A gorgeous coffee table book - filled with elephant facts and, yes, stunning photographs of elephants. Wow!
This is an exquisite book!
The majestic beauty of these incredible creatures is perfectly captured in stunning photography. But this is more than just a photo book; the additional captions provide a fascinating insight into the world of elephants.
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. I've already added this to my birthday list!
Highly recommended!
What a beautiful book! The collection of photographs paired with the captions were just enough for each page. I would love to have copies of this book in my classroom to share with my middle schoolers. It doesn't matter which page you open to, you will learn something amazing.
Loved it!

AUTHOR
Tom Jackson is a leading natural history writer based in the United Kingdom. As an author and contributor he has worked on more than 60 books. A zoology graduate from the University of Bristol, he has also worked as a zookeeper and in safari parks in Zimbabwe.
SYNOPSIS
Tom Jackson is the author of Elephants. He created a bright, bold and resplendently illustrated gallery of the species Elephas Maximus. His work is a snap-shot of the worlds largest land mammal. It is bristling with a huge array of simply beguiling, double and single full page spreads. The photographs are full color, ultrahigh definition of the African and Indian Elephants in their natural habitats. Among the images are pictures of the animals at the various stages of maturation. Bulls, cows, and calfs are depicted alone and in family groups and herds.
The stunning photographs are accompanied by short informative passages relating to the photograph and the elephants. There are some interesting factoids scattered throughout the book in bite sized pieces for your entertainment. You can expect to increase your knowledge of the species and the subspecies; from the African bush Elephants to the Asian pygmy variety. You will learn how the elephants reproduce, feed, hunt, rear their calfs and defend their herds.
CONCLUSION
Elephants, by Tom Jackson is a breath taking collection of the very best nature photography you will see. The images have managed to capture the very soul of the animal. I found it profoundly touching knowing that they face such serious threats from poachers, who hunt them for their ivory.
Jackson managed to infect me with his passion for this subject. His work is thought provoking and challenging at times. He clearly has a great respect for these most majestic of all land animals. He is very concerned about their future. His short annotations compliment completely the 175 vivid images.
Although the concept of the book is simply delivered, the profundity of the contents will continue to fill your dreams long after you have closed the book.
My favorite images in the book were of the calfs. They have to be seen to be believed. They are so touching, as to warm even the coldest heart. They are the very definition of adorable.
SPECIAL MENTION
Amber Books are the monarchs of nature photography publications. Elephants, by Tom Jackson is another stupendous offering from this esteemed publishing house. Quality comes as standard with Amber Books and they always produce a superior product. So it was no surprise to me, having reviewed several of their earlier publications, that Elephants continues their sterling work.
Keep in mind, this book isn't super in-depth when it comes to information about elephants, but there are a lot of interesting tidbits of info in the photo captions- for instance, I did not know elephants can hear with their feet! What this book is mainly is a collection of beautiful photographs of elephants being elephants, doing their elephant thing, and being majestic. Recommended for anyone who loves elephants or wildlife in general.

Based on the description, reviews, and the cover, this book is a very good book. I had trouble downloading it so I plan to buy it or check it out at the library.
If you love elephants, you can't go wrong with this book! It is filled with amazing photographs and fun-filled facts about elephants. This book covers it all.
The word stunning in the title is appropriate, as this is one of the most gorgeous collections of animal photos I have had the pleasure to view. Recommended for everyone.
Who doesn't love elephants? Their majestic size and their peaceful eyes? I would love to be able to hug one (that could be due to my not being able to hug ANYone due to the social distancing rules. I'm a hugger and this is really hurting me. Better than being an unintentional vector of disease, I know, but still.)
But I think I would love to hug a peaceful and not going to stomp on me elephant regardless. They are just so amazing!
Yes, there are a few parts in this book where it has to be mentioned that humans suck and kill other living things for stupid reasons/because they can/because some rich idiot decided that tusks are worth more than live elephants and those who want the money are ok with killing to get said ivory, but it isn't in your face, so you get the truth while also being able to look at gorgeous pictures of elephants, along with interesting facts about them and how to tell the African and Asian elephants apart. (Other than if you are in Asia or Africa).
This book would be good for elephant lovers of all ages I think. I am rather tech deficient, so think the pictures might be better in a real book rather than an eBook, but the eBook format wasn't bad, I just couldn't figure out how to turn the device to see the whole picture in one screen if it was a double page lay-out. More user error than the book I would say.
