When I read a Brittainy Cherry book, I fall for her words and her quotes before sinking into her story ... At the heart of which lies the importance of family and being there for each other no matter what.
The key symbol here is leaving the porch light on for the family members to find their way back home, when they get off track
The Wreckage of Us is a story about working hard and pursuing dreams, even coming from a small town ravaged by drugs; it’s also about sacrifice, friendship, unconditional love, and not forgetting our roots.
I loved seeing Hazel, this strong willed young girl, find a family that embraced her and gave her the love she deserved; and her friendship with Ian started on the wrong foot but developed into something beautiful, until she became his muse and his forever.
Their journey was a very bumpy one, especially with her stepdad being a drug dealer and her mom an addict, but Big Paw and Grams were there to fiercely protect their loved ones.

This is by far one of my top favourite reads of 2020! Nothing more to say. Just one more thing: Go in as blindly as possible. If you know other books by this author, you know what to expect. Heartbreak par excellence!
I have been putting this one off because Brittainy Cherry has a habit of destroying me with her books; granted, she does always put me back together again by the end but there is always so much pain and tragedy that I have to build up my defenses before I can start. I was hooked on Hazel from the beginning, her character drew me in with her strength and will to not only survive but to succeed. It took me a long time to warm up to Ian, he was what I picture when I think of rockstar romance… pretty much a man whore who thinks he is gods gift and I loved watching him change as he spent more time with Hazel. Since I was expecting some major heartache coming my way, I was shocked to find that I survived unscathed. Hazel and Ian’s love was there the entire time and it never really came into question, there were struggles and doubts but neither of them gave up or cheated which is huge!

Genre: New Adult Romance
Type: Standalone
POV: First Person - Dual
”He stared as if he was trying to uncover my secrets, and I looked at him the same way, as if I were trying to tap into the words Ian often left and never showcased.”
Hazel Stone was living in fear and terror every day, she was bound to remove herself from that life that her mother had brought her in. She knew that having a solid job and fix income will help her make that happen. When the owner of the town farm took pity on her and gave her a job she was bound to not disappoint him.
”There was something so unnerving about realizing your whole life could fit inside two garbage bags.”
Ian Parker had so much hurt in his heart that when he met Hazel he wanted nothing to do with her. However; soon he was forced to work with her on his grandfather’s farm. After he realized how much he missed that connection with a person he decided to opened up. Ian had talent and soon him and his band would make it big.
“The hard shell that she wore on the daily was to protect her from getting hurt, and in that split second, I saw her truths slip out through her eyes.”
I absolutely enjoyed the first half of this story, it was different, and it felt fresh. However; after half of the book the story just felt like any other story. It didn’t have the feels and depth that I normally except while reading this author’s books. I still liked the story overall but it wasn’t my favorite, it kind of left me unsatisfied.
Hazel was strong character and always stayed true to herself which made me loved her. The connection between her and Ian was on point, I loved how they relationship developed and so many funny moments with these two had me cracking up so hard.
The Wreckage of Us is a story of family and love. Readers looking for their next romance will find this book appealing.
The wreckage of us
I love Brittainy Cherry's books. I've been a fan for a long time. She has a way of pulling you into the story and making you feel all of the emotions while reading. And The Wreckage of Us was no different.
Ian and Hazel have a enemies to lovers romance. Ian is horrible to Hazel at the start because of her family connections. But when he gets to know her feelings start to develop.
It took me a while to connect with Ian and Hazels relationship. He was so horrible to her at the start. But he realised that her family connections didn't define her as a person.
They form this bond as friends first. Then feelings start to develop between them. They start to create this magical music together. And Hazel gives Ian his inspiration back that he's been missing.
I cant wait for more books from this author. She always has a way of making me love her characters!
I love this author's book so much so was so happy to get a copy of this. I read it in one sitting as I feel in love with the book instantly. This is definitely up there with my fav books of hers.
This book has everything I loved. There's was tons of angst which everyone knows I love and it was also incredible emotional at times. The emotion came from hard you us in the story and at times was hard to read. The story was a slow burn one which is why there so much angst. The author almost it really raw too.
The story was written in a duel POV which I think really suited these characters. This way you get to really no the characters inside out but it also made you understand the both characters in depth which you wouldn't get if witnessing written that way.
