I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was a well-written romance, which was really interesting and kept my attention from beginning to end. I loved the way the story unfolded and flowed effortlessly, the way it was written from the two main character's points of view and how the back story was filled in as the story progressed. This really was a lovely read.
The characters made this story for me, they were well rounded and really likeable, well most of them. Minnie is great, she is so funny and caring for everyone. However, she has had her run of bad luck, especially at the New Year, when it is her birthday.
Quinn has it all or it seems that way; rich, good looking, privileged but he has his problems and over the years they have left him with scars too. Add to these two a wealth of secondary characters, who I loved, especially Leila, they just make the story as good as it is.
This is one I would definitely recommend. A lovely romance which made me smile, laugh and sigh more than once.

A feel good book that will allow you to escape the realities of real life. The characters were likable and the writing allowed me to speed through this novel.

Minnie birthday has always been jinxed. In her 29 years of existence she’ll never had a good birthday. Her mum always puts it back on Quinn Hamilton. The boy who stole her name.
New Years Eve Minnie gets vomited on, looses her jacket and gets locked in a club bathroom and spends the night in there. She wakes up and a young man lets her out. He’s the last one standing and it’s his party. They share the same birthday, then it clicks he’s the name stealer Quinn Hamilton!
They cross paths and the chemistry starts to blossom. Yet every time they get close something pushes them in the wrong direction or stops them taking it any further.
Minnie luck hasn’t been on her side, he’s been evicted and has to move home and her business isn’t financially viable and it’s time to hang up the pies! Quinn the commitment phobe has troubles opening up due to his mother’s condition. Will they end up together? Where will they be this time next year?
Thank you NetGalley for this advance copy. I binged this story and couldn’t get enough of Quinn and Minnie!

I absolutely adored this book! You cannot beat a good old-fashioned love story, and this is definitely one of those! The two main characters are Minnie and Quinn. They were both born on New Years Day, same year, same hospital and one minute apart. They don’t know each other though and their lives have turned out completely differently. Over the last few years however, there have been times when their paths have crossed without them realising. This is the story of those times, from past to present, told from Minnie and Quinn’s points of view.
This was a truly wonderful read and once started I couldn’t put it down. Minnie was the more likeable character for me. Quinn was deliciously handsome, but it was plain to see that he had a lot of emotional baggage that he has been carrying around over the years, and this sometimes made him come across as not particularly nice. Minnie has the same kind of emotional baggage but deals with it differently, choosing to be hard on herself rather than others. Minnie is a delightful character and cares so much about others, but she has certainly had her fair share of bad luck over the years – with her name being the first! (It did make me proper laugh though every time I read it; I will admit!!) Minnie believed what happened when she was born laid the path for all the bad luck she had, but as the book moves on it’s plainly obvious that there was so much more to it, both for her and Quinn.
The story flowed effortlessly between Minnie and Quinn’s stories, with the ‘past’ stories recounting tales of New Years Eve’s from years gone by. The jumping of time frames was not at all confusing and the chapters were clearly marked as to where we were and with whom! The supporting characters were all likeable, and I particularly loved Minnie’s friendship with Leila. Who could have asked for a better best friend that Leila and just showed the sacrifices that people are willing to make for each other.
The writing was absolutely perfect and I will definitely by looking out for more by this author. I loved how the story didn’t need to rely on sex scenes or bad language to make the book interesting (although, don’t get me wrong I’m not opposed to either!), and it was great to see that there are stories that can focus on good old fashioned values of love, friendship and ‘fairy-tale’ endings. This is definitely a contender for my Book of the Year list, and I would wholeheartedly recommend this! Make sure you pencil out a whole day to read as you won’t want to put it down once started! A heart-warming story of love, life and friendships. I LOVED it!!

