I really love Brittainy Cherry's books to date, but this one unfortunately felt rushed and disjointed to me, even though I enjoyed the story line. The lead characters were childish at times and other times seemed more mature than their reported age.
A woman, barely 18, begs for a job that is usually a man’s job because it pays better, and she wants to be a better person than her mother. She wants a chance at life and knows that hard work pays off. She gets the job and finds herself working for a man who dislikes her just because of who her stepfather is. Of course, sparks fly, attraction happens, and that dislike becomes more than just like.
Ian Parker has a chip on his shoulder. His folks left him to be raised by his grandparents and he has not heard from them since then. When Hazel arrives to work with him, he knows her history and does not want her around just because of that. I adored how tough she was when he pushed her. She digs in, works hard, and somehow wins this tough man over.
Together, Ian and Hazel, worked so good together. They fought, they loved, and they protected each other even when they did not understand what was really happening. Both characters had their history and their secrets, those secrets tried to push them apart and luckily it failed. Their story is wonderful, sweet, tough, and full of love.
I am new to Brittainy Cherry but I cannot wait to read more of her books. I recommend picking up your own copy of The Wreckage of Us and meeting these wonderful characters and their amazing friends and families. The story will tug at your heart, make you blush, and leave you looking for more from Brittainy Cherry.
Life hasn’t always been an easy road for Hazel. Fueled by a determination to escape the hardships of her homelife, Hazel turns to a ranch in her hometown to look for employment. Determination is a driving force when you set your mind to overcoming obstacles, and Hazel wanted nothing more than to earn her place at the ranch.
Nothing could have prepared Hazel for working with Ian Parker. As the grandson of the ranch owner, Ian was determined to prove that Hazel wasn’t cut out for farm work. Working Hazel harder than any other ranch hands became the focus of Ian’s day. Time and time again – Hazel pulled her weight. Nothing seemed to break the gal that certainly didn’t dress for such harsh conditions.
When Hazel found herself homeless, Ian offered the guest bedroom in his home. After all – a ranch can’t run without the workers. In spite of their clashing personalities, Ian knew that things would change after this odd arrangement. Adding to the Ian’s repertoire was a revolving door of house guests that wanted a night with a local musician. As the band that Ian was a member of grew in popularity, so did the feelings that inspired Ian’s song writing. With a little help from an unlikely source – Ian found that Hazel had a heart that was full of love that was waiting to escape.
Soon Ian and Hazel find themselves struggling with the forks in the road of life. Neither could have imagined the choices that were waiting around the bend. Each decision taking Ian and Hazel down paths that seemed like they would never cross again. Where would the road lead for Ian? Only time will tell where the future will lead.
The Wreckage of Us is the latest release from author Brittainy Cherry. It is a unique story line that kept me glued to my reader. Ian and Hazel have both found themselves pushing through life’s hardships. Their friendship was one that left you wanting a happy ending for both characters. Did they find a ‘forever’ that suited them both? You will have to read the book to find out!!
I’m a big fan of Brittainy C. Cherry and am always eager to dive into the next release. Such was the case with The Wreckage of Us, and I did my usual trick of devouring this in no time. Once I started, I could not put it down. It pulled me in deep and kept me turning the pages.
As always, Brittainy C. Cherry gave a story that hooked me throughout and packed an emotional punch. There were a lot of things included in this story, and all came together to leave me desperate to see how the story came together. Although I was hooked throughout, I do feel some of the elements weren’t quite to the usual level of impact that I find with the author, but this wasn’t enough to lessen my enjoyment. I was hooked, I felt so much, and I could not put it down.
Without a doubt, this is another winner from the author.
Brittany Cherry really knows how to kill me with all the emotions. The Wreckage of Us did just that, it wrecked me! At one point I was laughing, and then I was an emotional wreck.
Hazel’s life couldn’t have been any crappier. Regardless of how bad her life was, she somehow managed to make the best out of every bad situation that she found herself in. On her first day of work, she not only has to deal with Ian being a jerk to her, but also being kicked out by her stepdad. She ends up staying in the old shed at the farm and eventually moves in with Ian after his grandfather makes him befriend her.
Things between Ian and Hazel eventually get better and they realize that although they grew up in completely different lifestyles that they both had to deal with some crappy situations. They each had to heal individually in order to be able to move forward with each other. Ian eventually realizes that Hazel isn’t who he initially thought she was. It’s breathtaking to see the growth that these characters go through and witness the love that they share not only for each other but also for all their loved ones.