Loved this story
I am always so excited when Brittainy has a new book release because she has the ability to make you become fully invested in the story within the first few sentences. The Wreckage of Is is no different. Beautiful words, sweet chemistry and such an enjoyable day of reading.
This book left me absolutely gobsmacked!! Brittany’s writing was flawless… the complexity, the feels, the emotions went straight to my tender heart. And Boy does Hazel and Ian ever leave a lasting imprint on it. I mean for days after I finished this book it was all that I could think of. I was unable to put Ian and Hazel’s story behind
me!! You have to admit that it’s not hard to love a book when it reaches out and grab you that way.
As the story starts Hazel lives with her mom and stepdad, who also happens to be a drug dealer. He’s really mean to her and is always threatening to kick her out of the home she lives with the in. After coming of age and after many threats from her stepdad he follows through on his word. The sad part of it is that her mom is just too weak to stand up to him due to being seduced and addicted by the drugs he supplies her with. Broke, in need of a job and a place to live she does the only thing she can think to do.
She ends up at the farm that Ian’s grandfather, Big Pa, owns and bargains with his grandpa for a job. Yet in spite of being a girl and discouraging her that the job is hard work for a guy he ends up hiring her to work at the farm. Since she has no place to live, she finds a dilapidated shed on the property that works for her. Now with a job
and a place to sleep she is set to begin working. What she didn’t know was that she would have to work for Ian. And you know exactly how this will go too!
Resolved that she would not last very long working on the farm, Ian gave Hazel all the hardest jobs. Little did he realize just how determined that she was to keep her job at the farm. Hazel would work even harder than the rest of the crew. Never ending her workday until she had completed all of her tasks. To Ian’s surprise Hazel would always complete her work. Whether it was cleaning out the pig pens or the barn her work was always impeccably done, and it didn’t take long for him to realize this either. It was really sweet how he would pitch in and help her with her work. This is where they began to learn about each other playing a “confession” game. It was also the beginning of a real friendship between them. Upon finding out that Hazel is living in the abandoned
shed Ian does little repairs to the place making it more livable for her.
But it’s when Ian is finally able to talk Hazel into moving into his warm house with him that things really begin to change for them. Ian begins to understand the hardships she has grown up with, but he also becomes a friend and lover to Hazel too. When his band Wreckage is struggling to make it big, it’s Hazel that comes to their
rescue. The girl with the words, just when they needed them, and just at the nick of time. The gift of words that will help catapult Wreckage into the spotlight! Not only that but Ian and Hazel become even closer. I love how far these two have come, from archenemy, to tolerating each other, to friends and ultimately to lovers filled with so much passion.
The Wreckage of US is a beautifully written love story with lots of feels and angst. With many unexpected twists and turns. And a total page-turner!!
Definitely one click this one!!
And Brittainy Cherry brings us another stunning story that leaves us wanting more. I am in love with these characters in this story. This author has a way of bringing you into the story and making you feel everything these characters are feeling. It is absolutely beautiful. The prose, the pacing, the complexity of the story and the characters, everything was what you want in a romance story and more. I enjoyed every minute of reading this story and did not want to put it down. I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next.
Once again Brittainy does it. She rips your heart out, pieces it back together and puts it back all shiny and new. Such a good heart breaking beautiful story.
4 stars!
The Wreckage of Us is a standalone contemporary romance from Brittainy C. Cherry. It is all her signature writing style. Strong characters and all the feels. The connection between Ian and Hazel was beautiful. Very much a slow delicious burn! Ian blew me away. This man let me tell you at first I could not stand him! Has a new girl every single night. He was nasty to Hazel and had a huge chip on his shoulder regarding Hazel. He made judgements about her before he even got a change to know her but when he finally sees her in a different light and realizes they have more in common than we could have ever imagined it was a beautiful thing! I adored watching their relationship develop. It was unique and not without its flaws but the romance and chemistry was all there and I adored it.
Ian is a hard working. He lives and works on his grandparents farm. He is also in a band called Wreckage. Just as a relationship between the two has just begun Ian is being given the opportunity for him and his band members to make it big which will take Ian away from Hazel while he is on tour.
Hazel I LOVED! Wow did my heart break for her! She is incredibly resilient and is a fighter. She was mature beyond her years. Her mother has a drug addiction and her abusive step-father is a nasty piece of work and she was kicked out of her home at 18 years old. She doesn’t have any where to go and ends up staying at the farm.
