Great start to a very interesting book The Seduction by Joanna Briscoe was. I really enjoyed the sampler I was given.

Disappointed this was on,y a sampler, wish I had the whole book - will have to try to find in a charity shop when they open!

Sampler only. I found this quite slow moving . Perhaps this is because it was only a sampler and most likely reading the full book would be a lot better.

The Seduction by Joanna Briscoe is a very promising multi-generational story about grave misunderstandings, set on Camden Lock, London.
Beth is a happily married, successful artist, living in the house of her dreams.
The story begins with Beth who is lying on a psychologist's couch then quickly moves on to the central character's home that Beth shares with her husband Sol and twelve-year-old daughter Fern. Beth relishes her happy home life but is receiving nuisance calls that appear to be from her estranged mother, Lizzie Penn.
What’s great about it is you immediately start to build a picture of troubled, nervous Beth, and the impulsive and rather fanciful Sol, though he also initially comes across as very thoughtful and caring. In these opening chapters, other characters in this book are being developed and you start to get a feel for their different personalities. The suspense as to where this may be going next is beginning to build, along with a suspicion that secrets are being kept. When Beth notices one of her friends, Aranxto, who also happens to be Fern's godfather, is texting Fern, she is curious.
I am very much looking forward to seeing how the different relationships develop. I have yet to read any of Joanna Briscoe's other novels but I found her easy-to-read writing style very evocative and appealing. I loved reading this excerpt and I am expecting to really enjoy the rest of The Seduction!
Thank You NetGalley and Bloomsbury Publishing for the excerpt of this book to review.

I haven't read a Joanna Briscoe novel before but the sampler for this book is really intriguing. She sets the scene of a frustrated housewife whose claustrophic life, especially the relationship with her daughter, is building up to a mistake. It is description heavy so won't be for everyone but it really does reel you in! What does she get seduced into? You will probably want to keep reading and see how she gets sucked in. It was a little slow burn for my liking but it will definitely be a crowd pleaser.
Thanks to Net Galley for the advance e-book sampler of this title.

Thanks to netgalley i was offered a tease of this book. Thank you!
I loved the cover and never having read this author was excited to be given the opportunity to review.
Unfortunately, unlike the previous reviews i was unable to connect with the story. I found it very disjointed and scatty. I believe this is due to fact i was reading a 'sampler'.
I am still intrigued to discover where the story will go and i did enjoy the tone and style of the author.
I think it only fair to await the full title before I decide if this is a good book or not!

The sampler drew me right in to this twisty turning thriller.Loking forward to reading the whole book.#netgalley#bloomsburybooks

I've only received the sampler that was sent and it is intriguing.
It's quite slow to start and the sampler didn't really draw me in enough. I would have kept reading as I had already started so I suggest a slightly longer sampler next time so the reader gets a better feel for the book and is disappointed when it stops!
It's very difficult to rate it based only on a few chapters but from what I have read I'll give it a three star rating, simply because I didn't find it gripping from the get go and I'm not sure if I'll be inclined to buy the book based on what I've read so far.
Maybe I'll read it once it's released

This sampler certainly drew me in. Although it seems like an ideal family life besides the canal there are hints that all is not as idyllic as it first seems. Briscoe throws in some clashing dissonance moments in to reel you in and keep you intrigued.
Bet is an artist making a living from illustrating children's books but her "true " artistic talent seems elusive. She has a seemingly happy relationship with Sol and a much loved daughter Fern. However there are hints that she has an unresolved relationship with her mother from whom she is estranged but why?
She starts receiving mysterious phone calls "caller unknown".
Sol has persuaded her to see a psychologist but she doesn't want to lay her psyche out for someone to examine.
Being a counsellor as well as a bookseller I am intrigued to find out about her therapy in which it is hinted that all may not go smoothly.
I have read "You" by this author so look forward to reading the rest of this book. The star rating reflects the fact that this is only a sampler.

The sampler given by the publisher of The Seduction is teasingly long enough to make you want to read more. It dangles the characters and family secrets in front of you so you are craving to read the entire novel.

The beginning of this story grips you immediately and is the sign of a good thrilling story to come. Almost immediately something happens that makes you want to read on.
The descriptions are vivid and the characters are believable.
Classic Joanna Briscoe art of gripping the reader with intrigue and mystery.

Thanks Netgalley and the Publisher. I enjoyed this sampler and will definitely read the book when it comes out in June

I very much enjoyed this sampler and it has left me intrigued about the rest of the story. I enjoyed the quality of the prose; it's engaging and easily readable, and the characters who I would like to know more about (especially what most of them seem to be hiding!). I also enjoyed the sense of place, the writing evoked well canal-side London.
I liked the under-current of secrets which springs from the very beginning of the story, intangible but definitely present below the surface. There is clearly much more to the story than superficially appears; I guess all is slowly revealed and I think I'd enjoy peeling back the layers as the story progresses.
Many thanks for the sampler, I look forward to reading the full story.

A tempting teaser. I will most likely buy the book based on what I've read here.
Only three stars because I'm reluctant to rate the book higher based on this short sample.