"This Time Next Year" is a heartfelt story about learning to love yourself, finding your tribe, and family. Minnie Copper and Quinn Hamilton meet on New Year's Eve which is common enough, but it turns out that is both of their birthdays. To add to the coincidence of the story, both of them were born on the same NYE in the same hospital. Minnie thinks they have nothing in common apart from their birthday, but she soon realizes that everyone has things going on in their lives which challenge them. What I related to most was how many times they almost met! I experienced the same thing with my own husband, so that part is believable.
My only criticism is the name of the lead, female character - Minnie Cooper makes me think of the car, Mini Cooper.
Received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Minnie Cooper was born on New Years Day in 1990 (not the car Mini Cooper min you!)
Quinn was also born on the same exact day. In the same hospital. In fact, he was the first baby born of the year and his mom stole Minnie’s name before Mrs Cooper could name Minnie - ‘Quinn’ .
This was just just the beginning of Minnie’s annual bad luck each New Years Day for the rest of her life.
Minnie and Quinn accidentally meet when Minnie locks herself in a bathroom overnight at a party (cue the bad luck music). She finds Quinn has the so called perfect life she’d always imagined...and can’t stop the irritation she has for her birthday nemesis.
When they keep running into one another after that, is it coincidence or destiny?

Aww in a world that has slightly slipped off its axis right now, this is a lovely feel good book. I love the two main characters and found myself willing for them to just find one another again but the story unfolds well. At times is a little far fetched but over all it is an easy read that is sure to brighten up your day. Many thanks to netgalley for an arc in return for my honest opinion. Will definitely look out for more from this author now.

Where do you want to be this same time next year? That question resurfaces each year from best friends, Minnie and Leila. Peppering that in repeatedly to their friends and loved ones, instead of living in the moment, they are focusing on the future.
Flash back to 1989 where party-goers prepare to ring in the new decade. In a hospital room, pregnant strangers help each other deliver their babies. To bolster Tara's confidence, Connie Cooper tells her new friend about Quinn, the baby name she's dreamed of bestowing her daughter.
When Tara delivers the first New Year's baby, Connie is awarded the cold hard news that Tara walked away with the 50 thousand pound cash prize for the first baby named Quinn Hamilton. .Angered by Tara's betrayal, Connie names her daughter Minnie without realizing that moniker 'Mini' Cooper would create torment for her daughter.
Vowing that she was wronged, Connie passed down that resentment to Minnie while constantly degrading her that she's unlucky. Growing up, Minnie is teased due to her name and feels the sting of her mother's bitterness. Unknowingly Quinn and Minnie's stories overlap throughout the years but Minnie never realized she was in the company of her nemesis.
Flash forward to present day and a locked door, disappearing boyfriend and New Year's Eve party unleashes a chain of events that reunites Quinn and Minnie. Will their lives continue to parallel or will the Sliding Doors existence merge into a welcomed meeting?
Thank you to #NetGalley and the publisher for the early copy of #ThisTimeNextYear in exchange for an honest review.. As the years went by, I loved watching Minnie grow a backbone. Forming new resolutions I cheered for her when she proclaimed "I finally feel like I've been giving the keys to my own car and I just want to drive." Will she take the easy road or proudly charge ahead despite potholes or wrong turns?

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for the ARC.
This was such a delightful book!
Minnie and Quinn were born minutes apart in the same hospital on New Year's Day. After a few near misses on previous New Year's Eves (and an almost near miss on this one - thank you broken door and dead phone), Minnie and Quinn meet on their 30th birthday. They quickly realize they not only share a birthday, but they share a story, starting from the day they were born!
From their first meeting I felt the chemistry between the two characters and loved the ride we took along the way. Sophie Cousens effortlessly weaves their past near misses in and out throughout the book. While the characters themselves aren't aware of them in the beginning, it gives the reader an enjoyable journey through their star-crossed paths.
This was definitely a slow burn, maybe even a little too slow at times, but I think that made the eventual Happily Ever After even better because the main characters were able to work on themselves and grow on their own before ultimately coming together as a better couple. Because of the pacing, we really get to see the relationships Minnie and Quinn shared with others and how they helped each of them recognize their triumphs and mistakes to eventually become stronger people.

