Aside from the fact this book takes place in Montana (which everyone loves), Mary Burton again writes a novel that you can’t put down. Joan left Montana after an arsonists fire and gets pulled back into the trauma again when a local woman dies tragically in another fire. Although she moved away and became a homicide detective in Pennsylvania, she is drawn back to make sure it is not history repeating itself. You will not want to put this book down.

Joan Mason is a Philadelphia detective on suspension. She takes a trip back to Montana and stays with her college room mate Ann. In college their house caught fire and both escaped. The man convicted of the crime, Elijah Waston, maintains his innocence. Elijah gets released from prison and another arson fire is discovered. The arsonist commits murder to cover his tracks. This is one suspense filled novel.

Traveling With T’s Thoughts:

I’ve read a few of Mary Burton’s books and some I’ve enjoyed, some I’ve enjoyed not so much. This one was just ok.

What I Liked:

The cover is def eye-catching.

The friendship between Joan and Ann.

The notes from the arsonist. I liked getting a peek into the mind.

Bottom line: I found myself skim reading at times because this book was a tad bit longer than it should be- a good plot, but it just didn’t completely work for me.

Burn You Twice is the latest offering by Mary Burton and once again she does not disappoint. Her characters come alive on the pages and she writes some of the most evil villains in romantic suspense today. The romance in this book is fraught with misunderstandings and growing pains but the characters eventually get there. I want to read more of these characters and was pleased to find out there will be a second book in the series due out in the spring. The setting is the Montana college town of Missoula and is a great backdrop for the mystery that unfolds and the villain is just truly evil…I thought I knew who it was then I was convinced I was wrong then all was revealed. Mary Burton is once again on top of her game with the mystery in this book. I appreciate being allowed to read an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Another great mystery from Mary Burton. This time it's arson. Ten years ago Joan and Ann were caught in a devastating fire and almost died. Now the man convicted of the crime has been released from prison, and Joan, a detective in Philadelphia, heads back to Montana to confront her past which also includes the man she loved but left after the fire. All the characters are amazing but Elijah is the most intriguing. Great plot, interesting and twisted. I would not be surprised to see more adventures with Joan and I doubt we have seen the last of Elijah. Very enjoyable book and I highly recommend it.

Ten years ago Joan Mason and Ann Bailey nearly died in a fire while they were in college. Elijah Weston was arrested for setting the fire to the house they had lived in during their senior year of college.
Fast forward ten years and Elijah is being released from prison. Joan Mason is now a homicide detective you call when arson is involved. Recently suspended from her job in Philadelphia, Pennsylvanian, Joan is back in
Missoula, Montana staying with Ann. And Elijah has moved into a boardinghouse near the university where it all began.
In Mary Burton's Burn You Twice, fires start popping up everywhere. Is it Elijah or has fire lured someone else with its powerful grip? Mary as usual will ignite a fire in your belly like never before. Can you handle the heat?

I think by now it is no surprise that I love Mary Burton's books and I'm a huge fan of hers. Her stories never fail to deliver the best intrigue, passion, and mystery. Burn You Twice was just as amazing as I was expecting and I was captivated by the very start of this story. I actually guessed pretty early into the book at what would be revealed by the end but I still didn't lose any of the suspense. That's one of the things I love about Ms. Burton's stories, no matter when you guess the reveal or the murderer you will still have that mystery and fun reading experience of trying to figure out if you're theories are correct and if they are there's still a good chance you'll have some surprises along the way.

It was also very easy for me to fall in love with these characters and their lives so I'm really hoping we'll see more of them in the future. Bottom line, this was a brilliant book and one I definitely recommend reading.

Yet another home run for this author. The main characters, Detective Joan Mason and Gideon, fan the flames in their relationship as they race to find out who is the arsonist putting lives in danger. The writing captures you right from the beginning and keeps throwing twists and turns to keep you interested. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book via NetGalley and the author.

Mary Burton never misses. Seriously. I have read all of her books and keep waiting for a stinker. Hasn't happened yet and certainly not with this latest one! Joan and Ann survived an arson fire in Montana. Joan leaves Montana, moves to Philadelphia and becomes a detective. Years later she returns to Montana after hearing that the man convicted of setting the fire is getting out. Long story short, there are more fires, lots of suspense and romance between Joan and Ann's brother, Gideon. I am not a big romantic suspense fan, but love Mary's books. I guess because she focuses more on suspense and the romance is just a nice distraction. Also, I loved Joan and Gideon's characters'. Hopefully this is the start of another series. Keep 'em comin', Mary!

Thank you to NetGalley, Mary Burton and Montlake Romance for this ARC!

This book is incredible. When someone is setting fires around small town Missoula, Joan Mason is determined to figure out what is going on. After the fire that almost took Joan and her best friend's Ann's lives, Joan has been literally and figuratively scarred. She leaves town to find a new path in her hometown of Philadelphia, but she is pulled back to Missoula when her arsonist is released. Joan has no idea what she is getting herself into by going back to her old college town. Can she separate herself from the past and finally move on?

