I would like to thank NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this ebook.
I have always been a little envious of people who drew chibis. And now thanks to Mini Chibi Art Class I am going to try my hand at it too! Filled with adorable and kawaii drawings and step by step instructions, this book is perfect for those who want to start out drawing chibis themselves.
I have to say I was so excited when I saw this art book as an option to request because I love everything cute and it's chibi drawing! Mini Chibi Art Class by Yoai is such an adorably cute beginners guide to chibi art and I will be buying my own copy very soon. This art book is very helpful by dividing the drawing tutorials into three sections. Be prepared to learn the art of chibi step by kawaii/cute step.
First thing first, Chibi is Japanese for short or small. The artist Yoai will show you how to draw these adorable doll-like characters that are essentially smaller and cuter versions of a Japanese anime or manga character. They have bigger heads and tiny bodies that make all fans swoon over them. This is where you will learn to draw the chibi signature look such as their facial features, starry and dreamy eyes, the highly sought after cute clothes, tiny bodies that make you wonder how their head doesn't fall off but then you forget because the cuteness overwhelms you haha. Not to mention the other fun stuff, colorful accessories, amazing hair styles, shoes and vibrant backgrounds.
There are 19 tutorials with easy step by step drawing illustrations along with instructions to follow. I really appreciated the encouragement to draw your own chibi characters as base bodies are provided for your own design. They are also blank so you can practice coloring and shading. I especially loved this because with this new tool and resource by your side you will soon be enveloped in your own chibi world with little chibi characters made and drawn by you! Decorate your bullet journal, fill up your sketch book or sketch pad because you don't want to miss this art class!
I have received this digital arc from #Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for this opportunity~!
I really liked this book - I got to learn so much about drawing cute things! This is a brilliant book for anyone wanting to learn a certain style of drawing - in this case, it's referred to as 'chibi', but it's a cute, adorable style of characters.
Loved the instructions, and for someone not as great at art as I am, this book was just what I needed.
The "Mini Chibi Art Class" contains 19 step-by-step tutorials. It also gives you a lot of inspiration for diffferent hairstyles, clothing and more. It provides lots of details about the materials required, along with the basics for sketching a Chibi, clothing, expressions, background and just loads to get you started.
I don’t draw chibi a lot, and the few I’ve drawn so far are, in hindsight, not so great, so I thought a book like this could help me get back to them, correct, and become better at it.
This “Mini Chibi Art Class” involves several step-by-step guides, relying on examples to follow (because “just draw whatever comes to your mind, using this or that base” would be cool, too, but not necessarily when coming out of the blue for training purposes). It also includes information about materials, references for eye styles and expressions, and ideas for inspiration. All in all, things I can definitely use again later, when I want to go back to drawing chibi.
I would recommend getting the paper version rather than the digital one, though—the latter is good as well, but if you’re anything like me, a physical book will work better for art reference and tutorials purposes.
-Recommended for anyone, kids and adults alike, who want to try this cute character style.
I really liked how easy it was to understand and the step-by-step tutorials related to each month of the year really got me hooked. Also, they are often linked to a specific holiday like Valentine’s Day on February, Mother’s and Father’s day for May and June respectively and so forth. This approach made me want to draw them all to have the full calendar!. It has female, male, young and older character examples so that you can learn to create different kinds of chibis. There are less step by steps with beasties, but there's a section for different types of ears, tails and other props so you can create all types of creatures.
I'm one of those people that are seriously lacking in the ability to do art!! While I love EVERYTHING Chibi, I thought this would be impossible to do! Not so, Great step by step tutorials will have you up and going in a short time. It is a fun book as well as an ego booster!!
A perfect guide for new and experienced artists. Chibis are a niche style that are very rarely, if at all, touched upon in more traditional art classes. This book is laid out in a logical, easy to follow manner that genuinely helps improve technique. Not to mention the art style is super cute and is done by a well known online artist.
This drawing masterclass book is just a perfect present for my niece who adores chibis. Everything is clearly explained and if you follow the step by step instructions, you quickly gain basic expertise that allows you to begin create your own chibi characters.
Simply wonderful.
