This was a good little fable to add into the world of sea gods as created in Deeplight, but ultimately, it was too short to have much of an impact.
I received a free copy of this story from the publisher in exchange for a fair and honest review.
I've been eyeing Frances Hardinge books for quite a while now. I love the cover art of her newest releases, they always remind me of Russian folk art and have that whimsical feel to them. This short story was the perfect way for me to check if I liked Frances Hardinge's writing style. And let me say, that I loved it!
This short story was eerie and whimsical, basically everything I needed right now.
What a lovely taste of this world and its gods. I would have liked a bit more info about Dolor itself but have to say that maybe it works better with less as in the end it's about the cruelty of humans to each other than gods'.
I absolutely loved Deeplight so having any further background on the Gods enhances what was already sheer brilliance. I hope the author elaborates more on the history and mythology of the Gods as I would love to read more.
Thank you to Pan Macmillan for the digital short story, ‘Dolor’s Legs’ by Frances Hardinge, in exchange for an honest review.
This is a Deeplight story about one of the Gods of the Myraid and has been posted to NetGalley ahead of the publication of the paperback edition of ‘Deeplight’ on 2 April.
It is a very short story though demonstrates how skilled a storyteller Frances Hardinge is. I found myself immediately drawn in. It was pure enchantment.
I can hardly wait to dive into ‘Deeplight’ and explore the Myraid.l