What a cute book!! Minnie and Quinn share a birthday - unlucky for her as she's always felt she was cursed because her name was stolen (by Quinns mama) and she always thought that the other Quinn must have lived a blessed life - but did he?? A chance meeting - many many years in the making - finally puts these two in one another's orbit - AGAIN. I loved seeing all of the near misses that they've had over the years. I loved the character of Minnie - but seriously wanted to bop Quinn in the head a half a dozen time!! I really enjoyed Minnie's tribe and how they were always up for anything and always had her back. As I'm a sucker for a happy ending - this story left me completely fulfilled <3

I loved this book! I heard so much good word on it and I was not disappointed. It's cute and funny and sexy. I love that it does bring to light the struggles people can have in terms of mental health-- not just the person dealing with the health issues, but also those around them. I loved that and it's an important thing to realize the emotional toll it can take on people. Great book.

What if the person you were always meant to be with has been there all the time and you just didn’t know it...
Minnie and Quinn are born on the same day, in the same hospital just a minute a part. For the next 30 years they cross paths but never know it ... they meet properly on their 30th birthday and from then on they have a will they won’t vibe going on.
I loved this book and would love to read a sequel set 5 or 10 years time... And it would make a great feel good romcom film. I would have loved to see how they realised that they were always meant to be together And that they were in contact in the past even though they didn’t know. The story is very cleverly written and has some really likeable characters.

Really enjoyable “different“ romance. Easy to read story about 2 people born on the same day in the same hospital.. Takes place in London with people from a wealth of different backgrounds and their coping mechanisms of their situations. A good read

This was a sweet read and while I enjoyed Minnie and Quinn and their complicated path to their HEA I didn’t feel connected to their story. I loved the blurb and the story followed it but I just wanted more. I liked the banter and the backstory with the mums was a great twist. I will definitely give this author another try.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for this ARC.
This isn’t the usual type of book I like to read and I thought the premise looked interesting. I really, REALLY enjoyed reading this book. It had such likeable, believable characters who had their own issues and fears. There were times I was laughing out loud when reading, I thought the book was sad, funny, poignant, endearing and it pulled at my emotions. I was rooting for Minnie and Quinn throughout. This is a very well written book that deals with family relationships, friendships, love and loyalty. This would probably be good as a holiday, feel good read, a bit of escapism .... and one I thoroughly loved reading. Would recommend this as a fun, light hearted read.

I'd like to thank the publishers via NetGalley for this free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book from start to finish! I was cheering for Minnie the whole time, always hoping that she'd get the break that she deserved. I found the characters so lovable and real, I could relate with so much of what was going on in the book. The writing is wonderful too, it really was emotional in places. So much in fact that I even cried a few times, and it's been a while since a book has been able to do that do me. I can't wait to read more by this author!

Thank you Netgalley and the publishers for the advanced copy of this book.
Minnie and Quinn were both born on New Years Eve/Day one minute apart at the same hospital, although they never properly meet until 30 years later at Quinn's 30th birthday party. As the story unfolds, we learn that both characters have had small encounters with one another before and continue to do so after the party which very much reminds me of 'sliding doors'. I was immediately invested in the 'will they, won't they' aspect that so many romantic books have and particularly enjoyed the character development of both Minnie and Quinn.
Although this is a romantic book, it isn't your typical love story. It also has strong themes on family, friendship and on loving yourself.

Minnie Cooper is cursed with bad luck on New Year's, which also happens to be her birthday. Each year a series of terrible events inevitably happen to Minnie. This year is no different; New Year's Eve is going horribly wrong when she accidentally meets Quinn Hamilton, the man who shares her birthday and stole her name. Hopping between years and in alternating perspectives, Quinn and Minnie keep nearly meeting until they finally do. Minnie and Quinn help one another to discover that luck can change.

This was a surprisingly good book. It was a light, enjoyable, funny and sometimes a sad read. I found myself really rooting for Minnie and Quinn. I loved Minnies character. Her friendship with Leila. Her mom and dad. I loved her dads obsession with clocks. Minnies friendship with her co-workers was sweet. I found myself giggling and I cried in a few spots too. Highly recommend this one😀 just a really nice feel good book!

This was a super quick read for me!
I enjoyed it very much but felt several scenes lacked something to keep me into it.
I am excited to read other titles from Sophie, she is a great writer.