Joan is a terrific detective and she has nerves of steel. I thought all of the characters were so well-developed, and this book was one plot twist after another. As someone who can usually figure out whodunnit, I was perplexed until the very end. I still have a lot of questions and need to know more about these characters! I'm really hoping there is a second book to follow-up because I cannot get enough!

Just when I thought that Mary Burton couldn’t get any better with her suspense thrillers, she proved me wrong by writing this book. It was a total thrill ride from the beginning to the satisfying conclusion! It includes a cast of characters that are a motley crew of suspects for current fires in the college town of Missoula, Montana. Joan Mason has left behind her job as a homicide detective in Philadelphia to return to Missoula when arsonist Elijah Weston is released from prison. Joan is determined to prove that Elijah is still setting fires and should not have been released. Joan also encounters her college sweetheart Gideon Bailey and her former roommate Ann. The interactions between the characters is absolutely electric! The entire book consumed me because the story was mesmerizing, with all kinds of twists and rabbit-hole leads. I enjoyed going along with Joan on her journey to discover the truth. My heart raced when more fires were set and more people were endangered or killed. I just wanted to find out who the fire bug was and why this seemed to be such a necessity for his/her life. Mary Burton is an absolute master of moving a story along quickly with action and descriptions that are as fiery as this book was. I highly recommend BURN YOU TWICE to anyone who loves suspense thrillers and who wants entertainment that will not disappoint or leave you hanging. I was actually sad to see the story end because I want more of Joan and the other inhabitants of the little town of Missoula, a town with a personality of its own. What a thrill ride you are getting on when you pick up this book!

One of the best books by Mary Burton! The story is full of suspense. This one is action packed and full of suspense. The mystery is the main focus with just a dash of a very slow burn romance.
Joan and Ann are survivors of an arsonist. Their past comes back at them when the man convicted is released. Did he do it? I kept asking myself that until the end. Gideon and Joan are grudgingly working together to discover who the new arsonist is while dealing with hurt from their past relationship. Then you have Ann and Elijah. They are both as complex and interesting as Joan and Gideon.
I read this one through in one sitting. I had to know if my guesses were right! I was so completely engaged and invested in the story. I really hope we see more of these characters. I want to know what happens with Ann. I have a feeling there is more to Elijah's story as well. You can't go wrong with a book by this author!

Hold on for a thrilling ride! This book packs a punch and is filled with suspense, action, romance, family, righting wrongs, second chances, and a crazed arsonist. The psychological aspect was intense and there were many twists and turns that held the mystery and suspense throughout the read, along with a surprise ending. I enjoyed the characters and the storyline. A must read for Mary Burton fans!

Well....Mary Burton does it again!! Burn You Twice starts out with a bang and never lets up!! From page one it's an exciting story about one woman's search for the truth about events from 10 years before when the house she was living in was set on fire and she nearly died. After the fire Joan returned to Philadelphia and became a detective specializing in arson investigation. She's on paid suspension when she learns the man convicted of that fire is released and back in Missoula. She returns to talk with him and to try and solve once and for all what happened that night she was nearly killed. She also reconnects with Gideon, her boyfriend from back then, who is now a detective too. Together they try and work out what happened then...and why the fires are starting up again.
The ending is exciting with a surprising bad guy and a couple of loose ends that leave me hoping there will be more to follow.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Burn You Twice by Mary Burton that I read and reviewed.
I am usually a huge fan of Mary Burton’s books but this one just did not hold my attention as much as her other works have. I pretty much figured out who the arsonist was right away and I just did not get into the story once I figured things out because I got bored with the book. Maybe it was because I did not like the characters line I usually do for some reason I really don’t know but this book was just okay for me.
I am giving Burn You Twice three out of five stars.

Knocked this one out of the park. Suspense, thriller, family, fire, mistakes and second chances. I do not know how to do this book justice. It was a one sitting read for me, and oh my word the subtext, the troubled people, both good and bad, the twists the turns and the ending....I did not see that one coming. I hurt for suspended Detective, our troubled Joan, I feel for Gideon and his past, but he needs to step up his game. I am so intrigued with Elijah. The characters were well defined ad relatable. Amy her best friend was a secondary character but she brought a little peace, warmth to the troubled Joan. I am hoping there is a sequel because I want to know what happens now. Where does everyone go from here? Thank you for the arc! I freely volunteer my thoughts and opinions! I loved this books so much I am going to read it a second time and see if I can pick up on some nuances, now that I know the ending.

Joan has demons from her past and he was just released from prison. Since she is on suspension from her job she decides to go back to the nightmare that let her walk away from Gideon. While visiting the one man who still proclaims he is innocent starts getting threats. Is he really innocent or just a smooth talker.
Thank you for the ARC copy Netgalley and Ms Burton.

Arson can be deadly. After 10 years of serving time in a penitentiary, Elijah Weston has returned home to Missoula, Montana, home of where the College Fire was set. Joan Mason immediately leaves Philadelphia and goes back to where she and Ann Bailey had survived the fire during their college years. Fires and death start occurring, and as a homicide detective, Joan and local detective and former boyfriend, Gideon Bailey, set out to find out who is behind it all. There is a lot of action, and I enjoyed learning about the psychological aspect of an arsonist, and gaining the insight of what goes through the mind of one. It is blazing fantastic!
