many twists and turns to keep me guessing. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series.

Thank you to Netgalley and Montlake Publishing for providing a copy of this book for review.

Second in Melinda Leigh's Bree Taggert series, See Her Die is a fabulous blend of suspense and deception.

Bree Taggert is the new sheriff in town, literally. Finding her feet after uprooting herself from the city, she is called out to an unusual scene: no body, no blood, no apparent crime, but a witness who insists that someone killed her friend.

Calling on retired deputy Matt Flynn, they investigate and find more than they bargained for. Now the question is, not who, but how many victims there will be.

Page turning as always, Leigh remains at the top of my authors to read list. Fabulous!

See Her Die is book two in the Bree Taggart series. The narrative picks up where we left off in book one; Cross Her Heart. However, you can read this book as a standalone novel although I do recommend starting the series from the beginning.

Juggling life as the new sheriff and taking care of her niece and nephew along with her friend, Dana, Bree is struggling to find a work-life balance. The case she is working on is demanding and her deputies are not very co-operative.

Matt agrees to accept Bree's offer of working as a consultant, It's not full-time work but it acknowledges his expertise. It's an unexpected opportunity to work as an investigator again, although someone isn't too happy to have him around. The new arrangement means he can continue work with his K-9.

The primary focus between Bree and Matt is their working relationship, but it becomes clearer, the pair are developing feelings for each other. The subtlety of the connection means the case they are investigating isn't overshadowed. I expect that to change and am looking forward to seeing how the protagonists' attraction unfolds... two more books in the series are scheduled for release in 2021.

Overall, See Her Die is an engaging, suspenseful novel. If you're looking for an intense narrative with fascinating characters and intrigue, this is a book you need to read.

Bree Taggert has newly taken over the sheriff’s department and is once again helped by Matt Flynn and his dog Brody. This is the second in the series. There is a string of burglaries in a neighboring town, a girl claiming to see her friend shot, and a missing local boy. Are they related and can Bree and Matt solve these cases before there is any more tragedy?

Another great installment in the series.

I left reviews at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Books a million, Target, Google Books and Apple Books. The Apple Books review was on the audio book, because it didn't list a readable book.

Melinda Leigh has done it again! I stayed up far too late reading this and couldn't sleep afterward. She's a master at her craft.

This is the second book in the Bree Taggert series. She has recently taken over the sheriff position. She is dealing with a lot trying to take care of her sister’s children and get the department back in shape.
This is a intriguing edge of your seat drama with some crazy twists. A super slow burn romance and a mystery that keeps you guessing until the end.

Gosh!!! With every series, and every book, Melinda Leigh just does not disappoint at all and keeps the mystery and intensity of her writing at. a peak!

I am loving Bree Taggert. Newly minted sheriff and her newer partner in crime solving Matt Flynn, make a formidable pair, yet vulnerable with their insecurities and human faults. I've always loved Melinda's grasp of family dynamics, giving equal importance to the plot as well as the keeping the development of relationship in tandem.

A definite read, and don't miss her previous works, they are just as addictive!

M/F Mystery

This is the second book in this series and we are again, witness to a despicable crime. But the twist… where is the victim?

Bree Taggert is now sheriff and there are some in the department that are not happy about that. She knows that she has to have the confidence of the people too, especially since she’s brand new and needs more money for the department. But what is she to do when a victim calls in a murder and nobody can find evidence that said murder happened?

Matt Flynn is still his charming, self-confident self. I really liked him in this book. He was more of a secondary character, but his presence was one that could be felt. He gave Bree the courage to stand up and take control at times. He was also a calming person when things seemed to be spinning out of control.

The murders are well planned, thoughtful, and well executed – no pun intended. I really enjoyed this story. I liked that the romance was very background and not a driving force. The mystery was the main focus and I really enjoyed watching it unfold. I can’t wait for more of this series.

See Her Die is the second instalment in the Bree Taggert series. Bree is now sheriff and is grieving the loss of her sister while raising her sister’s children. She has a lot on her plate and recently canceled dinner with Matt. When a terrified, homeless young lady reports a shooting, Bree calls on Matt and his K-9 Brody for help in finding the missing victim. With Matt and Brody’s help a body is discovered, but is isn’t the body they are looking for.

