A very great addition to another great series. Was fantastic seeing more of the Yakuza house husband and his wife’s lovely domestic relationship! The art continues to impress me, and there’s so much comedic timing packed into this volume that you can finish reading in less than an hour!
I am so loving this series! Tatsu is just such a great character, I love how he's thrown himself so fully into his househusband role. He is so good at it too! In this volume, he takes a part-time job to get his wife Miku a present, meets the wife of a yakuza boss at the supermarket where she now works, plays an unusual Santa Claus for a kids' center, and much more. Slice-of-life manga can be hit-or-miss, I know, but this one really hits for me. I do hope in future volumes we'll get more backstory filled in- that has been pretty lacking so far, though I've enjoyed seeing his former colleagues/rivals show up occasionally. I'm super excited about Nippon TV's upcoming live action series! Squee!

I was introduced to this series by my 17 year old daughter. So cute and funny! It's a fresh take on a classic graphic novel.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. As with previous volumes, I loved the continuation of this story. It is so hilarious I couldn’t put it down. The characters are amazing. If you haven’t started this series, I suggest you do so ASAP!
I was not able to read this manga due to technical issues, however looking forward to reading when I find a physical copy.
Again, cute and fun and love this manga series. I could not ever get the file to work on any of my devices, however, so this review is after my library got its copy.
If you missed the first two volumes, The Way of the Househusband from Viz is ridiculous & wholesome gag manga through and through. A question that was posed in several reviews that I read of the first volume was is this a one-trick pony? As in, past the humor and the very simple (but effective) premise is there enough substance for more than one volume? The answer, my friends, is a resounding Y-E-S.
This issue opens to Tatsu in the kitchen and then Miku, his wife coming home to a trashed house, shirtless and in distress—he tells her “The Black Bullet” is in their home. An assassin? A rival gang leader? A foreign mastermind? Some shenanigans reveal that it is....a roach. And that the two never actually get rid of it—that’s the sublime humor that keeps me as a reader of this series. The ability to twist a situation and characters that we’re coming to love that are oblivious and not sensible is a treat. Deadpan humor, who?
A note that I’ve had the first volume in is that I wanted to see more of Miku, his career-minded wife as she’s in and out as a character and also more of these side characters of the neighborhood that help flesh out the world we’re reading. Bit by bit, I’ve been getting that wish fulfilled. Volume three is marked by a special character from his past in an unusual place that adds context to just how weird the underworld has become since he’s stepped down. This issue I fall a little more in love how just how endearing Tacchan is. He’s absolutely EXTRA to the finest degree and it just makes each new chapter I read something to look forward to. When it comes to the happiness of his wife, his dedication to her knows no bounds and the hilarity ensues.
Cooking fans will rejoice as there are more baking and cooking involved in this issue--Kousuke Oono’s striking art that he dramatizes up well throughout the book makes these scenes pop on the pages. There are way too many scenes of Tatsu looking intimidating in places where he doesn’t need to which led to funny moments. Spoiler art: there’s a bunch of doggos in this issue. This issue ends on a fun, heart warningly note that made me think, “If it ain't broke, don’t fix it”. This formula works with this story with Tatsu being the heart of it all. I’m waiting for the next volume eagerly, Boss.
The Way of the Househusband never fails to put a smile on my face. Each chapter is hilarious and ridiculous and I love it. It's silly, cute, light heart and doesn't take itself that seriously.
Each chapter is short self-contained story from the life of Tatsu, "The Immortal Dragon", as he goes about living as a house-husband. I really like there are nods to his old life as a part of the yakuza before he met his wife Miku and how he still sometimes acts like he's part of it in the way that he talks and sees a situation.
I still would like to know some more about his past in the yakuza and how Tatsu and Miku met in depth. It has been in a previous volume (I can't remember which one) but I would love to see how they met, began dating and eventually got married in a longer more cohesive storyline. As much as I enjoy the humorous self-contained stories in each chapter I would like there to be a long story that spanned over more than one chapter.
It was really fun to read and if you enjoyed the last two volumes you'll probably also enjoy this one.
Thanks to Viz and NetGalley for the digital ARC.
So this is probably my favorite volume of "Way of the Househusband" to date. The humor was very open, universal, and accessible without the need to a laundry list worth of translation notes. Each self contained chapter moved swiftly but never felt rushed. I would highly recommend this title.
Thank you so much to Netgalley for providing this e-arc!
I don't know when i'll get to Volume 2 but oh i fuck it i went ahead with the 3rd one. It's just perfection. It just is.
I love the story Kouseki Oono is displaying for us. Having the Yakuza turned husband is a great. The comedy that is hows and his earnest to make his wife happy is very happy. Giving up what he has known his entire life to put her first is heartwarming but also it gives a laugh when you watch him struggle and everyone around him act how he looks and acts. It seems he can never escape his Yakuza life.
This was my favorite volume so far in the series. I really love how sweet that he is with his wife, and we get quite a bit of that in this volume. I also really love that we get to see a bit more of the past of our character also. We get to meet his former boss, and show him how he has changed. It's really sweet and funny how everything is playing out. I continue to enjoy each volume, and I laugh and smile with each story. I was afraid we weren't ever going to get some more story with things, but I am so glad that we are! Can't wait for volume 4!
This is hilarious!! This is the story of a gang leader turned househusband. He takes care of his wife, who is a teacher (I'm pretty sure) and has long days. He's really sweet but intimidating. That creates hilarious conflicts between him and other characters. I really loved this and will totally read again in the future, after reading volumes 1 and 2, which I have not read yet.
Thanks to VIZ Media via NetGalley for the ARC!!
More of the same slice of life, one joke manga. If you liked the first two volumes, you'll like this one.
this manga is hilarious-- the characters and situation are great and seeing all the tropes that are taken for granted in other series being turned on their heads and flipped in this way is genuinely funny.
Seeing all the characters who were in the Yakuza and how they have integrated into regular life is so funny. Would love for this series to continue.
