Like other books in this series, it is a fun little introduction to inspiring people. Definitely a great way to introduce kids to biographies and a nice read for adults too. I would recommend all the books in this series.

I love reading these books and collecting them for my children, so I always purchase a physical copy. This collection is so special, and plays a vital role in educating children (and adults!) about important and significant people in our world's history.

Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring were my introduction to contemporary art. I love that Sanchez Vergara has created this colorful tome to introduce younger readers to this visionary artist.

I honestly had no idea who Jean-Michel Basquiat was until reading this book - I love learning things from kids books, because they present information in such straightforward and concise ways.

I have enjoyed a number of books in the ‘My First Little People, Big Dreams’. This book is no exception, with an inspirational biography of Basquiat paired with engaging illustrations.

Not the book I expected. I live in the U.K. and I’m ignorant of much of the culture and history of art, this was someone whose name I did not know.
What is striking is Jean-Michel’s upbringing and the barriers this may place on others reaching their potential, did not hold him back.
Here we must identify not just circumstance or fate but the real difference a loving support family where both parents were able to spend time with their son. He was encouraged to draw and loved to listen to music with his Dad.
He was even forced to spend time in hospital as a young child. His long days of boredom were offset by his mother knowing him so well and feeding his love of drawing by giving him a book on anatomy to develop his expertise to depict the human form.
Life isn’t always sweet and his parents separated and this created division and Ill feeling, but his nurtured talent was there and he found his way to like minded people, and self-expression through street art and graffiti.

Sometimes the brightest stars burn out the fastest.

This incredible young artist and gifted young man died young but his influence lives on.

Now due to getting the book unintentionally I have had my life enriched by his story.
Simply expanded in words and illustration the hallmarks of this wonderful series of books for children. - Young minds may find their own motivation to be the best but before even this I hope parents and teachers, carers and guardians will see what a difference they can have. Making little people, realise their potential by building confidence and sharing their dreams.

I like the Little People, Big Dreams series, because I've found them to be a gentle introduction for younger children. The illustrations are great, and the story and text are very approachable for young audiences. I also like how all the books have a short biography section in the back.

An interesting addition to the Little People, Big Dreams series. The books about artists are amongst my favorites in this series, as I love the thought of littles learning about art early, especially art that isn't perfectly pretty (although there's room for that too!). I learned a lot about Basquiat reading this, even though the text is kept simple for young readers, so I'm guessing kids will learn a lot too. The illustrations were fun, and represented the spirit of the subject well.

This little biography of Jean-Michel Basquiat was really cute! I didn't know anything about him going into this biography. He was a really interesting person and I want to look up more about his art. I can't wait to see what's next in this series!

This is such a remarkable series. I already purchased some of the volumes for my library.
And I am sure going to buy more.
With this books you got that chance to get to communicate even with small children about some real and special people.

And in times likes these it is so important to teach our kids that there have been people, with ideas and dreams who worked hard and get the job done, no matter what.

I really, really love those books and I love working with them and bring some kids to dream of what they can accomplish if the only try.

So thank you for letting me read those.

'Jean-Michel Basquiat' by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara with illustrations by Luciano Lozano is an picture book about the famous artist.

Young Jean-Michel loved to draw art from a young age, and loved to visit museums with his mother. An unfortunate car accident when he was young brought him a useful present: an anatomy book. When he got older, he became famous for street art, became friends with Andy Warhol, and found his way into galleries and museums.

This series is great and finds interesting ways to tell true stories to young readers. The art in this volume ranks as some of my favorite in the series. As always, there is a timeline at the end of the book with photos of the subject.

I received a review copy of this ebook from The Quarto Group - Frances Lincoln Children's Books, and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this ebook.

Another great addition to the Little People Big Dreams series, this time featuring a figure I was unfamiliar with.

This time featuring the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, the concise biography chronicles some of the challenges he faced in his youth and his rise to friendship and collaboration with Andy Warhol.

This is another great book that could be used to teach children that they can be anything they want to be if they put their mind to it and would be a great addition to any primary school library.

I received an eARC of this book from the publishers via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I just loved the artwork in this new addition to Little People, Big Dreams series. Original and very fitting for the biography of Jean-Michel Basquiat.
The story is inspiring young readers be unique and true to themselves. It also shows the power of art raise serious social and political questions.

My thanks to Quarto Group - Francis Lincoln Children’s Books for a temporary digital edition via NetGalley of ‘Jean-Michel Basquiat’, written by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara and illustrated by Luciano Lozano, in exchange for an honest review.

This little book is intended for children aged 4-7 and is part of its publishers acclaimed ‘Little People, BIG DREAMS’ series that introduces young readers to the lives and works of significant people including scientists, writers, artists, political figures and the like via books and educational games.

I requested this to review as I only recently became aware of Jean-Michel Basquiat when I read a recent biography of Andy Warhol. Jean-Michel was an innovative street artist who came to public awareness in New York City during the late 1970s. He then made the transition to gallery artist during the 1980s. Sadly, he died young in 1988, which is mentioned in the timeline at the end though the creators are sensitive to the ages of its readership so no mention of how he died.

As usual, Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara is able to distil the essential elements of her subject’s life into a few lines of text concentrating on the childhood influences. For Jean-Michel receiving a copy of Grey’s Anatomy at the age of seven while recovering from an accident inspired him to focus on human anatomy in his art. While much of his art is Neo-Expressionism and Primitivism, he once quipped: “Believe it or not, I can actually draw.”

He also said that he wanted to make paintings that looked like they had been made by a child. That must have shut up his critics! After I read this little book, I spent some time browsing Jean-Michel Basquiat’s work online and was very impressed. This proves that this series can also be educational for adults, even if intended for children.

I loved Luciano Lozano’s bright, playful illustrations and especially the image of Jean-Michel happily dancing with his friend and collaborator, Andy Warhol.

As always with this series I am happy to recommend it to any parent, teacher, or librarian. Also, they make lovely gifts.

It's really great to see more modern and diverse artists being celebrated in the Little People series. This will be popular with our customers. Great illustrations.

Great book. I love this biographies for children. They are especially useful when teaching about biographies. Students need more biographies on their reading levels.

I am so glad this book series exists. The illustrations are gorgeous and they are such an easy and fun way to get very young children interested in history early on while inspiring them with stories of little people who have changed the world in their own ways.

What a stunning book. Both beautiful illustrations and an interesting story. As part of set it would be lovely to highlight less well known stories of people who have overcome challenges

A great gift for a child. It would be a lovely keep sake for a birthday or similar

My little girl and I love reading the “Little People, Big Dreams” series together, so I was excited to see one on someone that I didn’t know much about. As ever, the artwork was fabulous and the story was just right for my daughter in terms of complexity and pace. However, I didn’t feel like either of us was as engaged as usual, perhaps due to the fact that we didn’t learn as much about him as we learned about other “little people” in the series. Despite being a little scant on details, it did make me go online to find out more about Jean-Michel Basquiat, showing that the series can work for adults as much as children!

My thanks to the author, NetGalley, and Quarto Publishing Group - Frances Lincoln Children’s Books for the arc to review.
