I don’t know about y’all but I just want to read all the rom-coms lately. My heart just needs all the feel good stories.

So this is supposed to be like a modern “When Harry Met Sally”. According to the author she got the idea while watching the movie.
Don’t kill me you guys but I have never watched that movie 🙈 I feel like I should have before I read this!

I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun and easy read. I found myself literally laughing out loud and I love when a book can make people wonder if I’ve gone bonkers. And yes I did pick up some British slang from this book.

This is a modern love story, the author does a fun job of showing us just how awful online dating can be. It’s also very real. And not just insta love.

This book comes out next month! May 13th and you should check it out if you are a fan of rom-coms like me.

Cute romance about two people who start out as rivals in a job interview. When they both end up getting the job and traveling together, they discover there is more to both of them then first they thought. I particularly enjoyed the quirky co-workers who worked with them at Viral Hive. :)

This book was enjoyable - I'm not 100% sure I see the When Harry Met Sally references, but I enjoyed it nonetheless!

This was super cute and, as the blub says, super uplifting—which is exactly the sort of book I needed right now. It's a lovely romance to read when things feel hopeless to spark that feeling that everything will turn out okay.

When I first started this book, I assumed it was going to be a classic romcom - boy meets girl, they fall in love, disaster happens and then they get back together at the end. While this story didn’t follow that typical storyline, it was still an enjoyable read.

Fran is one of those characters that you hate to love. She’s quirky, witty and headstrong, but her insecurities shine through and her constant doubting of herself does bring the tone of the book down a bit - especially in the beginning when she’s interviewing for her job. I didn’t like her first impression of Ollie, and her quick judgement of him - but I guess that’s one of the flaws about her that she overcomes.

Ollie - he says something that can be perceived as slightly misogynistic when they’re beginning to get to know each other, he does somewhat redeem himself towards the end. I love his sarcastic, witty character and his character compliments Fran’s really well.

The one thing I have to say about this book though is that I felt a lack of connection to the main characters. Maybe it was because it was entirely told in Fran’s POV or maybe it was because we barely get a touch of their relationship developing before Ollie sets off. I’m not sure what it is - maybe I’m just used to the small gestures that really show a couple falling in love with each other and I feel like I didn’t see that it this book.

In saying that though, this was a lovely story that I found really intriguing to read and really do look forward to seeing Stephanie Chapman’s later works.

Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

When Fran and Ollie meet at an interview at a job they are competing for, Fran is less than impressed with Ollie, though everyone else finds Ollie very charismatic. Eventually, both Fran and Ollie are hired and, after a few rough starts, they become work spouses.

This book made me laugh out loud and shake my head in frustration at online dating.

I really liked Fran and her job sounds amazing. Fran had wonderful co-workers, good friends, an awesome dad...she just lacked the best judgment when it came to dating.

While I really enjoyed this book, I found it to be a touch too long. And I didn’t totally feel the build up between Fran and Ollie. I wish we’d been able to read more scenes where they built up their respect for one another.

3.75/5.

Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read this heartwarming book in return for my review.

A modern day "when Harry met Sally", our ballsy Fran meets Ollie at a job interview.
Her first impressions are conflicting, she finds him attractive but arrogant.
Sparks fly when they are teamed together, both trying to keep their mutual attraction at bay.

When Fran introduces Ollie to her boyfriend as her friend, Ollie is very much in the belief that men and women can't just be friends, can they?

Newly single Fran is taking on a new column "swipe right....dating in the big smoke", dating men on dating app Tinder and anonymously writing about it. Providing an insight into dating for the millennial, it's full of laughs and raises debates on what is and isn't acceptable behaviour.

I very much enjoyed this book, couldn't put it down, It really was a delight to read.

This was a delightful enemies -to-friends-to-lovers romance. When it starts out with Fran applying for her dream job and finding herself paired up with Ollie who just seems too cool for school. They end up both getting hired in what sounds like a totally fun, hip place to work. Fran is in charge of generating content and Ollie is in charge of crafting the videos that they hope will bring in clips. The sparks are there and they eventually become good friends. The only problem is that they both have partners. And even though their partners totally don’t appreciate how awesome they are, they stick with them.

Everyone, including the reader, knows that they belong together. Unfortunately, it’s going to take them a whole book to figure things out. Isn’t that always the way? Fortunately for us, we can have an entertaining, different sort of read while we follow along.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.

I mean this as a sincere compliment: this book read like one of my favourite slow burn fanfics. After my initial hiccups with Ollie being a dipshit I really really loved how their relationship developed and the ending was so pure!!!!!

Ollie started out as a tool and I’m not a big fan of guys who are jerks and annoying because they can’t express they like someone due to already having a partner or being emotionally stunted.

On the flip, Fran was such an incredible character. She has a wonderful arc of going from self doubting and repeatedly questioning herself to an admirably confident and self assured content creator. I loved the slow arc of change she goes through from break up to Tinder dates to her time spent with Ollie and then finally shrugging of that dire need for romantic validation.