The Wreckage of Us was another beautifully written book by Brittainy Cherry and I look forward to reading more from her.
I've always loved Brittainy's books and I never want to miss any. So when she's coming out with this one, I couldn't wait to read and enjoy this one. And once I got my hands on it, I couldn't read it fast enough and it was definitely an amazing read! Basically, Brittainy has done it again with this one!
Ian and Hazel's story is not an easy one. They have hard issues to deal with in their own life, they have been through so much. They shouldn't have crossed paths, but they did and slowly they're learning to lean on each other on difficult times. They couldn't be any more opposites, but deep down they know they're much more alike.
Absolutely beautiful! I just loved how perfect they were for each other. I can't wait for more from Brittainy
Wow
The first time I ever picked up a book by Cherry, it changed something inside of me. So what did I do? I picked up another, and another, and another, until the feeling wasn’t temporary, but stayed with me, even after I put the book down.
The Wreckage of Us is a testament to how things change us, shape us, mold us, from the outside in, until we’re somebody that we should have been all along.
That’s what happened to Hazel & Ian. They were shaped by the things they couldn’t control, & it led them to being who they were meant to be. And the whole time that I was on the journey with them was incredible. From beginning to end. From sarcasm to best friends. To the more & less. Until there was only great.
Another beautiful Brittainy book!
What can I say?
I loved it.
It was sweet and funny and farmy and rock stary and a bit heartbreaking and dangerous and sad and hopeless but still full of hope and dreams and music and ugh. I just loved reading it.
Both Ian and Hazel have to fight through some drug-related parental problems to find their happily ever after. But they have each other and music and the grandparents and friends. It was really adorable to see them fight for that happy end. I wanted to throw the kindle out the window a couple of times towards the end when the expected 'danger' / 'fight' / 'misunderstanding' / 'breakup' came along. But they cleared that up pretty fast so it wasn't that bad.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I loved that we got a few epiloguey pages at the end!
I also wouldn't mind seeing this on Netflix one day with all the music and pig pen cleaning. ☺
It wasn't really anything new in the world of young love and rock star romances. BUT it also was, because I really loved the whole small town ranch thing plus the music and the baby sister. It was really a cute love story!
Brittainy Cherry is at it again. Ripping my heart to bits and slowly stitching it back together only to shatter it again. I was invested in The Wreckage of Us from the very start that had me pulling for Hazel.
I loved that girl. Her grit and determination. How she wanted more and worked for it. How she did what was right, even when it was hard. Even when she knew she would be the one to suffer. But what she never counted on was Ian Parker being the bright spot in her life. Oh that Ian. Broody. Cold. Loyal. Lonely. He was free with his body but greedy with his heart. He lived with his hurt and anger and wore it as a badge of arrogance.
But Hazel saw through it. Saw him. Heard all the things he was trying to say but couldn't get out. Somehow, with her patience and kindness and grace, he started to let his wall down and it translated into big things. Things that changed his life. Changed Hazel's life. And not all of them were for the better.
My heart was not prepared for the turn The Wreckage of Us took. Just when I thought they were going to have it all, the past came a calling. I should've known the other shoe was going to drop this is Brittainy Cherry book after all. And can I just say we all need a Big Paw in our lives. Gah! This book is the sweetest, most tender, most full of feels romance. Ian and Hazel's slow burning, enemies-to-lovers romance made me swoon for days.
I don't even know how to not give this woman 5+ stars for her stories. It's an impossibility!
"You've been my light, my muse, my inspiration. Haze...you are every star in the sky. You are my galaxy."
Brittainy C. Cherry’s skills are outstanding. I am powerless when it comes to her stories. Even if I wanted to, I couldn’t not feel everything in her stories. I more than just feel it, I live her stories. She makes a believer out of me every single time. And when I say believer, I mean her stories are you and me and I believe it. She is a natural storyteller with magical word powers, and I am grateful every time I get to be a part of her stories.