The story had lots of little threads to keep you guessing as to who did what, why they did it, and how all the pieces fit together. A shooting with a witness but no victim, a dead body in the lake that isn’t the victim they are after, a missing local college student, local home burglary where jewels are stolen, and more. The story was thoroughly engaging and moved at a quick pace. There is plenty of danger during the investigation and the tension builds as all the pieces start to fall into place and the action-packed climax had me on the edge of my seat. It was so good.

The mystery and the crime solving are the star of this story for me, but I did love seeing Bree and Matt work together knowing their attraction and the potential for romance. See Her Die is an excellent romantic suspense novel and I look forward to reading more of this series and seeing Bree and Matt’s relationship develop.

Just as good as book one. Love strong flawed women characters and Bree has absolutely become one of my favorites. Filled with lots of twists and turns this winner of a book is not to be missed. Happy reading!

Bree and Matt are investigating a possible serial killer. She’s now the new sheriff, mom to her niece and nephew and battling her childhood trauma. Bree is the ultimate warrior and quick as a whip. The Dane sisters, from another series, make an appearance too. It’s a captivating story with plenty of twists and intriguing characters. I got more from Bree and Matt because I read the first book but it is not a requirement to enjoy the story. There’s a new mystery for each book. My copy was given through Netgalley.

On one hand, I love the characters Ms. Leigh creates. Bree is a strong and independent woman, despite her understandable fear of dogs, who is burning the candle at both ends with work and trying to raise her niece and nephew. I also appreciate the fine line the author walks with trying to keep Bree strong but at the same time developing romantic feelings towards Matt. Women can have both and that is something that is very obvious in this series and I like that. However, I think maybe Bree was too superwoman at parts during this story. No breaks for her to recharge. Not much downtime with her family. And definitely a few spots where she really shouldn't have been able to continue but did. I didn't quite get to the eye-rolling, but it came close near the end. And oddly enough, it was for the superhuman feats and not the romance! Also, this one includes some animal abuse. Not something I am a fan of but it was done well and resolved satisfactorily.

See Her Die is the second book in the Bree Taggert series by Melina Leigh. I read the first book in the series ( Cross Her Heart ) in record time, and I loved the author's writing style and the characters that she introduced us to over the course of the book, especially Bree Taggert and Matt Flynn. The elements that I loved from the first book were all reasons why I enjoyed this book as well.

We join Bree as she dives into her new role as small town sheriff. She's called to the scene of a shooting at a campground in the middle of the winter, where she finds the witness that called it in, but no trace of the shooter or the victim. As she dives into the case, Matt Flynn back as a consultant on the case, as they hurry to get to the bottom of the murders before more victims are added to the list.

Bree is a like-able main character, and I loved seeing another side of her as she's adjusting to her new role as sheriff and what that means for both her professional and personal life. Matt Flynn is a male lead that I can't help but love, but I wish the romance between them would have played more of a part to the story. The focus was on the case they were solving, and I hope the slow-burn relationship with potential between Bree and Matt is addressed in the next books.

Many thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the digital copy in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Review copy was received from NetGalley. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I really loved Cross Her Heart and have enjoyed reading Melinda Leigh's other series. I knew this Bree Taggert series was going to be special from the start. The world is somewhat connected to her other series, and Bree is in law enforcement.

Bree has been having some major adjustments to a new home with two children who are grieving, and a new high pressure job. She and Dana are so great with her niece and nephew, and do everything to help them live. Dana's great cooking doesn't hurt. Bree also has to deal with her own grief in losing Erin.

Bree is busy settling into her new job with staff who probably aren't happy to have an outsider and a female become the new sheriff. The department is seriously underfunded but she is figuring things out with her admin, Marge. I love Marge and look forward to more of her wisdom and support to Bree. Just as she is figuring things out, the disappearances and murders start. A disappearance was being worked by Stella Dane from Scarlett Falls and Matt was looking into it as a friend of the family. I was happy to see Stella and have her join the investigation, which connected into a burglary case of Stella's also. We also get a peek at Morgan Dane, too!

I always enjoy a police investigation and this one is improved by Matt and the K9 aspects. Matt's sister is raising and training dogs in his place, since he left the sheriff's department after his injury. Both Bree and Matt have plenty of personal issues to work through, and keep their attraction light. Dogs are an issue for Bree so she has to work hard to control herself.

Bree continues to deal with others with such compassion and caring. Even with all the personal stress, she works intelligently, and risks herself to help others and save lives. I admire her so much. There is just nothing I don't like about this series.