I also thoroughly loved the slow timeline. This takes place over the span of nearly two years (maybe more) so the relationship was incredibly well paced. The timeline truly felt like a clean and sequential development from enemies to friends to lovers. Fran and Ollie’s missed connection moments of just not being ready for the other at the right time really gutted me at times but I didn’t feel impatient about it because there were so many wonderfully heartwarming moments that showed the longevity of their bond.

Ollie really was on the fence for me as a romantic lead. I really only liked him because Fran liked him (which speaks to her character development honestly). He was an annoying little child in the beginning and was unnecessarily territorial despite having a whole ass girl friend, shitty as she was. Like dump the hag and get with Fran or keep your opinions to yourself bro. Fran checks him on that real quick though and Ollie very clearly makes those changes based on her call outs. So there’s that. He made the effort which eventually endeared me to him. He made a dumb fucking decision at a pivotal moment though so he’s on thin ice.

Suze and Carlina were the perfect BFFs to balance out Fran’s dark spots in the narrative, readily available to cheer her up and coach her through rough spots. They felt realistic and strong as supportive friends and I really love reading their parts. Lydia was titled childhood best friend but she was a bit of a tosser yo be QUITE frank. Like I get your husband is your number one but when he sides with a random MAN over your childhood best friend you really need to evaluate if supporting him is the right decision. I also didn’t like how much she meddled. Suze and Carlina on the other hand were there for Fran as she needed them and were tactful about how they imparted their best friend wisdom. Far superior imo but all the same the friendships were really realistic.

I was happy to see that there were family moments involved as well. Fran’s dad features in a couple of parts and it was good to see adults connecting with their parents instead of mentioning them offhand or simply engaging through a phone call.

Overall, a fun read!!

I feel like I went on a journey of self discovery with Fran. In the beginning, she was meek and subservient and catered to Lucas 's needs at a sacrifice of her own. Once she realized that "Fran can" she blossomed into her true self. Blunt and to the point, she surrounded herself with genuine friends and gave herself professionally and personally. She thrived and never disregarded herself again. That way, when Ollie truly came back, she was ready.

3.25/5 stars!

When the heroine goes for a job interview, she encounters the hero and and it was rival-at-first-sight. And when she gets the job and learns that he also works at the same company, the relationship changes. Thus begins the journey of love for the couple.

This is truly an entertaining story with wonderful characters. This is chick lit with a dash of romance, focusing on how the heroine and hero's relationship from friends-to-lovers. I didn't mind the slow-burn romance though I would have liked snippets about the heroine's acknowledgement of her true feelings earlier in the story. For personal preference, I also wanted a better closure at the end. Overall, this is still an enjoyable read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Hera Books for this ARC.

Swipe Right is a twist on an enemies-turn-lovers workplace romance. I enjoyed the fact that it included dating apps and blogs and the trials and tribulations that come with them and what it is like navigating relationships in modern times. Fran and Ollie turn up to the same job interview which launches them on their journey over the course of a year from enemies (perhaps one sided) to colleagues to friends and then more. Fran and Ollie were easy to like and I found myself wanting to knock their heads together to make them realise what was obvious.

I also really enjoyed on a side note that the book placed emphasis on the important of female friendships and the different relationships you can have (childhood friends/work friends/flatmates) and Fran frequently turned to her friends for advice.

I would have liked a '6 months later' on Fran and Ollie’s story to see where they ended up and found myself wanting to know more when I finished the book!

Overall, I really enjoyed this feel good book and I would recommend as an easy read love story.

I really enjoyed this book.
Fran and Ollie has fantastic chemistry from the offset when they meet at a job interview. Their banter with one another, Fran's seeming distaste for Ollie and Ollie's overconfident I know all attitude really set up an interesting dynamic between the pair. I really enjoyed watching these character grow and friendship with a little flirting bloom.
I found Fran's horrible dates online were hilarious however definitely not situations I would have wanted to be in myself, however her blog posts about them were definitely a highlight of this one.
I could not stand Fran's boyfriend and I guess that was the point but there were moments I wanted to drag him out of the pages of the book just to slap him on Fran's behalf.
Overall I thought this was a hilarious yet sweet fast paced rom-com that had me addicted from the first page.It is definitely a book I will reread in the future and hope to get just as much enjoyment out of it then. 5 out of 5 stars for this one from me. I would highly recommend it.

<b> I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. </b>
<b> 4,5 stars </b>

I absolutely adored this book. I loved that this wasn´t "instant-love", this story had more nuance. This is a funny, charming, feel-good read. I disliked some moments that I´m not gonna spoil right now but they weren´t really relevant in the main scheme of things. Most of the story was as close to perfect as I imagined
The main drawback for me was the ending, I wanted a bit more, a little more of happy before the ending. I will definitely add <i> Stephie Chapman </i> to my list of authors I adore.

Over my years as a rom-com junkie, I have come to identify a few elements in books that are surely my Achilles heel. Among the top ranks are the enemies-to-lovers trope, the friends-to-lovers trope, and the dry humor typically found in British novels. And hell, let's throw office romance in there, too - I've definitely developed a spot spot for some good workplace chemistry.