The Wreckage of Us is a slow burn, enemies to lovers, small-town standalone romance that I hope against all hope becomes part of a series in the future! It is a journey riddled with angst and hope, heartbreak and heartening, family and friendship, growth and endurance all wrapped up in a huge hug of love! It is a full journey that will capture not just your heart, but also your mind. It will captivate you, thrill you and sometimes even turn you inside out, in the most glorious of ways. There is a lot of story within these pages. This is not just about Hazel and Ian, it’s about everyone around them as well. There are many paths this book takes and every single one is purposeful. Every single one means something to the endgame / storyline. This is an amazing read I highly recommend to all of you!
4.5 Fullest moon stars. Another fantastic read by this author. I really enjoyed this enemies to friends to lovers storyline. A slow burn but full of chemistry. Ian and Hazel’s journey will make you FEEL everything. A definite must read!

Brittainy C. Cherry delivers another hit in The Wreckage of Us. It is raw and real and hits you in the feels with all of the heartfelt emotions. It is both heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. My chest physically ached at times. As you unravel the many layers, there are surprising revelations. This has a great plot with wonderful characters I couldn't get enough of. This isn't an easy love story but it is so very worth the read!
Ian Parker is a high school student, popular, and has the good looks too. He works on his grandparents' farm while practicing with his band in his free time. He has dreams of getting out of the small town they live in and his band hitting the big time. Ian is forced to supervise Hazel as she begins to work on the farm. He hates Hazel Stone. Although he can appreciate that she's a hard worker, he can't see beyond his hate. She is a product of her environment after all, right?
Hazel Stone is no shrinking violet. She has been through some tough and tragic things at a young age but she is strong, focused, determined, sassy, and doesn't take any crap, not even from the surly, sexy Donovan Beckett. She tries to keep her head down and just get through the day unnoticed. She prefers it that way. She has been through Hell and lived to tell the tale. She gets the opportunity to work on Big Paw's ranch (Ian's grandfather's ranch). She isn't going to let Ian Parker ruin her chances of earning some much-needed money. She is determined to prove her worth.
When they are forced to work together, Hazel does everything in her power to prove her worth but it doesn't seem to be enough for Ian. The more time they spend together, the more Ian realizes that there is more than meets the eye with Hazel, and vise versa. Can they come to some kind of truce considering they have to spend so much time together?
This book is full of angst, intrigue, drama, passion, love, pain, and regret. There are also beautiful and funny moments but tragic moments as well. I shed tears on this one a time or two. There were also scary moments that made my heart pound. There is so much more than meets the eye to Ian and Hazel. I was cheering so hard for them! The main characters have great chemistry and I loved the supporting characters as well. Big Paw and Holly were my favorite secondary characters. They add so much to the story. I loved them. If you like contemporary, young adult romances, this is a must-read. It is a standalone with a HEA.
***ARC for an honest review.***

You can never go wrong with Brittainy's book. Each story, every character is different but you can still see Brittainy's style everywhere.
When you start reading you have these characters that are so much more than meets the eye. You suffer and learn with them, you evolve with them. Even the side characters are so interesting... You become part of the family too.
I love how Ian came off as a kind of a jerk at the beginning, but he is such a sweetheart! He was amazing all the way through. Hazel, I love her too. Her strength, her reliance, her generosity... Ian and Hazel were great together despite being so young. They were a well-balanced couple.
Even though the plot deals with some delicate topics, I would have liked to read a bit more in-depth about some things. That was the only thing missing IMO, but nevertheless, this story is one you shouldn't miss reading.
Brittany Cherry is one of my favorite authors and I was so happy when received this ARC. The Wreckage of Us is the story of Ian and Hazel, two people who had a difficult childhood and against the odds, they are amazing people and they fight for a better future.
The most important things in life, are worth fighting for. No matter what fear says.
Hazel needs a job to help her pregnant mother who is married to a drug dealer and she goes to Big Paw for a job. She was hired to work at his ranch and he put his grandson to train her and to give her tasks. She didn’t want to work beside Ian but she was determined to work and to help her mother.
Hazel Stone was my best friend, my darling, my melody, my song.
Ian is a musician and he has a band with his friends and they want to be famous one day. When Ian was a child, he was abandoned by his drug addict’s parents and he was raised by his grandparents Holly and Big Paw. At first, Ian didn’t like a Hazel because of her step-father and he was a little mean with her but slowly he realized that he made a mistake and Hazel is very different than her step-father. They become friends and they began to work together at Ian’s songs. Hazel helped Ian to heal and to become a better musician.
I love you, Haze. From the new moon to the fullest. From now until forever.