There were some big obstacles to climb and their HEA is not an easy one and well I thought some of it could have been handled differently the plot was strong and I was completely invested in the characters.
So why 4 stars? Almost every book I have read by this author I have been wowed by the characters, by the message, by the romance and while this story was good it wasn’t the caliber of writing I am used to from this author. There were some parts that were predictable and I was left wanting a bit more. Regardless I still loved it. I will forever and always read everything this author puts out. Her writing is that good and although not my favourite this is still an incredible read and I recommend it.
4,.5 stars!
I have to admit that this is the first book that I've read from this author, even though I've had some of her books on my Kindle for years! I received an email from the publisher about this book and I was intrigued by the synopsis and cover, so I decided to give it a read! I'm really happy that I did because I really enjoyed this book! The plot was developed at a nice pace and I found myself enjoying it more as it progressed! There was also a tiny bit of action and suspense in plot, but I wasn't expecting a lot because I knew that the main focus was going to be on the characters and the changes in their lives! The plot also dealt with a lot of emotion and growth for both main characters and they really did grow a lot! I also loved the relationship development between the main characters and there were a few seriously hot scenes as well! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Hazel was the main female character, and in this book my heart completely went out to her because she was treated horribly from the people that were supposed to love her and she felt alone! I also admired Hazel in this book because she worked very hard and she wanted to provide for herself! Hazel also took on a lot of responsibility in this book and this did change a lot for her, but I don't think Hazel regretted a second of it! Ian was the main male character and love interest of Hazel! Ian had goals in this book and he really wanted to achieve them to get out of the town that he grew up in! Ian was a complete ass to Hazel at the beginning of this book and he treated her horribly! He then got to know Hazel and he realised that they were more alike than he initially thought! Ian also got to achieve his goals in this book, but I loved that Hazel was never far from his mind and it was easy to see how much he loved her! I loved that this book was written from both Hazel and Ian's point of views! I wasn't expecting it to be because the synopsis makes it sound like it's only going to be written from the female character's point of view! I'm really happy that it was written from both characters point of views because it helped me connect more with Hazel and Ian and understand how they were both feeling! It allowed for a lot more things to happen in the plot as well, which made sense because Hazel and Ian did go through situations separately and they spent time apart! I can also completely understand why this book is a standalone! Everything in the plot was wrapped up and all the questions raised were answered! The ending was also left at the perfect place and I actually found myself tearing up because of how beautiful it was! I loved it a lot! I now can't wait to check out this author's other books! As I said, I already have some on my Kindle, so I'm definitely going to be checking them out soon and giving them a read! The cover for this book is also seriously hot! It would definitely attract me to the book and make me check out the synopsis if I didn't already know the author's name! The cover model is the perfect Ian as well!
Another incredible book written by Brittainy C Cherry! The Wreckage of Us has quickly become one of my top reads of 2020. Her characters are so real, completely developed and so beautifully broken. The angst and emotional turmoil had me turning pages well into the night. The hardships they faced, the chemistry and love they shared all balanced to make this book memorable and close to my heart. I loved all the secondary characters too, especially Ian's grandparents, Ian's friends and band members. I found myself relating to Hazel, hoping her dreams would come true, her life had been so difficult. I was worried for Ian as he journeyed into the Rock World, everything was going to change!! Ms Cherry captured my soul from page one right to the very last word. A definite must read!
A beautifully emotional enemies to lovers romance with great chemistry, lots of heart and a hot and intense story of love and turmoil, of pain and healing. I loved that this story just flowed so perfectly. It is not a dark read, but don’t mistake that for lack of emotion or tension. This story definitely brought out the emotions in me.
It is evident that Ian and Hazel both have pasts they wish they could get away from. Ian appears to be your typical bad boy, but there is so much more to him. I loved Hazel, she was a strong heroine who just wanted to live a normal life.
These characters are easy to love and attach yourself to. You want them to find happiness. When their journey finally unfolds, you feel immensely satisfied as a reader to have reached their happy ending.
This story is full of emotions and heartbreak from every angle.
Even through it all Hazel is a light in the darkness.
And Ian who starts as a jerk becomes something he never thought he could.
Their story is hard and painful but also beautiful and heartwarming.
Hazel has had a pretty rough life in the past few years but it wasn’t always this way. She lives with her single mother and up until a few years ago things were going okay for them. Sure, they didn’t have a lot but they made the best of what they did have. Until her mother met Charlie and everything changed. Drugs now influence everything in her mother’s life and that includes parenting.