In other words, Swipe Right had the makings of a really pleasant time for me.

Unfortunately, the book seemed to fall short in all the aspects that make those rom-com components so appealing to me in the first place. The main reason for this, I believe, is a heavy reliance on telling, rather than showing. And the end result is that I don't find Fran and Ollie to be compelling or convincing as a couple.

This book takes place over the course of around two years - plenty of time for the intended trajectory of the main couple to move naturally from enemies to best friends to lovers. However, trying to span the entirety of the two years of the relationship means that there is little time to dwell on the details that would have brought the characters to life. It's hard to believe how deeply Fran and Ollie are invested in their friendship when only a three month time-skip is utilized to narrate at the reader that the two have now put their differences and competitive aggression aside and become work spouses. And it's difficult to imagine that the two make a good team when all we really have to base that judgment on is coworkers insisting that the two are a dream team instead of actually experiencing Fran and Ollie working for months on a project. I can't visualize the chemistry that the entire office apparently sees between the couple because I as the reader am barely privy to the interactions between the two at all.

Which brings me to my next issue. Despite there already being so little existing real estate for the couple's relationship to develop, so much of the book is spent on not Fran and Ollie. It takes far too long for the original significant others to be rendered obsolete, and after becoming single, Fran spends the vast majority of the remainder of the book on Tinder dates. And the entire time that the two are dating people that aren't each other, Fran and Ollie are distancing themselves from each other in their struggle to not complicate any relationships. So in the end, the book is mostly spent with the two being reserved with each other. This is probably logical in theory, but as a writing choice, it does very little in the way of convincing the reader of the deep connection between the two.

Another consequence to stretching the book so thin on scene development is that I felt a disconnect with the intensity of a character's emotions. I didn't understand why Fran was so adamant that Ollie was an asshole, why she forgave him for being a supposed asshole, why this particular text exchange was devastating or that other one was so insulting. The book very rarely took me on the emotional journey that underlay characters' decisions, and as a result, many of the characters' actions and reactions were confusing and jarring to me at times.

In concept, there is a lot to this book that could have worked, but it just fell short in execution. The moments of humor were enjoyable much of the time, but not to the extent that the narration would like to convince the reader. The love interest was likable enough overall, though I can't commit to any stronger opinions about him due to lack of character interaction to base that judgment on. The framework of the plot is solid, but the book failed to provide enough depth and development to make it come alive.

My overall impression is that Swipe Right is inoffensive but unremarkable. Perhaps this is a skewed assessment hinging on my personal inability to connect with the characters, and this experience may not be the case for other readers. I hope it is. However, I couldn't help but come out of this feeling unfulfilled - like an unsuccessful session of swiping through Tinder, I came in with higher hopes of making a connection, only to be met with superficial satisfaction. And in the end, it might not have been time wasted, but it definitely left me wanting.

I really enjoyed this book! It has a definite When Harry Met Sally vibe to it and focuses on Fran and Ollie, who initially dislike each other, but then become best friends and “work spouses”, and despite the proddings of all their co workers, maintain that they are just friends. While Ollie continues to date his horrid girlfriend, Fran maximizes her time on Tinder in order to write a column.

This book has THE BEST breakup scene when Fran dumps her douche canoe boyfriend at his work party. It is truly spectacular!! The author does a great job of writing good chemistry between Fran and Ollie and builds great tension that keeps you reading.

My only criticism of the book is that I would have liked more scenes between Fran and Ollie. They jump from enemies to best friends quickly in the books, which we are told, but don’t necessarily see. Fran has plenty of scenes with her other work friend Carlina, and I think the story would have been stronger if some of those had been substituted with more Fran and Ollie scenes.

Overall, a fantastic book that I recommend.

I really enjoyed this book. The relationship between Fran and Ollie was one I absolutely fell in love with as I read this book! As I’m currently in lockdown, I found myself completely immersed in this book and forgot about all the bad news that’s around right now. If you enjoy author Anna Bell’s books, you should love this!

Thanks to NetGalley and Hera Books for the opportunity to read and review this book! I am convinced that all the Love Island I've been marathoning in quarantine has been preparing me for the UK lingo in this book. But I digress.

This romcom features a not-quite-enemies-to-friends-to-lovers scenario that plays out in a millenial, social media workplace. One thing I enjoyed about Fran and Ollie's story was its toned down realness. Sure, I love high drama and tropes and cheesy one-liners like I love rich chocolate cake, but this book delivered a story that's aware of the complex, sticky realities of modern dating. Fran's on-point accounts of Tinder dates gone wrong strike the perfect balance with crude humor (hilarious) and bitter disappointment (soul-crushing). This is no whirlwind romance but progresses, and sometimes regresses, in fits and starts.

I also appreciated the exploration of misogyny women face daily, whether it's throwaway comments from colleagues or lack of equity in dating. These aren't the purview of villains alone but also well-intentioned men we welcome into our lives. In this story, we see women justifying men's behavior or internalizing demeaning comments, and I empathized with Fran's fight to not be weighed down by it all.
