thank you for the opportunity to read this book and I really enjoyed it. not what i expected and pleasantly surprised, read few of the authors books already and you wont be disappointed with this one either as strong as other books they have written

Not even sure that is a word but it should be to describe this book.
It kept me anticipating the next page. The next chapter.
I read it in 3 nights. I work full time as a front line worker so in these crazy times this keep me sane and thinking about the next chapter instead of covid 19.
Currently reading another book by this author. So far so good

New, Neighborhood, New Home, New School, New Life......

Sounds like a dream, but will it be everything she hoped it would be?

Janey Markman is happy that her family is moving to Buckingham Crescent, a highly desirable address in a fabulous suburb. She has been under stress lately, having cared for her mother during the final stages of her life. On her deathbed, her Mother shares a secret with her - a very shocking secret.

But now that her husband has been offered a new job, with more pay, things are looking up. It's time for Janey and Isaac (her husband) to re-connect and for them to have a better life. Janey is soon befriended by Tanya a woman on her street and Janey is happy to finally have a friend and acceptance. After enjoying some wine, Janey tells Tanya her secret...oops...but Tanya is her friend, so she does not have anything to worry about, does she?

Then there is her husband and his long hours and strange behavior...is that something to worry about?

This one started a little slow for me but once Janey got settled on Buckingham Crescent, I got settled in with this book and found myself getting enamored with it just as Janey was getting enamored by her new friends. After the slow start, this turned into a fast read for me. This book is entertaining and light. It hits the spot right now providing the perfect escape from everyday life.
I had no idea what was going on and had the wool pulled over my eyes. Another solid book by Slater.

Thank you to K L Slater, Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC. I love K L Slater's novels but I felt this one was not the best I've read.
Janey Markham has a secret and when she reveals it to her new neighbour, Tanya, after moving in to their new home in Buckingham Crescent, Janey realises she has made a big mistake. Tanya seems to be the Queen Bee of the crescent and the little clique of mums she has surrounded herself with, in which Janey feels less than welcome, and becomes scared her shocking secret will be shared.
When Janey witnesses Tanya's daughter arguing with two older men when she should have been at school, and one of the men is found dead after a hit and run, she tells Tanya and says she is going to contact the police. The real Tanya comes to the fore and Janey realises she's deep into something nasty, particularly when her husband begins to behave strangely around the inhabitants of the crescent.
I enjoyed the second half more than the first, which I found rather slow. The ending was not a shock, and felt a little contrived.

I typically love KL Slater books but this one felt like a miss. While it was a fast read, I found the main character to be incredibly naive and unrealistic. On top of that, there was a sub-plot that felt forced and not at all relevant to the overall book. I wish they had left that out and focused on the main plot point. I felt like the ending was rushed and forced to tie it all together. Unfortunately, not my favorite.

Little Whispers was a fast, engaging and exciting read, with a smooth-flowing plot, relatable characters and an ending that kept me guessing till the last page. While the first half built suspense and a knowledge that some mystery is lurking right around the corner, the second half made me turn pages in a mad rush to find out what happens next! No wonder, I flew though the last 50% of the book without any awareness of my surroundings, with a single minded objective to uncover the damned mystery.

Like an expert in her craft, Slater kept dropping hints throughout the story, but in a manner that made it impossible to piece them together and discover the big secret. While the ending did seem a bit rushed, rest of the story flowed naturally and kept me engaged throughout. There are also snippets of an alternate storyline flowing, one which relates to the main storyline towards the end, and provides a great alternative PoV and makes the narrative even more engaging

The characters of the story were largely relatable, especially the protagonist Janey. Unlike some mysteries/thrillers where some of the characters feel unnaturally naive or trusting, Janey's foibles are very human and relatable. She is wary where one should be, but also pushing herself to be confident rather than paranoid, loosen up a bit and make some friends after moving to some place new. Her constant internal battle of carving out a life for herself while coping with her past as well as struggles in her married life made me sympathize with her

Overall, Little Whispers was a highly enjoyable and totally addictive read with a mind-blowing climax. I am certainly looking forward to read more books by the author.

P.S. There are some minor editing errors in some places (eg. some words appearing twice at 90%). Also, a little timeline inconsistency - Janey being 14 when Pat was 20?

This was a great read! It had all the elements needed for a great book. Relatable characters, suspense, and twists and turns. I could not put it down. Janey and her husband and their son have moved to an affluent suburb and Janey finds herself embraced in the “Couture” moms clique. Her husband has a shiney new job with great pay and perks. But things are not what they seem and there is a seedy underside to this new life. You won’t believe how dark the undercurrents of their new neighbours lives run and how close those dark waters run to Janeys own family.

We all know Slater writes brilliant thrillers. Every time I read one of her books I think wow she did it again.
The story starts out giving you some background of the main characters but the plot starts to build. As you progress you are cataloging all these details trying to figure out what is going to happen. Then, bam, the plot twist hits and it’s just brilliant! When you see all of the little details line up and fall into place you realize that Slater can do no wrong!

Definitely a fan of K.L Slater! This book kept me wanting more and also reminded me of desperate house wife's. I enjoyed this one and I think anyone who wants a little drama reading will too.

Super book with a very dark underlying story. I was seduced into the wonderful new life of the main character and bam something came along out of the blue. Was looking forward to reading it every night which is such a wonderful feeling.