Ian and Hazel are two people who found in each other hope, love, understanding, and home. I loved their friendship and romance. They are perfect for each other and they deserve their happy ending. I loved Ian’s grandparents Holly and Big Paw. I recommend The Wreckage of Us to everyone who wants to read a beautiful love story and emotional read.

Ms Cherry is an author I've read before and enjoyed, so I was excited to have a chance to read her work again. The Wreckage of Us reminds me of why I enjoy Ms Cherry's work.
Set in a "nowhere" small town of Eres, Nebraska we meet Hazel and Ian. She is the girl on the cusp of becoming lost to the hardships of life and he is the "golden boy" who appears to have it all together. The journey these two take from hostility, to grudging respect, to friends, and beyond is touching and definitely tugs at the heart strings. There were times when it was hard to remember that these characters are only 18 and 20/21 years old because of the hard knocks life has dealt them both, just in different ways. The author did an excellent job of peeling some of the layers back and lets us see what's going on with each and how they are influencing each other to be better.
Not only are the characters in The Wreckage of Us unique, but the story line is too. There are several twists and turns that made this story "not your typical YA romance." We, as readers, also get a look at the harsh realities of addiction and the ripple effects it can have through families and communities. There are other, happier, surprises along the way too, but those you will have to read to find out about.
This is a well crafted, thought provoking read. The story may be fiction and the characters alive only in our imaginations, but their journeys make us think. How many Hazels are there in the world who need a Big Paw to give them a hand up? How many Ians who need a Hazel to remind them that there is good in the world? And we could all probably use friends like the guys of The Wreckage. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for new releases from Ms Cherry!
The Wreckage of Us, porém, entrega um romance de aquecer o coração com protagonistas apaixonantes. O lançamento do livro é dia 8/9 nos EUA e ainda não temos previsão para o lançamento dele aqui no Brasil.
4-5-stars!
Since the first book I read from Brittainy C. Cherry I have been a huge fan and immediately one-click anything she writes. So as soon as The Wreckage of Us hit my kindle, I dove right in. What an emotional and riveting story. Both Ian and Hazel have been through so much. Hazel is struggling to make something of herself and help her pregnant mother who is married to a drug dealer who is abusive. Ian has a bad history with drugs and sees Hazel as part of that because of her family.
Ian and Hazel did not hit it off at first, but as the story continued, I loved seeing them come together and grow. Their journey was not easy, but it was poignant and moving. There were times I wanted to scream and times I swooned. Brittainy C. Cherry gave us a story that was moving and made us feel and that is why I love this author so much. Such a great stories with amazing characters. I devoured this book and highly recommend it.
Happy reading!
A nother amazing book from Brittainy. If you like small town, rockstar, enemies to lovers, page turners and all the feels, you will fall in love with this, like I did. Hazel is such an inspiration, after everything she has been dealt with her whole life, she’s strong, independent and a very caring young woman. Ian was dealt a crappy hand too but fortunately had Big Paw and Grams, plus his buddies and band mates. They both ended up pretty amazing. Highly recommended
The Wreckage of Us was a slow burn lasting romance that a few ups and downs but left you with a feeling of hope and purpose. Tow people who had more in common than they initially thought, brought together by a terrible circumstance that bonded them in more ways than one.
Hazel has never had the best upbringing but she has always managed to get by for the sake of her mother despite the fact that it should have been the other way around. Now in desperate need of a job to help her mom, Hazel begins working on a farm for the most respected family in Era Nebraska and she has no intention of losing this job despite a certain someone who made it life’s mission to hate her on site.
Ian has never let anything bother him too much in life after being dealt with a serious disappointment from his own parents walking away from his life. All he needs in life is band mates, an occasional girl from time to time, and his loving grandparents. But when he’s told to train the new ranch help, something else boils to the surface of that he hasn’t felt in a long time: anger. With having to be around the dark beauty on a daily basis now, how will Ian navigate the emotions that Hazel has shockingly brought out of him?
I have to say that every time I read a Brittainy Cherry book, I feel at peace in a sense. Her books are always emotional but she makes us fall in love with the build. The slow burn, the poetic words, the falling, everything feels like a warm soothing balm. This was a good new adult romance that showed us the strength and love of the young, the sacrifices at such an early age, and finding an everlasting love. If you still haven’t read a Brittainy C Cherry book yet, then I really don’t know what you’re waiting for.