My drawing skill is limited to making stick figures. Anything more than that ends in a disaster, so I didn't know why I picked this book when I started reading it. After finishing it, I have to say that I saw improvement in my drawing skill. The book was very helpful and I feel proud of myself. The book is basically divided into three sections.
The first one is giving the reader tips about the materials and the ways something can be drawn. For example, there is a page dedicated to different eye styles to convert different meanings. I found that useful for people who have some kind of experience with drawing already.
The second section contains the tutorials which was the most helpful to a newbie like me. We get a chibi and there is a step by step guide on how to draw it. By the end of the steps, there is a rough draft of the chibi and the reader has to follow the steps and make one himself.
The final section is used for inspiration on what the reader should make their chibi wear or hold or look like. All of them were kawaii and something I would like to see on a chibi.
I got a digital version, but I believe that the paperback would work better. I enjoyed reading this guide and trying to create a chibi even if my efforts were below the average. I will just have to try harder until I improve!
This book is so darn cute! I love the character designs and the coloring in this art book. The tutorials are fairly easy to follow and include lots of tips. I think with enough practice anyone could become great at making their own chibis with this book! Thank you to the publisher for giving me a review copy of this book.
Absolutely enjoyed this book. It had really easy to understand step by step instructions. I enjoyed it very much and will reference in the future! Great book!
This is a cute beginners guide to Chibi art and I would love to buy my 10 year old a copy. Was really pleased by the idea gallery at the end since it makes the book a tool to continue to use after you have read it and get into drawing your own Chibi characters.
I've heard of anime but Mini Chibi is a new one on me; it's a mini version of Japanese-style anime and is ever so cute with the tiny bodies and large heads.
The book contains 19 step-by-step tutorials plus inspiration for hairstyles, clothing and more. It provides details of the materials required, along with the basics for sketching a Chibi, clothing, expressions, background and well just loads to get you going.
The book is then divided into 12 cuties, 5 beasties alongside the 2 practise Chibi's. The Inspiration Gallery provides ideas for eyes, hairstyles, clothing, props, ears and tails.
For those that perhaps struggle with starting (that's me!), there are 12 blank Chibi's in various poses that could be traced, which then allow you to add your own features, hair, etc. And finally there are 5 images that can be coloured in; again they could be traced if you'd rather not colour in the page.
Overall this is a great book for those interested in drawing these little characters
I received this book from Netgalley in return for a honest review.
Cute how to book to help spice up your bullet journal. This is as expected when learning to draw the adorable chibi characters we love to see in anime and manga. It's is easy to learn, and you'll be drawing chibi characters everywhere.
A fantastic and very thorough guide to drawing Chibi.
This book gives very concise guides on how to draw super cute Chibi characters.
Although not total novices to drawing, myself and my ten year old aren’t the most accurate and talented artists however we both found that by following the instructions and guide pictures we were able to produce some great looking characters.
We both enjoyed the opening section where each Chibi represented a month of the year.
I definitely think this would be a great book for those interested in cartoon or character art and is simple enough to follow for both adults and slightly older children.
I have been debating between 4 and 5 stars with this one. I settled on 4 but it is probably closer to 4.5.
This is a super cute art book. It covers the basics of a chibi character including body, head, hair, clothing, facial features, and props. This is one chapter on cuties and one on beasties. I feel like the only thing keeping this from being 5 stars is some of the characters would have benefit from a few more steps for those who are not familiar with this drawing style. Otherwise, it is a super cute and fun art book.
This is a must have for who loves drawing and doodling.. Chibis are so cute and with the help of this book you can easily learn the basics and practice on how to draw different chibis.
This book is helpful to those who have some experience in art already. I myself enjoy arts but am not very good at it and do not think this is super beginner friendly although the material is super adorable.
I will keep practicing to see if I'll get any better at drawing these cute characters.
Thank you NetGalley for providing me with this arc.
Mini Chibi Art Class is a book all about how to draw Chibi characters. I'm not much of an artist and even with these step by step details on how to draw a whole bunch of different adorable characters, I didn't get very far. But there are a ton of ideas in this book with the characters that already exist and then different outfits and hairstyles so you can make things your own!
I received a free e-copy of this book in order to write this review, I was not otherwise compensated.