When Hazel finds herself homeless, she ends up sheltering in a shed on the ranch she has recently begun working at. Big Paw and Holly are more than willing to give her the support she has been missing at home and that then extends to a room in the cabin their grandson Ian lives in. Ian is also Hazel’s boss at the ranch. Their first encounter was very eye opening for Hazel…
Ian is pissed to have Hazel not only working on the ranch but in his personal space. She represents everything he hates about his childhood years. He believes she will bring nothing but trouble to his door. He will soon learn though that making assumptions can sometimes lead to making an ass of yourself. It turns out that he was wrong and in fact, Hazel is a pretty amazing girl once he gets to know her.
Ian and his mates have a band called The Wreckage and they have dreams of one day getting the break they have always wanted. When Hazel offers some creative advice things begin to turn a corner for the band. Hazel pretty much becomes Ian’s muse and their friendship develops into something more.
‘You’re kind of my compass. I don’t want to lose myself in this world. You’re my roadmap home.’
When opportunity comes knocking on The Wreckage’s door, Hazel and Ian find themselves having to deal with life apart from each other. Hazel has even more to deal with when she becomes the sole caregiver to her new baby sister. Raising a baby while trying to support Ian in his career feels overwhelming some days and when danger comes knocking on Hazel’s door she realises that a happy ever after is probably an idea she needs to let go of.
This had a very different feel to it than previous books I have read by this author. For me it felt like it was lacking emotion and I was hoping to really feel it - I guess that’s the only way I can describe what it felt like for me.
The Wreckage of us is beautifully written. The main characters are broken and good and real, all at the same time. Hazel comes from a dangerous and painful childhood, yet she still manages to love with her whole heart. Ian has the local playboy rockstar image going for him in spades. But he too has secrets he hides deep within his walls. The friendships are fierce. The story makes you believe there really is forever love.
There are so many descriptions in this book that are beautiful gems, that make you stop, and feel, and savor the moment in your mind’s eye. “ It was the best feeling in the world—summer nights and bonfires.” Can’t you just feel the warmth, smell the air, and see the stars? These gems mark the only times you will want to stop turning the pages of this story, if only for a moment.
If you've been around here for awhile you know that I am a huge Brittainy Cherry fan so I jump at the chance for any and everything she does. I've yet to be disappointed by her books and this is another home run for me.
We have Hazel, who right away you know she has a pretty awful home life. She's 17, her mother is a drug addict, she's basically taking care of her and her mother's husband, Charlie. Charlie is bad news, he's the town drug dealer and he's violent and it's said that he would have violated Hazel if only she was a bit more feminine. One day she gets kicked out and finds herself basically squatting at the ranch owned by Ian Parker's grandparents. She's recently started working there and it is fairly clear her and Ian don't get along. Ian blames Hazel's parents for getting his parents hooked on meth, which caused them to abandon him as a young boy, and now he's forced to train her on the ranch.
Over time though, things start changing and as Ian gets to know Hazel and realizes she isn't the villain that he's imagined her to be, the attraction grows for both of them. In the middle of all of this, Ian is the lead singer of The Wreckage, who are on the verge of really making it big. Can their relationship survive fame amidst their pasts?
I don't know why I thought this was going to be a short book because it comes in around 360ish pages, so I did not give myself enough time to read and that's on me. It very loosely reminded me of the book Drive by Kate Stewart and that is great because that is one of my favorite books. I loved Hazel, even though she makes a really ridiculous decision towards the end and when characters do that kind of thing. I also really liked Ian, and I felt like he wasn't as stubborn as men usually are in romance stories and I really appreciated that.
If I had to pick flaws, I would say the end of Charlie's story was kind of rushed. It was like one second they've got a plan, and then boom it's done and we're moving on. I would have liked to have more of an event for that. Same with Garrett, that felt like it was just kind of dropped? At least I don't remember anything with that, so this could fully be on me. I did love the quieter theme that sometimes your dreams change and its OK.
Overall? I loved this and I always get sad when I know the book is ending because Brittainy Cherry always creates great characters and a story that you become emotionally invested in. I feel like I have a personal connection to the story and that alone is amazing. Definitely a 5 star from me.
A huge thank you to Social Butterfly PR for having me on this tour, I will rave about Brittainy Cherry until I die because her books are always an emotional ride.