5, elephants are amazing and I recommend this book to everyone, stars!
My thanks to NetGalley and Amber Books Ltd for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.
Tom Jackson captured the beauty and awe of these gentle giants. Elephants. From beginning to end, stunning illustrations defined this thought-provoking species throughout their natural way of life. Easy-to-read captions filled in all the missing blanks I had about them. This is one species for which I'm proud to share a piece of our planet. This book comes recommended to anyone wishing to learn more about our intelligent neighbor.
Beautiful book, stunning photography. Perfect for elephant lovers, children and artists. The information about species, habitat, food and difficulties they face is perfectly pitched. But the star of the book is the photography. It would make an excellent gift book, and must be owned in print to glean all the benefits. I just want to look at the pictures all day, then draw and paint an elephant in all its glorious detail (texture, colour et etc.). Amazing book.
Elephants are my favorite animal. I loved looking at this book. The pictures are stunning. The information was nice to read, and did not detract from my enjoyment of the photographs.
I adore elephants and this book with its many colour photographs and double page spreads was so wonderful to read. The text is simple and in some instances repetitive which would makes it ideal for younger children through to adults. Lots of interesting facts from the difference between Asian and African elephants, to how they eat and digest their food, to the calves and hierarchy in the herd. I will be buying this book in print form
I’ve recently become obsessed with the elephant webcam at San Diego safari park so was glad to be approved for this book. Not only were the photographs very impressive but the accompanying facts were interesting and broadened my knowledge of these stupendous animals. These small nuggets of information are a fantastic introduction for someone who wants to learn more about one of the world’s biggest land mammals while admiring the most striking and astounding photographs.
The beauty of the magnificent elephant is captured in this book full of gorgeous photography. Sprinkled throughout every few pages are facts about elephants. I loved the close up pictures on the body parts as part of the descroption for learning about each part of an elephant and what it does. The book teaches about both African and Asian elephants, and about the species nomadic lifestyle (did you know an elephant's life is pretty much mostly devoted to searching for food? It makes sense since they are such massive creatures!). My adored everything about this book, but my absolute favorite thing was the last chapter about the precious babies. They are so adorable! I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys learning about wildlife.
Such a beautiful book, every single photo is an amazing piece of art and wonderful photographic skill. I could spend hours looking at these, also full of info bites throughout the book about elephants, I love elephants but I learned something new here. I loved this so much I will be buying a copy so I can have a physical copy to enjoy for years to come. Simply beautiful
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion
I received an advanced reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers.
This is an absolutely beautiful book of photography and information about and of elephants.
Elephants have always been an animal I am fascinated with and love, and this book pays great homage to these amazing animals.
WoW! Here's a book that just took my breath away; Elephants by Tom Jackson was just beautifully illustrated throughout with so much information about this beautiful animal especially as its over 200 pages. So, if you just love elephants this is a book for you.
I loved it and asked for it for my 50th Birthday. Fingers cross I get it.
I highly recommend this wonderful book.
Big Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Amber Books for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Amber Books for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review,
This is a book filled with gorgeous photos of elephants and lots of information about elephants spread out throughout the book in little bite size chunks .
I will be purchasing a copy of this book for my friend who loves elephants
I love elephants. When I am working on my husband's accounting books I will have on the ELE cam on my computer from an elephant sanctuary to give my mind a break. I find watching animal cams from sanctuaries relaxing. This book is along these lines. The photography is STUNNING. Absolutely stunning. There is a mix of photos showing African and Asian elephants. Mature elephants and calves. The photos have blurbs explaining the photos of giving information about elephants but this is not a book of words. This is a book of moving photos that left me again in awe of nature. Their many facts about elephants in this boo such as elephants do not need much sleep, they forage 16 hours a day for food, they drink 45 gallons of water a day, they are not mature for 12 to 15 years, male elephants live alone or with a small group of other young males, elephants are matriarchial, elephant skin is thick but full of nerve endings, elephants are very tactile with each other and touch each other constantly, elephants are very nurturing to their young and each other, elephants live in families. This is a book to be enjoyed with other people, with friends, children, and grandchildren. There is so much talk of climate change and this book brings home if we don't do something these beautiful animals and their habitats are some of the many things we will lose.
