Unfortunately I was unable to read this at the time and now going back to reading the blurb it no longer interests me and I will no longer be reviewing this book. Thank you for the opportunity to read this book.
The Wish List by Sophia Money-Coutts is the story of fun and flirty rom-com about a woman who makes a list of wishes for her love life.
The book is a perfect escape for fans of Sophie Kinsella, Helen Fielding, and Marian Keyes
Great rom-com read - love this author. 4 stars definitely - quick read and ideal for holidays. If it’s sitting in your TBR list, get it higher up that list.
I was a little disappointed by this one - I usually thoroughly enjoy Sophia’s humour and characterisation but this one fell flat for me I’m afraid. I didn’t find myself cackling at witty lines and I found Florence to be quite odd and not in a way I found charming or enjoyable.
That said, the story romps along nicely (if predictably) and it’s a pleasant way to spend an hour or so but this author has written far better stories.
I've read other books by Sophia Money-Coutts and always enjoyed them- this was no different.
I enjoyed the bookshop setting (of course!) and her family trying to set her up. I was initially a bit wary of a love coach but I just went with it for ~romance reasons~ and had a fun time! I liked the family dynamic too with stepsisters who were not made into a parody.
A light hearted read, overlong and slightly unrealistic. I disliked the shallow characters and the story and denouement was rushed.
3.5 stars
A spin on a Cinderella story. This was light-hearted and was very easy to see where it was going from early on but I enjoyed it. Bonus points for Florence working in a bookshop.
The Wish List by Sophia Money-Coutts
Florence Fairfax who is thirty two and is happy working in a small Chelsea book shop and spending her evenings with her cat Marmalade. Until her stepmother decides she should have a boyfriend and arranges to send her to a love coach. Then her life as she knows it starts to change.
This is a well written book about fabulous characters and they all interlink in Florence’s life and the journey she is taking .
You will laugh and cry at situations that Florence finds herself in and shout at how poorly she seems to be treated by some and the injustice of it. It also seems her confidence grows in unexpected ways and the relationship she has with all the people in her life .
A romcom at its best.
Lovely story which could touch the hearts of all who read it.
How often to do not realise that everything you need is right here?
Loved that it was set in a bookshop.
Really nice relaxing read, great for the summer holidays.

Florence Fairfax works in her a book shop and lives with her sisters and cat Marmalade. She’s single and her family wants her to find a partner. Her step-mother pays for her to visit a love guru, Gwendolyn Glossop, who advisers her to make a wish list of all the requirements she’s looking for in man. Then Rory enters the shop and fills out a lot of her criteria but is he Mr Right?
Having read one of Sophia’s previous books, I was looking forward to reading another book by Sophia. This is an easy light hearted book, with a great cast of characters and set in a bookshop what could be better. It had the right amount of humour and drama, it was romantic but not too cheesy. This book had me laughing and crying throughout. Let’s just say ‘Cowabunga’ and I cannot help but laugh, I’m sure if/whenever I hear this word it’s going to make me think of this book.
This book just wasn’t for me. It was well written but I found the characters too difficult to relate to in order to really enjoy the book. It was really well written, I just didn’t relate to any character. Thanks to the publisher and netgalley for an egalley.
A new author for me and will definitely be reading more by Sophia Money-Coutts. Such a lovely book to snuggle up with. Such a lovely fun light-hearted read!
Found the main character irritating and a tad too quirky to be likable, and the pace of the book was also very slow and it felt like a slog through. The writing was good, funny even at times, but it just didn't flow, like I couldn't get in and start reading and then when I next blink, 10% of the book was gone (it was more like 2% this time all while I wondered, That's it???) Sadly, could not get into this one
1.5 stars
I disliked this book. A lot.
From the synopsis, I thought this was going to be a cute romance between a girl who works at a bookshop and a guy who is the perfect match to 'the wish list' that she wrote at the beginning of the book. But that is not what this book is at all.
From the beginning, I straight away disliked Florence. The moment when she said that she thought men using an umbrella because it was not 'manly' was the moment I knew I hated her. The only time I remotely felt something other than hate towards her was when her cat died. Then I disliked her sisters, who gave Florence so much terrible advice and were just as judgemental as Florence. Then I met Rory, who is by far one of the most irritating characters I have ever read in my life. The whole shouting 'cowabanga' thing when he orgasmed (was that supposed to be something I found funny? Because I really didn't) gave me second hand embarrassment, and then him cheating on her? I guessed that would happen but still, that makes him a terrible character. Basically, Rory was just awful, but so was everyone else in this book.
The beginning of this book was so slow and it took so long for the pace to pick up but it did eventually so that was one positive aspect about it because at least it felt like I was finishing it faster when I was skim reading it. The only reason I am giving this book 1.5 stars is because of Zach. He was the only tolerable character and he deserved better than to have to deal with these awful people.
Also there was no chemistry between Florence and Zach. There was more chemistry between Florence and Rory (probably because they were both awful people), but the chemistry between Florence and the guy she ends up with at the end was basically none excitant. She spends the first 60/70% of the book judging Zach because he has tattoos and because he works temporarily for his uncle at the book shop, and then all of a sudden, she has a crush on him and is thinking about him whilst having sex with Rory?? That does not make any sense to me.
Basically, I hated this book. A lot. I would not recommend this book to anyone but if you want to read it, go ahead but expect a book about a lot of horrible characters. I now want to erase this book from my memory because I never want to have to think about it again.
The cover of this book is so pretty and deserves a lot better than the terrible story inside it.
Thank you to HQ for providing me with an advance copy of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Very enjoyable stor4y with lots of humour. Just what you need when in lockdown. Great characters and a believable storyline
I adore Sophia’s writing style, and stories but this one just didn’t grab me as much as her previous work. Great premise, and definitely a good read. I just found that I struggled to connect with the characters.
A love coach advises Florence to write a wish list of what she wants in a man and then universe will deliver. The she meets Rory, who seems perfect, but does have some annoying habits. She is happy in her work at a bookshop and wants to save it from closing, which brings Zach in to her life. He doesn't meet anything on his list, but is he the man perfect for her?
The wish list is a laugh out loud , fun and light read , perfect for the lazy sunday afternoon.
The main character is a librarian that has to make a wish list for how the perfect man would look like and , surprise! She actually finds someone very similar but is he really The One?
There's a big mixed cast of characters here and each one adds something good to the overall story, from her half sisters to her step mother and let's not forget Marmelade, her cat.
If you are looking for a light, fun and fast romantic story, this one is definitely for you.