Highly recommend this book a bit big little lies mixed with a perfect chilling story. Thanks for sharing

K L Slater is an amazing author and this one doesn’t disappoint either. The twists and turns make you feel like you are on a never ending country road. I recommend starting this one first thing in the morning as you won’t want to put it down once you start

I really enjoyed Little Whispers. We know from the beginning that Janey is burdened with a heavy secret laid on her by her mother on her death bed. Her husband has landed a supposed dream job that will elevate their little family of three. He promises more money and more time at home with her and their young son. They move into a very upscale neighborhood that seems way too good to be true for Janey, but she decides that maybe it's her own past that's causing her unease. She befriends the group of 'cool moms' and has an instant connection with one in particular. Slater offers curveball after curveball in this story. Things never seem to add up no matter how you try to fit the pieces until the big reveal in the end. I felt the big revel was a little forced (3.5 instead of 4 stars) but the rest of the story made up for it. It was a slow burn, but fast paced at the same time. She kept me guessing and I enjoyed it overall.

Slater, and it definitely won't be the last! This domestic thriller has enough twists and turns to give you whiplash! Don't start this novel at night or you will likely be up until dawn.

Little Whispers opens with the mother of the main character, Janey, revealing the family's devastating secret just before she dies. While this reveal may have eased the conscience of Janey's mother, it burdens Janey with the sins of the past. Trying to find her way in the world again after being her mother's caregiver, Janey is excited when her husband Issac announces out of the blue that he has received a job offer which will pay him double his salary, allowing the family to move to an exclusive community.

Janey and Issac move with their young son Rowan to Buckingham Crescent a posh neighborhood where secrets abound and no one is quite who they seem to be. After a bit of a rough start fitting in with the rich moms who congregate at the school gate, Janey is soon ensconced in this world and desperate to fit in for the first time in her life.

While Janey is embracing her new lifestyle, her husband Issac is becoming more withdrawn and it becomes apparent that he is hiding a troubling secret of his own. I was absolutely engrossed in the novel and stayed up most of the night to find out which if any of Janey's new friends could be trusted and what Issac was hiding from her. The book did not disappoint!

The reveals are well worth the wait and Janey is a very relatable character. Who amongst us hasn't wanted to be part of something larger than ourselves, to truly belong and be accepted? The author has a coherent theme throughout and readers are left to ponder why society sometimes judges people for sins that they did not commit.

The book offers some definite surprises and took me down some unexpected roads. I appreciate that the author did not rely on typical stereotypes found in domestic thrillers and I was genuinely pleased by the ending. If you are looking for a pulse pounding addictive book to keep you up all night, look no further than Little Whispers.

Janey had been caretaker for her mother who had recently passed away. On her deathbed, Janey's mother told her a secret that had a profound affect on Janey. Rowan is enrolled in the top private school and Janey feels a chill from the ritzy, cliquish mums as she drops him off at school. Rowan is snubbed at school also but then all of a sudden he is welcomed by the other kids and naive, uncool Janey is welcomed into the clique. What could go wrong with this scenario??? Lots can and does. Isaac begins to act strangely and his new job does not seem to be all that great. This book was a slow starter but then all of a sudden it took off and I really enjoyed it. Janey is in a peculiar state; her mother’s just died and left her with a terribly dark secret. She and her husband Isaac are in debt... things turn around when Isaac gets a new job with a heft salary, requiring them to quickly relocate to a new, upscale area.

They find and move into the new home right away and Janey soon finds the cliquish community is full of lies, snobs and not at all what it seems.

The first 60% of this book moved a bit slowly for me, sort of like an adult version of Mean Girls, and it was similar to the book, Reputation. A bit gossipy and suspicious. The ending picked up quickly, was interesting, yet it all felt rushed.

All in all, it was pretty interesting and the twists that were later revealed were a bit different and surprising.

I have been following K.L. Slaters books since her first one and Little whispers does not disappoint.
After her Mum dying with a terrible family secret and a marriage riddled with debt Janey Markham gets some good news. Her Husband Isaac and has got himself a new job with more money. So, with the extra money with their son Rowan they decide to move Buckingham Crescent. The crescent is one of the poshest streets in West Bridgford where there is a waiting list for anyone to move into the area. The houses are large mansion like. Far cry from where Janey has lived previously. She is looking forward to the move as it is a fresh start for both, which will give them more time with each other.
But when they move in Isaac’s new job takes him away from the family then previously. So, Janey makes friends with a circle of mothers that she met through Rowan’s new school. Introducing her to a new life, that she has never experienced before. She befriends Tanya one of the mothers whose son Dexter is Rowan’s friend. Confiding her inner family’s secrets to her that she will later regret.
This is another gripping psychological thriller from this author. This is a bit slow to get into a first and you keep wondering what the family secret Janey is hiding. There is a lot of different characters and as the story unfolds you find out what part of what is going on, they have played. There is also an amazing twist at the send I did not see coming. 4 stars from me.

K L Slater has become of one my must-read authors whose books go to the top of my to-read list. I adore the way she writes in a conversational way that we can all follow with characters we can grow to love or hate. This is a complex story with various storylines converging in the end to a shocking and unexpected unique finale. Can’t wait for the next one!

ohhh where to start....

a clique of friends, a group you want to be accepted by, this can happen at any stage of your life

and this is that story of a young family just moving up in the world, a new start, a new job, a new house and a new school for their son, so why has nothing changed...why is isaac still out working all the hours when the promise was more time spent with the family...

there are two storylines, one very much in the background that you get hints at and the other is how you try to fit in with your new neighbours and area and how their lives impact in yours so much that you start to take on their characteristic that you found unfriendly at the time...

brilliantly written and couldnt see where it was going until the big reveal at the end and boy was it a biggy...

i am loving this author
